Now I originally read this book when I was ironically 6 years old. My friend who was 10 gave it to me to read in the hospital i was sick alot while young. Now this book has had a huge influence on my life and I love it alot. But nough of that it was just for emphasis on why I wanna know.

Anyone have any ideas on actual movie plans, such as auditions, current casting, ect. I'm 17 currently and would fit in absolutly no way. Though I'm curious so if anyone has any info drop it cause it's good to know.

just hit the link on the home page. That article at Fresco has all the updates.

Or, for a shorter answer, nothing is happening yet. The script is being revamped and written at the moment.

Posted by scottneb (Member # 676) on :

The easy answer is that they won't be casting for a looooong time. They may have perspective characters planned out, but nothing will be concrete for a while.

The movie is still in its infancy as far as production goes. Yes, a movie that has sat on the drawing board can still be in it's infancy. In fact many films die where 'Ender's Game' is sitting now. They still don't have a final script done. After they do finish the script, they will start plotting their shoots (times of day, camera angles, filters, lenses, composition, backdrops etc.). Then they'll start to look for people to fill the roles, biggest (Ender) to smallest (the guy that walks down the street and says "Hello"). They won't ask for extra's until a few months before they start shooting (which is where you might fit in).

With that said, good luck on getting on-set. Let us know if anything pans out.

I heard that the boy that played Anakin Skywalker was going to play Ender but keep in mind this could be unconfirmed information i havent had time to check around so much lately as with trying to balance between all the stuff in my life but still i cant for this movie to come out im know it is highly anticipated and im sure with OSC working on the script in will no doubt be an award winning movie as following in the footsteps the books have made for the movie to walk in...

No, sorry. Haley Joel Osmont is going to play Ender.

I love this side of the forum.

I feel grounded here because nothing will ever change. [Smile]

I think that the day the film is finally cast will be a sad day indeed. This side of the forum won't be nearly as stable and helpful to me in my life. *sigh* I guess I'll just have to deal with that.

I think if there's going to be another movie made, it would make more sense to follow the ES line. They'd already have a lot of the actors, and by then they would probably all be the perfect ages. Maybe whoever plays Ender would be pretty old by the time they get back to SFTD, so they could just use him again, if he's good enough and willing to do it. So I think we'll really be arguing over who's going to be playing Volescu. (I think I spelled that horribly wrong.)

Posted by TheClone (Member # 6141) on :

I think Sean Penn could be dirtied up enough to make a nice Volescu (following the other guys spelling)

They will go back in time and hire Haley Joe Osment from several years ago to play Ender. It must be! He IS Ender!! Or rather, he was...

I can see where it would be critical to cast Ender late, at least early Ender, after all a couple of years is a big difference in those first ten. If they do the story right and don't make ender out to be an overnight success.

I think Russel Crow would make a good Mazar, and a good Graff might be Stevan Segal or John Travolta. (they get fat too!) [Big Grin]

I think we are all underestimating the power of the director in a situation that has the majority of the rolls as children. Fact is, kids are very adaptable. When given a roll, most kids will produce the character very poorly. When a director cares about the film and cares that the children do a good job, he can actually pull the child-actors into their characters and make them actually believe that they are that person.

I'll site the movie ET as an example. If you've ever watched a documentary on the behind the scenes action. You've no doubt seen Drew Barrymore crying between scenes. Steven Speilberg pushed her and made her believe that she was her character and made Drew believe that ET was real. In her mind she was never acting. If the director for Ender's Game is good at that aspect of directing, then any child will do.

I liked that Oscar opening sequence where Billy Crystal plays everybody. Though I didn't quite understand the significance of the outfit he was wearing in the "Finding Nemo" segments.

Can I be Petra? Please? I'm only about 6 or 8 years too old! I think I'd settle for handing cups of coffee to the make-up artist for the extras if it meant I could see the set and meet everyone.

My vote for Mazer goes to Ben Kingsley.

As for me, can I be random-person-walking-down-the-corridor-on-Eros? It's about all I'm fit to play, anyway. I can't act, but my walking skills are just fine.

I.want.to.be.Peter,

Where do you get your information?

Both of the actors you mention are too old for the role. Osmet in in his teens now. Llyod was the front runner 5 years or so ago but he is also too old now, or will be by the time the movie gets made.

In his last book tour OSC said that the kids who will star in the movie may not have been born yet. Or they may just be toddlers.

Yes, as all of us think he's a FABULISTIC actor and are seriously pushing to get him cast as Bean.

