After I read all the Ender series (shadow and ender) I felt like I really knew a few people, them being: Ender Bean Miro Jane Wang-mu But the one main character who really is still a grey area for me is Valentine. I have read and re-read her PoV parts and maybe I'm just blind or something but I feel like they're covered with a shroud of mystique.
Your thoughts?

Well that is in part because most of her life was spent traveling with Ender across the hundred worlds.

true; but she DOES have a life, doesn't she? a husband and kids? and she IS Demosthenes, one of if not THE most powerful thinker of her time.
Ah, well. C'est la vie.

But how interesting could her life as a mother/wife be?

I'm not saying that OSC should write a book about Valentine. I'm not saying that I need the gaps to be filled in. In fact, I like the gaps. Gives me space to stretch my imagination.
But I digress. I'm just saying that I never got a full understanding of Valentine like I did the other characters. Easy as that.

and don't dis moms, yo. Posted by Advent 115 (Member # 8914) on :
Now I fully understand and I agree with you, the gaps do add a kind of mystic.

Sorry about that I just didn't think that kind of story would make for a good book.

I feel sometimes that Valentine doesn't need to be explained as much because we're under the assumption that everyone has had a Valentine in their lives. She is one of those characters that although independantly powerful and meaningful in her own way - is entirely dependant on how we percieve her from our own experiances. She is more of a symbol at times, especially in enders game then a person. She is to strong of a symbol in other books to require a book of her own.
