My husband has been fascinated by a History Channel series on JFK. It's disturbingly pointing fingers at Lydon B. Johnson's administration for the assassination. Now, Kennedy was before our time, but rumors of a big coverup have always been running around. There seems to be new evidence, or at least a new willingness for people to talk about it. What's changed?

At any rate, if the implications and accusations are true, I'm horrified.

Can somebody really have so much power as Johnson and J. Edgar Hoover are reputed to have had? And how come no one ever stood up to them? (It does seem that anyone who questioned them ended up blatantly MURDERED - not just dead).

Unfortunately, it wouldn't surprise me if all of it were true. I've been discovering how government works through our local politics. The Good Old Boys Network is very active in Kokomo. Everyone talks about it, few do anything about it. I'm glad we have a new mayor, who seems to be quite different from the ones that have gone before (we'll see). Maybe the people, at last, are fed up with fat bureaucrats. Maybe politicians who at least pretend to care for the environment and go out among the people (this one did, attending as many community events as possible and talking to people - even I, who don't get out much, met him personally)will make some needed changes, without belittling the citizens. Maybe someday our government will treat ordinary people with honesty and respect.

But I won't hold my breath.

Nothing. Coming up on the 40th anniversary of the assassination, movies, book, and TV specials come out of the woodwork, along with "new revelations".

Didn't see it. What, specifically, are you referring to?

Yes.

Well then, your town is a step ahead of a lot of places, where it is not only not talked about, but if someone does bring it up, the charges are vehemently denied.

I'm wondering if it was last night's shows that you are talking about. Looking at the History Channel's line-up, it seems that Sunday night, they had JFK: A Presidency Revealed, last night they had three shows, all called The Men Who Killed Kennedy. (The Smoking Guns, The Love Affair, and The Guilty Men.) Tonight starts a 6 hour mini-series called The Men Who Killed Kennedy (Part 1-3 is on tonight and 4-6 is on tomorrow night.) The reason I ask is because it looks like Friday night, they are going to rerun the shows that were on last night. (Saturday night, they will rerun JFK: A Presidency Revealed.)

Also, if you are interested, it seems that on Sunday, they are having a show on called LBJ vs. the Kennedys: Chasing Demons.

quote:
The death of President Kennedy thrust Lyndon Johnson into the nation's highest office--and a new chapter in a bitter feud with Robert Kennedy. One of the greatest rivalries in U.S. history, this 2-hour look at their tumultuous relationship features never-before-heard oral histories and LBJ's White House telephone recordings. We reveal how the Kennedys saw Johnson as a threat to the New Frontier, while LBJ nursed a deep-seated fear of being overshadowed by an increasingly mythologized JFK legacy.

Yeah, I'm just ranting. I don't watch t.v. much, but my hubby has had the History Channel's Kennedy stuff on. It's like a bad political thriller, which I don't tend to read or enjoy.

I'm ranting because we have spent over a year trying to get through to our local government about flooding issues in our county. My hubby has spent a great deal of time researching and compiling information that the officials themselves SHOULD be doing. He's discovered legal issues and has been talking to the people who wrote the laws. But still our local administrators say "our hands our tied - the law says it's okay." Which is ridiculous, because the law says just the opposite. (We're talking about floodplain filling, which in our community has previously led to damages and promises to again if current policies are maintained.) So I'm frustrated.

How did J. Edgar have so much power? He kept files on everybody, that's how. He knew where the bodies were buried and who put them there. He knew which married public figures were sleeping with which folks not their spouses. And he wasn't above using that information to get his way. From some of the things I've read, Lyndon was kind of the same way - and he and J. Edgar seem to have been long-standing friends who shared information from time to time.

Now, did they have anything to do with JFK's assassination? Doubtful, in any direct kind of way. However, I wouldn't be surprised - if there was a plot by other parties to do JFK in - if one or the other of them found out about it and just let it happen. After all, neither one of them had any great affection for JFK, and both had reason to think they might lose their jobs in a second JFK administration.

The question, I think, of whether or not there was a conspiracy to kill JFK, will always remain open.

It was a suicide involving time travel and a botched curry.

At least according to Red Dwarf.

That is the conspiracy theory I follow most often.

oh,

If you want the truth behind JFK's assasination, read the Illumanati Trilogy. Trust me, after reading it you will never believe another conspiracy again.

It's not really the JFK assassination that I'm upset about. It's the fact that so much of our government operates on networking with people in power and being dishonest to the public. Not necessarily lying, but acting in very slippery ways. Being two-faced, etc.

Lma.
Yep.
Hoover was fond of using blackmail, intimidation and PR to achieve his goal of self-aggrandizment, and other goals.
If you challenged him or the powers-that-be, you soon had your own file, like the Reverend Doctor King. [Frown] [Angst] [Grumble]
I know little about Johnson, nor do I know if either was involved in the assassination.

You know, one of these days, I'm going to start a thread asking only the people who have read The Pentagon Papers to post there. I just don't understand how anyone whose read those has any faith in the government at all.

(Not only did J. Edgar Hoover have information on everyone, he also looked fabulous in 3" heels. [ROFL] )
