This is an extremely tentative thread for a SoCal gathering in January. I say "tentative" because I'm an utter flake when it comes to these things. I'm starting this thread just to commit myself to hooking up with all these SoCalers. (That's right, I need to force myself to get with Sandy's thang. I need help.).

I'm looking at the 31 of January. Then again, if that all-day LotR thing's going on, it's a doable option. I know we got Sandy, the Meese, Rivka (?), and a few others -- anyone up for a rare sighting?

Just be warned, I am in no way a responsible citizen and likely to completely foul this thing up if I'm left running it.

And the title refers to whatever the hell it is Gandalf says about Mordor's growing power. The Shadow is spreading? The Shadow is weight-training? The Shadow has gone through therapy and is making itself a productive member of society?

Whichever it is, it's that.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

Are you serious about this? Because I was thinking about going back to SoCal in January. I'd be thrilled to meet you in person.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Erm. Am I still invited if I haven't managed to see the first two movies yet? [Blushing] Although I suppose I might have by then. [Dont Know]

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Well, they are both on video and DVD by now.

I expect that I'll have seen it already by January, but I'm always down for hanging with my Hatrack homies.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

In the past two years, I have seen two movies in theaters. I have rented no videos. [Dont Know]

Not deliberately; that's just how it's worked out. I still haven't managed to watch the video someone lent me months ago . . . [Blushing]

Ok, I have a tendancy of getting side-tracked when it comes to these gatherings by always taking on more things than I can handle. I'm a double-booker. Yes, I suck.

Anyway, I would love to meet Rivka and Eddie, and see Kat and the Mooses again. To get this really going, I'm willing to step in as the official organizer and do a good job of it.

What do you all think?

Posted by Architraz Warden (Member # 4285) on :

Well, I'll be in AZ (hopefully) as soon as early January... This means I might be able to escape for a weekend into SoCal...

Might finally get that real life grudge match out of the way, that'd be fun.

I'll keep my eye open for possibilities.

Yeah, I wouldn't be all that jazzed about meeting that saxon character either.

*in a small voice* I forgot about WenchCon. I can't go to Cali ( [Wink] ) until February or March. So, I couldn't make the January one. Yes, sorry, I double-booked. I suck. In such a case, though, I would be delighted if there were another then.

Posted by NdRa (Member # 2295) on :

Well, I just assumed wanting to meet you was a given. [Blushing]

I would love to meet Saxon and anyone else from hatrack! Your name just slipped my mind because I've never actually spoken with you. My brain farts.

Yeah, because you know.. The South... Southern California...

That means they have to be really close, right?

See, the LA/Valley/OC/Inland Empire region I can do. Atlanta is a little out of the way, and outside my budget.

Ah Mike! You're such a cutie in person, who wouldn't want to meet you!

I'd like to join the fun too. I'll keep watching for updates.

BTW, Ndra and Eddie, you're welcome to bring the party over to my house if that helps any.

Posted by NdRa (Member # 2295) on :

Thanks Ladydove! Partying at your lovely house sounds like an excellent idea.

January 31st is fine with me. How are you all with this date?

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Too far away to tell for sure, but Jan. 31st would probably work for the Moose Crew. We don't have any interest in the movie, though -- is that a necessary all-inclusive part of the plan?

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Jan 31 works for me, so far as I know. Although I suspect it means rivka would be left out again.

Posted by LadyDove (Member # 3000) on :

Jan 31st is good for me. The movie isn't mandatory for me.

Posted by NdRa (Member # 2295) on :

Rivka - Would you be able to make it if we carpooled? If not, we can maybe figure out a different day.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Sorry, Sandy, I think I was unclear about this last time. I can't BE driven on my Sabbath either. But thanks for the offer! [Smile]

Posted by Lalo (Member # 3772) on :

Dude, the date isn't etched in stone. Which days would be better for you? For example, in my case, so long as it's Jan. 31 and onward, I should be free. Which days are you free to drive and be driven?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Sundays work well for me. Sundown Friday (and therefore to a lesser extent, Fridays in general) thru full-dark Saturday is a no-go.

Other than that, I pray I will be employed by then. Until such glorious time, I'm free many weekdays.

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Wha'bout Feb. 1st? Same weekend, but rivka could attend? Does that bump anyone else out of the picture?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

*bump* for BobbyK

And to ask all the rest of the SoCallers what Pop asked (which I somehow remembered having been answered, but my memory's been playing tricks on me all day [Angst] ) -- how would February 1st work?

Posted by LadyDove (Member # 3000) on :

Feb 1 works for me.
Again, I don't need to see the movie, but I am craving a Shinda (and to meet Superstation and Connie).

Who wants to come out and play?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I don't particularly care about the movie either, but am willing to tag along if it's on the agenda.

