Yes, the main D-I football team is ranked #12/14 in the nation.

Yes, our state quarter will feature a cow, a slab of cheese, and an ear of corn.

Yes, all pro sports teams suck.

Yes, our main university is both the #2 party school and the #1 college sports town in the nation.

We have also produced our fair share of 'Rackers...

Okay, this is essentially a "How's about we try another meet-up" thread. I forsook the usual "UNTIE" in the title, sorry to disappoint. I'm doing this now since we usually take a while to get these things sorted out, and I would really like to meet a lot of you before mid-December, when I leave the frosty hills of Madison for many months.

So, why not? Let's try this one more time. No gas shortages, no "other plans," no excuses!

Weekend suggestion #1: 6 December. Any takers?

Don't forget #1 for beer drinking, #1 for hard liquor consumption, and #4 for pot smoking.
And yet silly Jeni decides to go to the school that makes lists like "Students who never stop studying," heh. [Grumble]

Oh, and as for the get together... I'm not sure, I'll have to see.

And don't forget all those seventh-year seniors!

Also no mandatory auto inspection! You can drive around with a 2x4 bungee-corded to your car in place of a rear bumper and no one will say a WORD! (I saw a car like this in Madison--it had a rear window sticker that said "question technology.")

You've seen "cheese heads," but have you ever seen official Green Bay Packers "cheese butts"? I have. You couldn't *get* me drunk enough to strap on one of those.

I've already celebrated Wisconsin, anyway--with shouts of jubilation as soon as I crossed the border into Illinois for the last time as I headed back East ... [Razz] [Razz]

Posted by Jeni (Member # 1454) on :

No mandatory auto inspections? They sure do make me go every year.

And no one is excited to get to Illinois, ever. If you must be in the midwest, Wisconsin is the place to be.

I dunno Jeni, I know an awful lot of folks I went to school with that thought great things about their little state. But for us out of staters I think you're right. I truly believe it says something when everyone I know who came from out of state to go to school at UIUC left the state immediately upon graduation, whereas the majority of the ones who came from in state stayed there. I think they just don't know.

Hey - what's wrong with being a seventh-year senior?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Not a thing! Stretch it out as long as you can. I only managed to make it to 6th year senior, I'm afraid.

I have a magnet on my fridge by astounding graphics - "College - the best seven years of my life."

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

High school graduation - 1994

College graduation - 2001

This is so embarassing. I did take a year and a half off in the middle though. Does that help?

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

Kat, you're my hero.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

I'm looking at; high school - 1999, college - 2005. But I will have two degrees.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Mine too!

What did you major in, by the way?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Two BAs, or a BA and an MA?

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

*sigh* One BA (English) and three minors (Latin, Chemistry, Biology). This is what happens when you're on an open-ended scholarship and your best friend is Peter Pan.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

Sigh. My four-year scholarship is now gone and I'm almost at the in-state credit cap.

But I will have a BFA and a BS and a minor.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

High School: 1991.
No degree yet.
I'll beat you all. [Smile]

O_O

I'm always a little freaked out wen I discover I'm older than somebody on this forum I assumed was older than I.

Posted by Happy Camper (Member # 5076) on :

Well, kat, it all depends. Was that year and a half break voluntary? If so then it's okay. Oh, and it's strange to me to see graduation dates like yours because you graduated high school the same year as my brother, and college the same year as me. My best friend is on the seven year plan. Possibly more...

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

It was voluntary. And although I admit I spent much of my time at college in an incredibly joyous cocoon, I did have a great time in Neverland.

You dated Michael Jackson?

o_O

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Yeah, isn't that funny? Tom really gives the impression of being about a decade and a half older than he actually is. Part of it is his occasional casual reference to having been angry at Reagan when he did this or that while in office. I know was surprised when I realized that he was younger than me.

"Part of it is his occasional casual reference to having been angry at Reagan when he did this or that while in office."

One of my earliest memories, honestly, is the Reagan/Carter election. People think I'm weird when they hear that. [Smile]

people think your weird even if they don't hear that.

Dude. Derailed thread. I wanna get together! I wanna game, baby!

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

You know, we need a Hatrack GUYS night, full of Dungeons & Dragons, Playstation gaming, tackle football, and impromptu guitar.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Y'all wanna come to WenchCon? TAK has a guitar, Bob is here, and its equally inconvenient to both California, the East coast, and Wisconsin. [Smile]

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I told you before, I'm boycotting Texas. [Smile]

I'd rather crawl through a field of broken glass with my fly unzipped thank you.

Things must have changed since 1998, then. (I lived outside Madison from 1993 to 1998. I remember that before we moved back to PA, we had to replace our cracked tail lights in order to pass PA inspection. By then they had been broken for almost a year, and patched repeatedly with red plastic report covers and duct tape.)

Posted by HollowEarth (Member # 2586) on :

PA is evil when it comes to auto inspections though.

Posted by Yozhik (Member # 89) on :

Yes.

I'm almost to 500 posts. Should I do a landmark?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

If you want to write one, I for one would love to read it! [Smile]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

I'd love to read a landmark by you Yohzik!

Really Tom, that's one of your earliest memories? You'd have been in what, second grade, at the time right? You don't remember anything from before that?

My first political memory is Carter wearing a sweater on national TV, asking people to keep their thermostats in the high 60s to help lessen the impact of the energy crisis.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I graduated high school a few years early, Noemon, so I'm actually a bit younger than you'd think.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

That makes sense Tom; I thought that I remembered you being more than just a year younger than me, but I thought that I must just be wrong. How old were you when Reagan was inagurated?

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

I was born in '75. *blush*

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Tom is younger than I am? I was just getting used to the idea that he was my age or a bit older.

*dies*

Posted by Primal Curve (Member # 3587) on :

Tom,

You're still and old man to me.

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Right, right, '75, that rings a bell; I think you've said that before. Weird to think that I have memories that are older than you are!

Posted by Carrie (Member # 394) on :

*Bump to rerail*

So, am I the only one who'd like to get together by the end of the year?

Hope not [Smile]

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Nope. Actually, if you still want to see Christy and me before the LotR marathon, we're certainly willing.

If Jeni can make it...most likely so can I...mwehehehe

I'd love to see Carrie and/or Jeni again, and it would be fun to meet more people.

Christy and Tom I get to see all the time, which -- of course -- means that I know full well how much spending more time with them would be.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Speaking of which, Sara, we haven't heard from you in a while. How are things? [Smile]

Posted by ClaudiaTherese (Member # 923) on :

Tom, I sent your lovely wife an email. [Smile]

(I'm switching over to working sporadic night shifts -- 8pm to 8am -- and it's made me cranky. But I'm all better now.)
