I'm an avid fantasy reader and have read the best fantasy - but I just wanted to mention, although expecting OSC to be okay at whatever he writes, I did not expect Harts Hope to be as good as I am finding it! It's excellent!

Any other stand alone fantasy novels? or indeed any other fantastic novels by OSC

There are many who believe that, as a general rule, his stand-alone novels are superior to his series novels. If you liked Hart's Hope, you might also like Songmaster, Wyrms, and Treason. They're all science-fiction, but have a fantasy feel to them. But you might also like every other dang thing he's written (you know, if you're a sensible and discerning chap). I personally have yet to dislike any novel of his (though I still find the Eumenides story from Maps in a Mirror to be greatly disturbing). But anyone at this board can tell you I'm biased.

*steps forward* Pop is biased.

As long as I'm being forward, Hart's Hope is my favorite OSC novel. [Smile]

I looooooooved Wyrms, Hart's Hope, The Worthing Saga, Treason and Songmaster. In my mind they're linked together as a sort of 'series' of excellent stand-alones. I dunno if that makes any sense, but...yeah.

...and I liked "Eumenides", in all its disturbing glory. I guess I like being scared. [Wink] [Razz]

Heck, I just like OSC. I have yet to find something of his I don't like. I think maybe one of his short stories didn't connect with me much, and Homebody and the last Homecoming book weren't spectacular...but I still liked those stories more than a lot of the other stuff I've read! So OSC is like pizza: even when bad, it's still pretty good. [Big Grin]

One of my favorite OSC fantasy novels is Enchantment. Wyrms I didn't care much for. It just felt too much like some of his other novels.