I think Pat's two-year-old, Dustin, should play Ender. By the time they're ready to start filming, he'll be old enough for the part. And his eyes kind of look like Haley Joel Osment's.

has anyone seen Love Actually?

I was floored by the boy who plays "Sam" -- the credits say he's Thomas Sangster.

Just watch it, you'll see -- He is Ender

Posted by JaimeBenlevy (Member # 6222) on :

Kabederlin, that's why I like him, because he's so bad he's funny. In Walking Tall I think he finally realized he only gets hired for his fame so he doesn't need to bother with that pointless acting anymore.

Posted by Kabederlin (Member # 6304) on :

I guess maybe I'm just biased against Pro Wrestling...

And for Mazer. In the book he had to be in at least his fifties. I'm too lazy to go back and double check but just doing the math... Will Smith or the Rock would also not fit for those parts. An older guy would be more suitable. Also one that might appear to be weak. Not so muscular like The Rock. Ender underestimated the old man, didn't he? If Chris Farly were around we'd have a perfect Graff... Lol. Just Kidding. But that'd be awesome to watch.

Mazer has so many great options. Danny Glover or Morgan Freeman would be my faves. Is Louis Gossett Jr still acting? He'd be good, too.

Ender should be black.

[Razz]

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

That wouldn't bother me at all. I don't think that he *should*, but he *could*.

Posted by Jalapenoman (Member # 6575) on :

If he were still alive, I would cast Andre the Giant as Bean. I'm sure that, because of his great acting skills, he would be able to play the role convincingly.

How about Robin Williams as Mazar?

How about Whoopi Goldberg as Valentine?

Alan Rickman has the personality to make a great Peter. Put a little make up on him and he could be a lot younger!

Since we now have a black Val and a white Peter, I think we now need an oriental Ender. How about Jackie Chan? All of the makers of his unrealistic movies already make it seem like he can fly on his jumps; this already qualifies him for the battle rooms.

Danny Elfman needs a part. Maybe as the government guy who gets on his knees in the final battle scene. Either that or he could do the music. I want "Only a Lad" on the soundrack.

The Rock = Petra

Can we please just put Rosie O'donnel to sleep? She is the last person I want to see in this movie.

I need to be cast as the new Hagrid. I'm really buffing up these days.

Malcom McDowell for Graff! I always pictured him when reading it.

Haley Joel Osment would have been good 5 years ago, but by the time this thing makes it to shooting he'll be collecting social security. Best to hold off on Ender and pick some no name uber kid. But if it started shooting tommorow, Id go with Rory Culkin which I believe has already been said

hmm... I like the way you think!

try this on for size:

Bob Saget = Graff ?

Posted by Pepek (Member # 3773) on :

For cripes sake.. Owen Wilson would be Ender of course, and Jackie Chan would play Bean.. and the movie would be turned into a comedy and the age level would be adults, and while 'Owender' makes fun of the little laser guns and the tight spandex, 'Jackie Bean' would be doing all the real work.. using his ninja moves on all those buggers and such.. duh..

~Sir Montague

And then a Piggie would be in Ender's trunk when goes to Lusitania! It's perfect!

Oh, and Keanu Reeves as Alai. I have no reasoning for this.

Posted by Alcon (Member # 6645) on :

I'm thinking Robert Redford as Mazer. He has that gruffness, and he'd be old enough by the time the movie comes out. Or maybe Harrison Ford...

Ok whats everyone got against Russel Crowe? The guys an AWESOME actor! Ever watched Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind in quick succession? I went through all of a A Beautiful Mind with our realizing it was him!

But Peter.. he'd have to be played by, like.. Antonio Banderez.. or Seth Green.. or.. hmm.. me! of course..

And Mazer would be played by Arnold.. "I blow you up Mr. aliens. I squish your tentacles with my massive mussskles.." -

The Big Stars:

Elijah Woods - Ender
Verne Troyer - Bean
Antonio Banderas - Bonzo
Rowan Atkinson - Rose de Nose
Michael Clark - Graff
Sean Connery - Mazer
Dakota Fanning - Valentine
Haley Joel Osment - Peter
Hugo Weaving - Buggers

In the event of not having enough money for Big Stars, we call these people:

Ender - a Potato
Bean - a String bean
Bonzo - a Carrot
Rose de Nose - a Rose
Graff - a Tub of Butter
Mazer - a Moldy Slice of Bread
Valentine - an Apple
Peter - a Lemon
Buggers - Cheerios

In the event of not having enough money for veggies, fruits, a rose, butter, bread, or cheerios, we call George Bush to play them all.
