I could be wrong, but I got the impression that Treasure Box was not as well received as some of OSC's other works.
I for one think it is one of his best books.
I liked the contemporary nature of it, although some things feel dated now, like the reference to Martin Page's music, when as far as I know he only had the one hit and is hardly a famous musician. Actually that seemed odd at the time too.
I especially liked the part about Hillsdale mall not having a single bookstore. Though that's no longer true, it was for several years and a great source of frustration to me.
Although at one point the freeway is referred to as Bayshore. People on the Peninsula don't say that. They say 101.
But as far as plot and characterization, it was really enjoyable and I've read it a whole bunch of times and am rereading it again right now.
What does everyone else think?

I bought Pastwatch and Treasure box at the same time last week. From the descriptions I knew I would like Pastwatch (I did), but I wasn't sure about Treasure Box. Started it a couple of nights ago and I literally couldn't put it down.
I really got caught up in the book and enjoyed reading it.

I read Treasure Box awhile back and I really liked it (but there haven't been many OSC books that I didn't enjoy.) Pastwatch was great! I think my favorite OSC book outside a a series was Enchantment. One night I thought I would read a couple chapters before I went to sleep, and I ended up staying up all night and reading the whole thing.

Ha. Time flies. When I lived in Santa Clara, we called it "Bayshore" or even "Bloody Bayshore," because freeway speeds were so new and frightening to us. Never crossed my mind that it would change. Especially because I think El CAmino was still officially 101 at the time ...

For some silly reason I've been trying to not read any books of Orson Scott Card's besides Ender and Alvin. That didn't work because I read Enchantment. I saw Treasure Box at Borders and now I kind of want to read that.
BTW, anyone know the status on the next Ender and Alvin books?

I liked Treasurebox alot when I read it, but it didn't strike me as much as many of his other single books (espescially enchantment) because it was such an intense mystery. I was very drawn in and read it quickly the first time, but now that I know how the story ends, that's sort of "it". On the other hand, there was another one I read more recently that reminded me alot of treasurebox. It was called "Homebody" or something like that, about this guy who redoes houses. To me it was very similar to Treasurebox and alot of fun to read.

I think that both Treasure Box and Homebody were ones that you can't put down... Hence me reading both in a week.
