OK, I'll admit it, I'm a lazy reader.

Just wondering if "The Yazoo Queen" is a stand-alone short story or if I have to be familiar w/ the Alvin Maker series and characters to "get" it?

Both. Most of the characters, save Alvin and Arthur Stuart, are new. But if you don't have some idea of what Alvin and Arthur are up to (in the grand scheme of things) you may have trouble following.

But it's a good read either way.

OK, thanks JT. I read (whatever the first book in the series was) many years ago. And I think I may have read the second. I remember Alvin Maker but not Arthur Stuart.

wasn't it in one of the Legends anthologies? I know I've read it before, I just can't remember where (and I'm to lazy to dig out my legends books to check).

That would be Legends II: Electric Boogaloo