I want to meet Sandy, and Superstation, and maybe BobbyK, and see the rest of y'all again! [Smile]

Posted by BobbyK (Member # 5970) on :

I'd be interested in meetng up, provided my finances allow for the trip. Count me in. I'm cool with any date provided I know a good three weeks prior to request time off.

Sooo...

February 1st it is! Is my house okay with everyone? If so, all we need is to decide is the time of day, where to include the movie and what to eat and drink.

No rivkettes that weekend, unless the schedule changes. (Possible, but unlikely.)

I think kat said she wasn't going to be able to head out our way that short a time after WenchCon -- but I'd love to be wrong! [Smile]

And I promised to fetch Xavier when we had one of these -- and the offer still stands.

And we need to convince scottneb that SoCal is where he and his wife need to come visit. He said "West Coast"! [Big Grin]

Posted by LadyDove (Member # 3000) on :

Thanks Snood! I'd forgotten that Xav was now on the Left Coast.

Too bad about the rivkettes; if the schedule changes, I'd love to see them.

I've added Xavier and scottneb to the list.

Hi scottneb. Don't you want to come play in sunny California?

Of course I might not even have one by then, so it could be a non-issue...

Are we still on? It's on my schedule!

(Sorry, Xavier, I forgot to look last night.)

Not sure if anyone cares, but Feb 1 is Superbowl Sunday.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Is that going to be a problem? Not for me, certainly . . . [Dont Know]

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

Well, I do enjoy the Superbowl, but it probably has more to do with the commercials and the food than the actual game. And since all previous Hatrack events which I have attended have involved food of some sort, I think that would be covered.

Would it be terrible of me to want to bring some of my own chips and dip and/or homemade salsa?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Terrible. [Big Grin]

But do it anyway -- I suspect you'll be forgiven. [Wink]

::bump::

So, this is currently marked on the Saxon Family Calendar of Events. I just wanted to make sure that we didn't show up all unexpected-like.

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Mama and I were talking about this yesterday -- I'm sure hoping it's still on. Of course, now that Ladydove has met Superstation, she may have no interest in our attendance any more. We were thinking of showing up Saturday night and sleeping in the minivan in their driveway, so we'd be sure not to miss anything. Has there been a time decided, so we know when to get out of the car and knock on the door, or is 5:15 A.M. (Superstation usually wakes up around this time) fine?

i only have wednesday and thursdays off work, so i can't ask for any other time off without more notice. i am also trying to avoid asking for any extra time off in case my best friend needs me to fly out to virginia in case her boyfriend's surgery goes poorly.

sorry guys [Frown]

maybe we can have a weekday shinda sometime in the future.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

It's sure on my calendar! A start time would be useful -- and I need to know if I'm still fetching Xavier, as planned. [Smile]

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

I wonder if Eduardo is still planning on coming.

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

The superbowl sunday thing might not work for me just because I'd imagine that others have requested the day off before I can. Plus I am new, they may not like me wanting to take a day off so soon.

Then again I'm not exactly thrilled with this job, so whatever. I'm in [Smile] . They can fire me if they want to.

Then again it took me a while to find even this job. [Frown] So maybe I should try and keep it. I'm so torn!

I'll see if I can make it and keep the job both. If not I'll decide one way or the other. I should let you know soon rivka. And if I can go, I may be able to take a bus to meet you halfway or something...

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Keeping a job is a GOOD thing, yes. And I really wouldn't need to know until, say, the Thursday before? More notice would be nice, but not necessary.

If you can get closer without too much effort/expense, that's good; but I'm really ok with driving to San Diego. It's a pretty drive, most of the way. [Smile] And back when I was carless, I got lots of rides -- I figure it's a comes-around-goes-around sort of thing, and I haven't worked off my debt. Anyway, even with a car, I still need rides sometimes. (The repair shop comes to mind . . .)

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Xav, there's a possibility (though a slim one, admittedly) that we'll be heading to San Diego on Thursday or Friday, then heading back up to the Shinda on Sunday (looks like the Saturday night in the driveway thing won't work). If we do that, it's all good for us to give you a ride up. You'd just have to wrangle up a ride back home. I'll let you know more when we know more.

Pop- Having met Squirrel and Superstation increases rather than lessens the "cool" factor of getting to spend more time with the Moose Crew.

Though I do have a problem with Sunday. My Father-in-Law is coming out and John wants to go to Disneyland with a few of his friends for his B'Day. Saturday, he has basketball until 1pm and he doesn't want to go during the week because he says that he wants "to get there as soon as it opens and stay until it closes."

Would Monday work?

Pop- You and the family can camp in our guestroom if you like. The view isn't as nice as the driveway, but it is closer to the bathroom!

Heck! If we can't move the date, you and Squirrel could host the party at my house and we could join you all after the Magic Kingdom closes.
:::thinks::: If John knows that you all are waiting at the house, he'll probably want to get home early.

