He was too small, too slow, too unskilled and recently, too old (at 41) to be an NFL quarterback. This weekend, starting for the hapless San Diego Chargers, Doug Flutie proved them all wrong... again.

It's great to see one of the all-time sports underdogs have a big day against one of the NFL's best teams. Passed for two touchdowns, ran for two more on those short, old legs. Congrats to a good fellow!

Yea for flutie... He's been passed around more than a joint at a phish concert, because people keep saying those same comments about him. I like to see a guy give a big up yours to all the disbelievers.

Didn't he also have a cereal? I seem to remember a Flutie Flakes. Now that's impressive! I won't consider myself to be impressive until I see some Frosted Novak-O's on the shelf of every discount market in Utah.

Well... yes he does and they were a huge seller in the town he was playing for at the time because they were to help raise money for, uh...crap I can't remember right now, but some disease his son has. Downs Syndrome, or MS or oneof those types. But anyways they were a charitable thing.

I believe Flutie Flakes were sold (nationally eventually) to benefit The Flutie Foundation which worked on behalf of autistic children. Doug Flutie's son is autistic ( I believe it was autism).

Heck of a guy.

Well, I plan on having Frosted Novak-O's (and soon to be released Frosted Novak-O's with color changing Marshmellows) to be charitable, too.

It will help me to build a house... buy some crap... um... and I'll send a couple of cans of Pumpkin Mixture to the homeless shelter.

Sopwith -

you are right, his son is autistic and the proceeds did go to the Flutie Foundation. this was pretty big news a few years ago but its been a while and I had forgotten the details. thanks.

My Brother-in-law has a box of Flutie Flakes. He had a similar surge for a while for the Bills, it'll be interesting to see how long he can keep it up for the Chargers.
