Mr. Card, I remembered when I read "Speaker" how impressed I was with your insights about family relationships, specifically the complexities of what most would deem as dysfunctional patterns, including abuse. I remember thinking--how can he know so much about so many things? That was only the second book of yours I had read, and now 23 book later, and frequenting this site, I know how well read you are.

I'm just curious, in very general terms, what have been your sources for your insight on human nature and family relationships? I don't expect you to reveal dark family secrets (if you respond at all), but I wonder how much of itcomes from books, from personal observation of others, mere logic or intuition, etc.

I am a scholar in the marriage and family field and an observer of people in general, and especially value many of your insights infused in your writing about the complexities of family relationships.

Thanks, and looking forward to finishing your collection (except that I will have to start reading your books at a much slower pace--or re-reading them).
