A couple of days ago, I tried to log into my yahoo.com email account, and my password didn’t work. After 3 or 4 tries (thinking I had caps lock on, or had hit the wrong key or something) I went to “sign in help” and learned that my account had been deactivated due to violations of the Yahoo terms of service. As some of you know, I’ve been under constant harassment for the last two years, most of it online – through email mostly, but some of it reared its ugly head here, and I suspected that this was just more of the same.
After sending an email of protest to Yahoo.com, I came over here to Hatrack, and what do you know, I couldn’t log in. My password had been changed, both here and on the Nauvoo forum (apparently they don’t know that I also occasionally post on Ornery…) I complained to the moderator and learned that my password and my email address had been changed… (Instead of abcedfg6@yahoo.com, it was now abcdefg22@ yahoo.com. Incidentally, this is not a new tactic for my stalker, she has set up other email accounts one or two digits off of mine before… she has WAY too much time on her hands, apparently).
I was able to get my profile information changed, fortunately, but I have to say I am fed up. The person who is causing all of this grief does not even know me. She lives >3000 miles away from me. I’ve tried ignoring her, hoping she’ll go play somewhere else. That hasn’t worked, obviously. When I don’t respond to her malicious emails, she finds online forums to use to attack me; she breaks into my adult children’s email accounts and sends me and my friends and family hateful (and libelous) messages; uses my extended family members’ email addresses to harass me; breaks into my (now ex-) husband’s account and lurks there for months… sending me messages that I thought were from him. There’s actually more that I could go into, but it makes me tired thinking about it, and you good folks really don’t need all the sordid details (I wish I didn’t know them either).
It is absolutely ludicrous that a (supposedly) adult person (she has 3 grown children… she’s not a child) would spend so much time and energy trying to aggravate me. Because she’s not doing anything else, really. She’s not hurting me in any objective way. But I’m so tired of being attacked. I’ve changed my email account numerous times over the last two years. I’ve been careful to try to be as anonymous as possible in my online postings (even changing minor details, just to obfuscate things a little more). I’m fairly certain that she’s lurking even now, here on Hatrack, and may feel the need to tell “her side” of the story like she did before, masquerading as my ex-husband. I suppose that’s her right. She probably does have some twisted explanation for why I need to be punished by someone I don’t know.
But I can’t take anymore of this. As much as it galls me to make significant changes in my life due to someone else’s immaturity and maliciousness, I’m leaving Hatrack as maui babe. I’ll sign on again soon with a different name, because I don’t want to give up the forum entirely. But for now, I’m gone.
With much Aloha. maui babe

Sounds like it's time for you to start chosing better passwords... Hint: 1) use numbers in it, or even better 2) words from foreign languages, or best 3) words from foreign languages that don't use the Latin alphabet (meaning that they have to be transliterated and not everyone transliterates the same way)
Besides that, it really is crappy that someone out there is being such a little punk. I'm sorry you're still being plagued by their juvenille pranks.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Wow, that's awful mauibabe. I remember you saying stuff about your cyber-stalker. I didn't know it had gotten this bad. What an immature brat she's been. I would be so angry if someone messed with any of my passwords. Can the law help? Vicious e-mail's are one thing, but does logging onto any online account which is not yours constitute fraud? You might look into that. I'm sure the mods here would cooperate. On the other hand, a hands-off policy might be best. I second the advice about passwords. I wonder how she got your hotmail pw??? Good Luck, mauibabe.

Secondly, I'd be exceedingly happy if one of the moderators would delete the above post since it likely contains private information (I havn't read all the way through it, I don't care enough to) that is at the very least uncouth and at the most slanderous. Thirdly, someone else respond civilly, because I'm really really angry right now and need to play a violent video game to cool off.

Police tell people to watch out for pickpockets (which is what you REALLY are, EllenM). That doesn't mean that they send the victims of petty theft away because they didn't heed wise advice.
It is identity theft. You can try and justify it away as much as you want, but I believe that you know that what you did is wrong. As in sinful.
I should know. I'm a fiend. We're all about sinning. But hey, thanks for being open about your own sins. Me, I'd cover them up as much as I could. Your conscience must be REALLY burned to be able to declare from the rooftops that, yes indeed, you tried to PICKPOCKET someone's identity.
Unfortunately, now everyone here knows not to trust you. Oops. Ah, well, since they're curious about you, they'll do a little research. . they find out you're MORMON. And a little black mark will go up in their sub-conscious minds against that religion.
So your efforts aren't entirely wasted.