:::hoping that something will work-out so I can see you all:::

If we do it Monday, I'd have to leave by 2-ish.

My place is available Sunday, if that helps.

Posted by Lalo (Member # 3772) on :

Crap, this crept up on me.

Next weekend I'm doing a beach getaway for three or four days with some friends. The weekend after I'm free, thus far, with the obvious exception of the Shinda -- but it's definitely on the schedule. Weekdays are impossible, though, considering I'm taking a leave of absence this weekend for the beach party.

So this a definite Superbowl Sunday event?

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Yeah, I'm unclear here. Are we all talking about the same weekend? Feb. 1st was the last date I saw in play -- that no longer works for you, Ladydove? I mean, we can still do Saturday the 31st, though that'll definitely preclude the San Diego trip. And since Saturdays also preclude rivka's attendance, I guess it might mean Xavier wouldn't be there, either.

Of course, the way it stands now, we can do just about any Saturday or Sunday. Those whose homes we're considering (rivka and Ladydove, it appears), can you verify the dates you're currently thinking?

Hi Everybody
I haven't read this in a long time and am disappointed that the gathering might not work out. The 31st would actually be better for us (sorry Rivka) but we can do either day so I hope something works out.

<Sacrilege on its way.>

What if we pushed it back to the 8th? Or the 15th? Or the 22nd? (If on the 22nd, we could try to contact the Midwest gathering.)

What if each person whose attendance is a possibility were to give a list of dates that would work? For us, I'm pretty sure any Saturday and*/or Sunday between now and the first week of April would work.

Cool.

Ok, all in favor of the 15th? Strong preferences for a different day?

Posted by Lalo (Member # 3772) on :

That's actually a bit of a relief -- I'm in a rather obnoxious time crush at the moment, and I don't know how easily I'd make a gathering. I don't yet know what's up on the fifteenth, but the farther back the Shinda can be pushed the more likely I'm going to be able to make it. March, for example, is almost certainly going to be stress-free.

Posted by docmagik (Member # 1131) on :

LOL. You're probably all going to decide on the 15th, because that's the week I'm going to be in Pennsylvania.

Date: Feb 22 - a good date because so far everyone is available and it jives with the Midwest gathering. (Man, wouldn't it be nice if we had video conferencing?!)

Time: 1PM - ? I don't want anyone to have to wake-up early on a Sunday morning.

Place: My house

Activities: Air-hockey, laughter, sharing stories and kissing babies (still too cold for the water-slide [Frown] )

Consumables: What do you guys want to eat and drink?

Sound like a plan?

BTW Pop, what's the number on this Shinda?

Shinda I, The Misspelled Cake
Shinda II, The Wrath of Snood
Shinda III, The Search for Icarus
Shinda IV, The Voyage Down the 101
Shinda IVb, Rivka Strikes Back
Shinda V, The Phantom_Scopatz

I think the Wrath of Snood and Journey Down the 101 were both Shinda II. And Shinda III was kat-ilicious. [Big Grin] And Rivka Strikes Back must have been IIIb, 'cuz I have a distinct memory of telling a very skeptical bakery employee to write "Shinda III B" on a cake. *giggle*

Irvine is in Central/Southern Orange County, and is about a 15-20 minute drive from where I live, although in the opposite direction from Whittier, where LadyDove lives. But I don't see any reason why I couldn't come pick you up. Unless somebody else is coming from further south than Huntington Beach.

[Frown] I thought it was too good to be true. Turns out that session is currently on wait-list, so I don't know if a space will open up. If I don't find out within a week, I need to pick another city. This is so sad.

I sure hope it's real, because we're gonna show up. Also, Xavier, we're hoping to visit San Diego that weekend, and if that works out and you get the time off, we'd be happy to drive you up to the Shinda on Sunday. We wouldn't be heading back down afterward, though, so you'd have to fend for yourself in getting home. Rivka sounds amenable, so you're probably ok there.

Okay, now I'm confused. Is it on Sunday, the 22nd, or Saturday, the 21st?

Either way, I'm arriving Saturday morning, the 21st. If the Shinda is the 22nd, I'll spend that day with my friend. If otherwise, then otherwise.

Turns out I get a rental car for my stay (yay!) so I'll be driving from Irvine. Does that help anyone? Xav, you need a ride back to San Diego?

[Edit: [Big Grin] I should probably point out that I'm quoting LadyDove's post above, before I start confusing people about the location.]

kat, if you'd prefer to ride with us rather than be stuck in the non-carpool lanes, Irvine is totally close to us. On the other hand, driving yourself from Irvine to the Dove house would be more adventurous. So I guess there's pros and cons either way. Let me know what you think.

saxon75: Oh, if it isn't out of the way, I'd totally love a ride. [Smile] Yay for carpool lanes!

rivka: [Razz] I thought for the longest time the 22nd was Saturday. I confused the poor ladies at the travel office with my insistence on traveling that day. *sigh*

Moose is going to have my ass for this, but I can't come. My brother's currently stationed at a Naval base in Italy, and just asked for a leave of absence to come down and visit me to help me train for this bike trip. He's more pumped about it than I am.

