Hi

I just joined this forum

Orson Scott Card is currently my favorite author. I have a policy of buying any of his books that I can find in book stores (I only have 19 books, because many of his books are not imported to Israel. Maybe I should extend my policy to online stores *s*).
so far I've read the Ender books, the Alvin Maker books, the Homecoming series, Enchantment and even Sarah & Rebekah (yes, even though it's not SF/Fansaty, I still enjoyed his writing in those 2 books).

Next week there is a convention of Science Fiction and Fansaty in Tel Aviv (where I live). Guess who is the guest of honor?

The right guess would be ... Orson Scott Card !
I'm going to bring him some books for signing, and he's going to participate in some discussions, which I hope to attend.
Loial

No wonder he's not coming to my party next weekend.... Tell him I say Hi.

Welcome to Hatrack, Loial. I hope you're able to find all of his books you wish -- I have yet to find one that I didn't like.

jk [Wink]

Anyway, you are very lucky that he's visiting you. I don't get to see him till November when he visits San Jose CA here in the United States.

By the way, you ONLY have 18 books? I have about that, and I consider my collection big. Most OSC fans don't have that many of his books. [Wink]

So actually, don't be afraid to call yourself a connosuer(sp?) [Big Grin]

Well, just don't brag too much about your collection here or CalvinMaker will come and post his entire list of OSC books which is enough to turn me green for a solid day. [Wink] [Smile]

Welcome! Hope you stay long and have many a happy posts. [Big Grin] [Wave]

Israel, eh? I'm curious to know if OSC has ever visited Montana, or plans to?

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

I'm not sure if he ever has, but as far as I know he has no plans to do so soon. His next tour is in November to promote the sixth instlament in the Alvin Maker series, Crystal City. The list of stops is here. Welcome to Hatrack. [Big Grin]

I'm way jealous, Loial (by the way, you have a cool name). Welcome to the 'rack, hope you enjoy yourself. And feel free to brag about seeing OSC in Tel Aviv to everyone who does't live near any of the tour stops. Like Provo. Hint, hint. [Big Grin]

I have read Robert Jordan (which is quite obvious considering my nick)
The first forum I've ever been to online was a Wheel of Time forum. I chose my nick back then (6 years ago), and have been using it ever since in every forum. (This way I don't have to decide which nick to use when I join a new forum [Smile] )

hi, i'm new.

ok, now that that's over with, i have a question for any and all. in skimming through some threads, i have seen a few references to the size of OSC collections. for instance, Loial has 19. they seemed low. i was wondering how many of his books people own on average. i understand it doesn't take many to figure out that he's a phenomenal author, but am i more obsessed than i realize or do i just need to broaden my horizons? btw, my count is...let's just say around 30.

I've got around 20 or so OSC books. But I don't think anybody here can hold a candle to CalvinMaker, who'll freely admit to being a little obsessive. [Smile]

hmmm...i'm not quite ready to admit to being obsessed. i am thinking about attending my first signing. he's coming my way in november. i get the idea that calvinmaker has everything OSC has ever had a hand in. i would if i had the income. uh oh...

I think I should start ordering OSC books on amazon. (or I'll never broaden my collection)
I'll probably start with The Cristal City

Have you read the other Alvin books? If so, you have to read Crystal City. Good choice! [Wink] [Big Grin]

have you tried ebay, loial? the shipping costs may not be worth it, but there are some sellers who will ship anywhere, and sometimes the auctions are for multiple books. ebay has allowed me to give calvinmaker a run for his money collection-wise. [Smile]

Calvin doesn't just have every book OSC has ever written (heck, I almost have that, though I guess I am an obsssed fan... [Wink] [Smile] ), he has first edition, specila copies and whatnot of every book OSC has ever written. Now I think he has to come in here and post his list, just to keep us humble. [Big Grin]

Having one copy of each book is good enough for me.
I don't need any special editions.
I bet this Calvin guy has no Hebrew versions of OSC books. [Big Grin] Come to think of it, I don't either [Big Grin]

Good enough for me too. Let's just remember that when he posts his list, hopefully this time it wont cause anyone to leap off of tall things. [Wink]

My mom has like 30, I think, collected over several years, but she says she still wants a 1st edition of Capitol or Hot Sleep, because she really related to them. She promised them to me after she dies. [Big Grin]

Oh, and here's a cool fact: My mom paid 50 cents to see OSC's play at BYU. So I know he's not allergic. [Big Grin]

ok, i am definitely not as crazed as calvinmaker, although i am somewhere in between only needing one copy and having special editions, etc. then again, all but two of my books are paperback because i cannot afford hardback at this time. i do have a special copy of lost boys that was given to me by a friend that works at the library.

Us folks in the middle of the US get missed! Oh well, even if OSC hit Texas it wouldn't be close to where I live.

::Wondering how Sarcastic's Mom could relate to an OSC book::

I have never bought an OSC book! Though if OSC ever starts to raise red flags in the Homeland Security Library spynet, my library lending record will get me in serious trouble. My husband owns Worthing Saga, Call of Earth, Prentice Alvin, and COTM. And I was given Speaker for Christmas a couple of years ago.
