"Hey Anne, why were you afraid to tell us that you were a comander of an "army?" Emory tried not to sound offensive in any way so he did what he was best at, he said it with no emotion at all.

"That's pretty much it. When we turned thirteen or fourteen, we left. Every so often, an adult might come by and see how the game was. We made strategies and diversions." Emory's question surprised her "I'm not afraid. Some times its... hard to remember some days"

Jon and Mary's faces flashed in front of her. She bit her lip until it almost drew blood to keep from crying. She missed them so much.

Tony could see Anne was distressed. Back home, when Sara was like that, Tony would put an arm around her shoulder. A funny song or story would cheer her up. Tony didn't think he ought to do that here.

"Do you think some of them could work in null'g?" he asked

"A few things would have to change, but yeah, they could work" Anne thought "When's our next free time?" They should get into the gym.

"I appreciate your sharing that, Anne." Why did all the kids cry when they talked about home? Everyone here was plenty smart. If they really wanted to go back that much, instead of getting ready to fight the buggers, they could easily find a way to get iced. The good memories from home are what got you through the hard days at Battle School, not something to be avoided. But Toro wasn't about to make Anne feel any worse, so he ignored her emotion, which she seemed to want. "We're supposed to have free time right after breakfast, if the lights don't go out again; or a certain army doesn't do anything else to do us in."

"Tomorrow? OK then. If Beylion gives the go ahead for my idea, meet in the gym in free time. Do they have an area where there is just mats? And maybe poles?" Maybe she wasn't commander here, or even a toon leader, but Anne could still do this.

"Why? What do we need poles for? Shouldn't we just find a mat?" he asked. Poles couldn't do much when you were fighting buggers.

"Pole fighting can show your agility, strength, and balence. Good things when you're in null-g." Anne grinned "And I feel like hitting something"

Tirath grinned, this is exactly what he wanted. A little bit of training with an army, no friends would go along way for characteristics. He didn't know about the poles though, he prefered something more like a knife of some sort, something quick and painful, not blunt. Though if you can knock someone out in a certain spot with your bare hands, why not do it with a stick?

"I don't know, how about hand-to-hand training. It would improve our reaction speed, our overall speed and improve our chances in battles out side of the battle room."

Finaly, something else he was good at. If anything, other than his aim was good it was his hand-to-hand combat stratagies. He had practiced the higher arts of self-defense when he was around 6 or 7. He became sort of obsessed with it, it was almost the only reason why he could actually live in battle school.

Anne nodded "Both styles will work. We need to see what they have in the gym. I just prefer staffs" Anne thought. If they were going to know each other, they'd need to know where their strength lies, how much endurnce they have, their agility, and balance. They'd need a few different machines, and a big padded floor.

Poles? Tony thought She fights with poles? What did I get my self into? But still, Tony listened. She might be on to something.

Poles. The bull in Michael's head started going nuts. North and South. Rotation. Spinning. Spinning around a flagpole on the playground. Playground. Merry-go-round. Spinning with Manos until they got sick. Sick. Sounds like stick. A stick is like a pole. Stick it to 'em. He'd like to stick it to Tide.

All these thoughts flashed through his mind in less than half a second. Then it occurred to him that he had once heard something about a form of martial arts that uses some kind of stick for fighting and defense, maybe even a type of karate. He would have to look that up as soon as he got a chance.

Any use against the buggers? Images from the vids on the previous invasions filled him mind. Human soldiers splayed open on the decks of human ships, buggers standing nearby. Yeah, physical combat would definitely be needed. And he needed every tool he could learn.

"Yes, Yes, Yes, that would help us stregth wise and agilty. But, I think we should also work on Nullo hand-to-hand combat. Not to hurt the other army of course, but to mabey render the weaponless. Then we would take them out." he put in. He thought that when they were to close to focus a beam on them they could eaisly kick their weapon from them.

Anne thought about that "It's a good idea, but when would we ever get that close?"

"If you snuck up from behind?" Tony asked

"But you could keep the distance and flash them" thinking again, she added "If we do do that, we'd get used to moving in null-g and be able to do more" Anne's mind raced, thinking up new attacks in the battle room.

"Well im still thinking about our future battles with the buggers, you can't dissarm a bugger. However I know a way, that others might know to dissarm the tide members."

It was a trick he could of used when he was four, but thats not needed now. He stood up and walked to the trash can and threw away his tray. He came back sat down and leaned back again, he picked hup his sash and tied it over his eye again, it no longer bothered him.

"'A' way?" Anne joked. She ate the last of her food and threw her tray away too. Tony did the same. When she sat down again, Tirath was covering his eye. She wondered what had happened to it. Living on a university campus, Anne had never seen anything like it. In real life of course. Little kids would come up to her with pictures all the time. She had seen enough not to stare.

Tony was thinking about the same thing. But he'd seen people with the same injuries before. Someone without a leg, an arm, an eye, or a few fingers was not all that uncomon in the London alleys. Espessically with his dad's doings.

Tony was walking home from school. He took the familiar shortcuts through the alleyways. Suddenly he stopped and pressed himself against the walls. He listened to two men fight. It sounded like his father and Eddie. Eddie was one of the crooks in London. Tony only knew he was a sort of loan shark. Someone was thrown against a trash bin, or a dumpster. Tony heard Eddie 'Well, Henry, do you have the money?' 'No, I don't. I'll get it to you next week, I swear! There's a drop-off and...' his dad babbled. Tony smiled, his was running on about a nonexistant drop-off. He did that when ever he was in trouble. 'Shut-up!' Eddie grunted 'You'd better get it in next week. Some of my boys have had their eye on your girl. Sarah, isn't it?' Tony almost jumped out and hit him. How dare he even THINK about touching Sarah!? How dare he?!? When Eddie left, Tony's knuckles were white and his face was flushed with anger. He sprinted to his dad. 'You ok, Pop?' 'Nothing but a wake-up call' he got up and put his arm around Tony 'C'mon, I bet your mother's got us a good bit 'o stew at home'

"To put it simply-he used his hands for an example-you grip the wrist and push up on the vain, it activates a tendant that moves the fingers outward releasing the weapon. That is if you push hard enough." He moved his hand back and forth to release the preassure on it.

