I'm trying to boycott the other popularity threads around here today, so I'll post in yours. I feel like I'm running for student council in high school again. *sigh* I thought I could escape it, but I guess not.

[edit: trying not to be so whiny. Not succeeding]

Hi Icarus, how are you? I almost had a heart attack when I heard the news about the accident at Disneyland, but by the time I logged on Mama Squirrel had already posted to say you and Cor were safe.

I might not say it often enough, but I'd miss you horribly if you disappeared.

Icarus, what happened?! I didn't even hear about it! What thread is it in? (I'm glad you and Cor are ok too.)

Posted by Lalo (Member # 3772) on :

Yeah. You better not disappear before you buy me a beer. Otherwise, what are you good for?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

Oops, sorry I ignored the thread. I never could get that link to work and I just stayed away because I figured whatever was going on in there, I wouldn't understand anyway.

Wow. You better tone it down if you want to fit in around here.

But you're new, so we'll forgive you.

Well, you sure grabbed my attention.

**gives attention**

Thanks, Narnia, Ryuko, dkw, Eddie, TwoSon, Damien, et. al.

I'm just learning from that Ralphie guy . . . self-promotion is crucial!

I think Icarus is a really cool name. What's it mean?

Posted by Ralphie (Member # 1565) on :

Yeah, we should bump the old threads for Icarus so he can familiarize himself with the place.

btw, Icarus. We've already had a lot of topics of homosexuals and marriage. You may want to do a search.

Posted by Icarus (Member # 3162) on :

Pat, you are mistaken. This is not a popularity thread. This is, simultaneously, a "soothe Icky's self-pity thread" and a "grumble about popularity threads thread."

Kind of a dance just for wallflowers. So all you cool people, go away!

(Doesn't know) The only stores I've looked at in the area are the comic stores. The Source Rocks. I utterly <3 that place.

Sorry . . . I'm better now. [Embarrassed] [Smile]

A lot of stuff in my life (unrelated to Hatrack) has been going pretty badly lately, and I guess some of my general anxiety creeped out last night. Eventually, I'll get around to starting a thread about the real problem, but I'm not quite ready to yet. Suffice it to say that I've been feeling like a pretty incompetent human being lately, and that was my pathetic way of seeking afffirmation.

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

pssst, Don't mind Icarus, he's been flying just a weee bit close to the sun recently and more than his wax wings have melted, if you get my drift.

Posted by Dan_raven (Member # 3383) on :

doh, [Embarrassed]
does my timing on an Icarus insult post suck or what.

Try this for Affirmation.

Take 2 [Hail] and post in the morning.

You're not incompetent, you dweeb, and everybody loves you. You're not still sore about that $500K question, are you?

Posted by Damien (Member # 5611) on :

It's okay, Icarus, we're here for you! ^_^ Hang in there, things'll start lookin up for you sooner or later.

(((Icarus)))

Posted by Storm Saxon (Member # 3101) on :

Sorry, Icarus. [Frown] Let us know what's going on when you have the time.

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

He's a geek, not a dweeb, thank you very much.

Dude, I don't think the SoCal crew would have come out to meet an incompetent human being, and if we did, we wouldn't have had such a good time.

Posted by Narnia (Member # 1071) on :

I just love the title of this thread!!! [Big Grin] Icarus, you're one of my favorites...so is Cor. [Group Hug]

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Saxon, a geek is topic-specific. While he certainly is a geek (Disney, for example), he has also earned the all-encompassing title of dweeb.

I admit, part of the confusion is that "geek," with no topic included, has come to mean whichever "geek" topic is currently in the top spot on the list of the people in any given situation or conversation. Thus, I attempt to point these things out to people as ignorant as you, in order that such confusion may eventually abate.

Best Wishes,
Pop

Papa Moose is a geek geek.

Icarus - I only hug if I get to cop a feel.

Otherwise, I hope things smooth out for you, sweetie.

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

First of all, he is not just a geek, he's a Geek. I think your denial of his Geek status is just a ploy to topple the Geek hierarchy, stemming from your jealousy at not even getting a cabinet post. (If you agree to play nice from now on, I might be able to pull some strings and get you appointed head of the new Ministry of Onanism.)

Furthermore, let's examine the word, "dweeb", shall we?
quote:
An even lower form of life than the spod
quote:
Dweebs, unfortunately, are often the cause of ill-will, and may well bring a bad reputation to the system in question.
I dispute your claim that this matches our beloved Icarus, and, furthermore, I take severe umbrage with your feeble attempts to impugn my President!

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

You betta believe it.

Posted by Leonide (Member # 4157) on :

edit: gah, i gotta wait for my brain to catch up with me before i start typing stuff.
okay, let's try this again:

I think Papa is a geek's geek.

Y'know?

That geek that all the geeks just love to be around so his normally annoying idiosyncracies are therefore endearing.

Icarus is a really, really, really cool guy. And his geekiness is of such a nature that it doesn't detract from his "responsible adult" demeanor. He's just awesome. And i should know. I've met him!
