I must be missing something big. It has been awhile since I read CoTM and I just got through SotG. But I'm puzzled. I could have sworn that Peter, alive, well and much nastier than he appears in SotG meets up with Ender in CoTM. So how can he have ...

SPOILER!!!!

died at the end of SotG supposedly only having had this one contact with Ender via phone so Ender could write The Hegemon. What am I forgetting or missing? I know Ender creates a "Peter" and a "Valentine" out of his mind but I was pretty sure I remembered the real Peter and Valentine still being around to be pissed off about that.

Also...more SPOILERS.... I thought Peter was clearly single when he meets the "servant" from that Asian country and develops the whole Jane connection. No mention of Petra and five kids and all that.

can someone set me straight?

SotG wasn't even planned when EG was written, kiddo. Card kinda dropped Petra and the kids in.

And Peter was dead by the time CotM rolled around. Dead and cold and buried. Only Val lasted to be offended by her foul little xerox copy. The CotM Peter is unnaturally cruel because he is Andrew's caricature of what he remembers of his brother, just as the new Val is sickeningly sweet.

Nice name. Reference to the Remnants books or the wrestler?

The Peter that Ender created is not the real Peter Wiggin that Ender grew up with and became Hegemon. The real Peter Wiggin died 3000 years ago. The new Peter that Ender created sprung forth from Ender's own mind, because he was the 'bad' to offset the good Young Val.

Valentine was the only sibling to see herself doubled.

Hope that helps.

thanks to you both, i thought i had remembered two peters....clearly not. phew, i wondered how he could have made such an error. though i do think "dropping" Petra in, as you put it Black mage, was a bit contrived. I don't watch wrestling and i'm unfamiliary with the remnant series. blue meanies are in the Beatles movie Yellow Submarine. always had a fondness for them.
thanks again Monroe and Mage...i don't have my copy of CotM anymore so i couldn't check.

Oh! I knew there was a third reference I was forgetting! That trippy movie that made my head ache for days . . .

I've got a hole in me pocket [/Ringo]

I made plenty of errors and contradictions, believe me. I haven't made it an obsession of mine; and thanks to folks here on Hatrack, some of the more obvious ones get caught before publication.

But something as huge as that? Bringing a dead character back inadvertently?

Heck, I probably do that somewhere too. But not Peter!