The old, 'She did it to me first!' justification scenario!
Brilliant! An oldie but goodie, if ever there was one. Really, this is one of the best tactics ever. Blame (or claim-- in most cases, it doesn't matter) your victim for the same crime which you are accused of.
But alas! Your presentation is not strong enough to overcome the disbelief of your audience. They already do not trust you. This seems another pathetic attempt to justify what they already see as obsessive, malicious behavior.
They care about you less now than ever.
Any six year old knows that in order to pull this off you have to. . . have to what? Come on-- you're a mommy. You can finish this lesson all on your own. . .
Or maybe you won't. Maybe, you'll mend your ways.
I really doubt it.
I look forward to critquing your next justification.
Better luck next time. Keep trying-- you'll get the hang of it.

A couple of points:
If all Ellen M's posts have been deleted, I didn't do it. I'm not aware of her being banned; if ALL her posts are gone, she probably did it herself.
Second, I haven't checked today, but as of Saturday Ellen M had another screen name here -- and this screen name was posting things AGAINST Ellen M. Now that's strange!
Third -- and most important, as far as I'm concerned -- you should certainly be able to email me by clicking on my email address in my profile. Actually, Kathy, this is pretty common on USENET boards; one way to spot a troll, in fact, is if somebody appears, posts something controversial, and is then replied to immediately by another new poster who rebuts his controversial point in an equally inflammatory way. So far, Hatrack's only had one or two cases of this -- thankfully.

When I tried to get your e-mail, Kathy, it said either you or an admin (you again ) had blocked it. Anyways, if you can't get mine that's no good either. I'm at hobbes7714@hotmail.com (and hatracksmilies@hotmail.com but I haven't checked that since I created it. ).
Another at Kathy

I get busy Saturday and miss all the fun.
Kathryn, thanks. You are a great moderator.
Mauibabe, we miss you, whoever you are.
EllenM, I have no idea what you said, but it sounded hysterical.

Kathy, not only do I hate it when people register screen names that aren't real, but I'm wondering if you can tell us what her new screen name is?
Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :
Jeez, that's a pretty long charecter.
Hobbes Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :
First of all, your name isn't Kathy.
Secondly, I'd like an A please.

Yeah, we stopped watching Wheel of Fortune a long time ago because it would drive my husband crazy. It had actually been so long ago that he'd forgotten how much he hated watching it with me. Recently, while waiting for something to come at 7, he flipped it on WoF ('cause that was the channel he wanted to be on at 7. I'm happily typing away on the computer, not paying attention to the show, and he starts talking. He's trying to guess the phrase. Now, this is distracting me enough that I look up to figure out why he's talking to the TV. Of course, I say what the phrase is and he made some comments about my parentage and . . . well, I promised not to say another word as long as he stopped talking to the TV. Our research goddess has ANOTHER hidden talent! Quite impressive.
My question now is, has mauibabe come back under another name? She said she might and I feel bad for her if she did cause she can't ever come forward cause of that libelous wacko...but if she's here, I hope she gets comfy and joins us for some fun. (((mauibabeunderanothername)))

She probably already *is* back, y'know? She could be anyone!
Even you!

Wow, I miss a couple of days online due to illness and everything hits the fan. I'm just as glad I missed it all, to be honest.
I have to say, I did get a good laugh out of this one, though.
Back to my other name now.
Oh, and Katharina, I'm sure looking forward to meeting you in Honolulu next month.

My word, a lot sure goes on around here when one isn't looking. Thanks to our gracious moderator for moderating so thoroughly!
Great hangman game!
I use to play that with my son, except we didn't to hang men - we built flowerpots and a flower.
Really.
That was back when I thought I could raise a boy totally in touch with his feminine side -
stop laughing, now -
new parents have innovative ideas and try them out - and discover they don't work - and go on . . .
