In Memory of Earth, Rasa was about to tell Luet why she lapsed Gaballufix's contract. She said, "I lapsed his contract when I learned that he...," and then stops herself.

And then we never find out! I don't think it's in any of the other books. Is there an actual reason, or is it just a plot device?

I think there's an actual reason, and I think it involves Gaballufix's lust for power in some way. Maybe Rasa learned that he only married her to try to solidfy support in the City Council (especially among the districts around the Lake) or maybe she saw some indication of his intent to get involved in international diplomacy & entangling alliances.

Or, who knows, maybe she found out that he was cheating on her, but one would think that such a scandal would remain in the public memory in some form or another.

I thought it actually said somewhere in later books that she lapsed him because he tried to use her influence to get the women to relax the rules about men owning property in the city.

Yea, DDD is right. I actually stumbled upon that reading CoE earlier today ._. . I don't think this is the first time I've read MoE and thought this, then read CoE and remembered it did tell. Thanks anyways! [Razz]

I'd also like to know what it was that caused Issib's disability. It's stated Rasa had some trauma while she was pregnant (but before she knew she was), yet we never know what that was.

I know... that's something I'd like to know too... but I suspect we never will. However, the way Rasa was acting about it, I bet it was something trajic.

I always thought Gabya had done something . . .

Well, since Issib's disability isn't really specified (or else my knowledge is lacking of what could cause this) he had to leave the cause equally vague.