"I doubt we will actually be able to use it, but it's still helpfull to know."

Anne had seen a few people do it before, but she had never learned herself. She made a mental note to learn it. Like Tirath said, it could be helpful to know.

Tony hadn't used it either. Few back home could ever get that close. Most kids carried hidden knives all over them. Only the very best could do it. Tony reached over to his arm and touched his scar. It ran from his left shoulder to his elbow. That's what happens when they get close. He thought.

Howard had never tried that before, in fact he never even knew it could be done. But, it did sound like a good idea to him. " Tirath, wouldn't that also inflict pain? Because if it did we could use it against Tide. When they, no if they throw punches at us we could grab their arm and bring the to their knees in pain. That way know bloody mess to clean up, and less of our soldiers in the Infirmry." exclaimed Howard. This was getting very exciting.

Tirath stood up, he thought about howards question.

"I don't know if it inflicts enough pain to bring them to their knees, but doing the same process and pulling their arm behind their back will do the trick."

Another move he could have used before he lost his eye. He walked over to Emory and stood waiting.

Anne and Tony walked over. Tony was wondering about his first battle practice. What toon would he be in? What would it be like?

"It's not that difficult to get your arm out. Unless whoever is doing it is way stronger. Then you're screwed." A thought came and she added "Or if you're on your knees already."

She thought of some of the fights she'd had with her brothers. They weren't really fighting, it was just for fun. Kevin would try to pin her down, but she always seemed to get away. Anne could dodge anything. Chris would wait for her to attack, then knock her off balance. Anne shook her head. She won the last fight. Finally, she'd beaten Chris. She shook her head and brought herself back to battle school.

Beylion walked into the mess feeling very tired. He got his plate of... mush... and went to sit with the other Phoenix soldiers who still remained in the mess. He didn't say anything to anyone and picked at his food. They were having a conversation about staffs or something stupid that would only work in Earthside gravity. He quickly tuned out the conversation.

OOC- We left the table, no one else was talking about it.

Tony saw Beylion walk right past them. Glancing back at the others, he said "I'll meet you in the barracks" he walked down to Beylion.

Anne nodded. She began to walk back to the barracks. "Anyone know what time it is?" she asked as she walked out, into the corridor.

Tony walked to his commander "Uh, sir, some of the other soldiers and I were talking during the meal. We- well really, Anne- came up with an idea. To help us in the battle room, or in case we meet up with Tide again" Beylion didn't really seem interested. Tony began to wonder if he had even heard.

"Hey guys, you wanna get movin or what?" he called out to his newest friends.

“Yeah let’s get out of here, I’m done,” Vanni commented, licking his plate literally, and belching rather charmingly.

Rather disgusted, General replied, “Yes we had better before Vanni starts on the plate next. Guess we should head back to the barracks and change into our suits?”

Then General saw the commander walk in and get some food then sit down at the end of the table.

“I’m full, no plates for me today thanks. So are we off then? Arael here will get to see how good at am in the battle room, we shouldn’t keep him waiting,” Vanni said with a smile pushing away from the table.

“Well one thing is for sure, we should have some time before we go, the commander is just sitting down to eat,” General said with a nod toward the end of the table.

“Damn, your right, guess you are just going to have to wait to see me kick General’s tail then,” Vanni said with a smirk toward General and a playful shove.

General caught himself, so as not to fall off the stool, then stood up and mock punched Vanni in the stomach. Vanni, being quite the showman, double over and slammed into the table, apparently reeling in pain.

“Oh you got me! Everything’s fading fast! Save me Arael, save me!” he said floundering on half on the table.

Finally a chance to see how Arael compared in the battle room.

“Oh you got me! Everything’s fading fast! Save me Arael, save me!” he said floundering on half on the table.

"Oye vey, your quite the one for melodrama aren't you Vanni? Don't worry, I shall avenge your death in the Battle Room with extreme prejudice." He said only half mockingly. What a great day, Arael already had great friends and a practice to look forward to. "I wonder what toon I'll be in. I hope its with you guys. Keep your enemies close you know?" Arael laughed at his rather stupid joke and made for the exit.

When Beylion walked into the mess Howard was just finished eating. But, he decided to walk up to him and start a conversation. Not knowing how to start talking he walked up to him and sat down.
"How's the food? I don't like todays menu, not that we really have a choice. But don't you think the cook is even uglyer today then ever?" he said to his oh so queite commander.

OOC - Haven't had any battles yet. You need a battle or two under your belt to eat in the commander's mess.

Beylion looked at Howie and grunted, then got up and dumped his tray and left the mess for the corridor.

Michael didn't particularly feel like going back to the Barracks just yet. He was looking for answers still, and to his mind, there was only one place to find them. About the time a number of the other soldiers left, the commander came in. That was just another good reason for Michael to stay where he was. He had hoped Beylion would be able to get a confession or a motive from them, but from the semi-defeated look on his face, the meeting apparently didn't go according to plan. When Beylion grunted and left the mess, Michael felt it might not be a bad idea to head in the same direction, but not too closely. Subtlety always revealed more answers than confrontation, but the latter would do in a pinch.