Gah, I'm sorry, dudes. I promise to get photos online to make up for this. And Moose, I'm biking out to his house soon. But I can't pass up this opportunity to see my brother -- it's been years since he left, and I really do love the big oaf.

Before it's asked, of course I'll try to redirect him toward the Shinda -- but given his opinion of Internet-intensive people, I doubt he'll do any more than write you off as lonely weirdos and encourage me to pick up chicks at Nymphomaniacs Anonymous.

Yes, I'm the more delicate one of the two of us.

<Is so excited that he gets to have Lalo's ass.>

Hope you enjoy your time with your brother. I guess we need a new name for the Shinda....

Because saying I'm "undiscovered" makes no sense in light of my latest announcement?

I didn't think anyone would pass up on the oppurtunity to see me in the flesh. [Frown]

Well if you think family is more important than hatrack, let me tell ya...

Ummm, well, maybe you're right.

For eats, I'm thinking lasagna, green salad and assorted munchables (fresh fruit, etc.). Are there any special requests?

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Sounds wonderful -- we have no special requests. Xavier, since Mooselet pulled through surgery so well, our plans to visit San Diego are on. We'll probably aim for leaving some time between 11 and noon, but depending on how things go, perhaps we could meet for breakfast before we leave? That way we have time to decide whether or not you wouldn't be welcome in our van for that long a drive. Er, I mean... then we'll have more time to spend together! Anyway, our SD plans are still pretty nebulous, and we should probably talk before finalizing. Is your cell still the (315) one, or do you have a new number? If so, drop it to me in e-mail or something. Rivka, you're still able to give Xavier a ride home?

Theres a "mandatory" meeting on the 22nd from 8-10AM for my work, but I was thinking about skipping it. I had already asked for the day off before they scheduled the stupid meeting anyway.

But even if I go to the meeting, if you were to meet me at my house at 10:15AM or so we'd have plenty of time for breakfast anyway [Smile] .

Glad to hear Mooselet is alright, and looking foward to meeting you guys!

Yeah, my number is still (315) 532 - 2009. Nobody seems to care that its long distance, since most everyone is moving toward free long distance cell phones like I have. I will still eventually change it, but not any time soon [Smile] .

Oh and as long as there's some meat-free lasanga, sounds great [Smile] .

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Meat-free lasagna for breakfast? Weird. Not sure I can find a place that serves that -- you already know of one?

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

Edit: Duh, I replied seriously.

I must be tired [Smile] .

But anyway, what were you thinking for breakfast? There's an IHOP a couple blocks from me, but I'm sure there's some diners and things on the way too.

I can still get Xav home to SD, check. [Smile]

Xavier, could you email me your address, please? I like to print out maps before I go places -- otherwise I get lost. REALLY lost. And while that can be both fun and interesting, with three kids in the car (not to mention it'll be dark out), I prefer to skip that kind of adventure. [Big Grin]

Lalo, I cannot BELIEVE you are passing up the chance to meet me in person.

The address is 1016 Hornblend St Apt 2.

Or here is a Yahoo map.

Better yet, here is a satellite photo.

Pops, I'm getting my tongue pierced tomorrow, and I hear that you can't eat solid food for a few days.

So the IHOP for breakfast is out, but I would still love to go to a diner that sells breakfast food and soup.

And I can bring a can to Shinda so nobody has to make special arrangements for food. Other than that, everyone can feel free to pick on the lisp I'm sure to have [Big Grin] .

Yep, rivka, to answer your question, it is not a coincidence that Xavier is getting his tongue pierced. As a matter of fact, we both are getting it done Friday between 1:45 and 2:00 CST. [Razz]

That was so awesome! It hardly hurt at all (except for that clamp). Thanks for being my piercing buddy, Xavier. [Kiss] Can't wait to see yours! Speaking of....anyone want to do another Cali get together in the summer so I can come?

Posted by saxon75 (Member # 4589) on :

I've heard that it hurts more on the second day than the first. But to answer your question, I'm sure there will be at least one SoCal get-together this summer, given how many there were last summer.

Erm, am I the only one who has concerns about doing so much driving in this kind of rain? (which all the weather reports I can find indicate will be just as heavy tomorrow?)

Posted by Xavier (Member # 405) on :

rain? There are actually parts of the country in which driving in rain is a scary thought?

I would offer to drive, being that I am quite comfortable driving in near white-out blizzard conditions.

I don't technically have my license back yet. The suspension period has ended, but I haven't sent in the 25 bucks or so I need to get it back.

*Strongly hopes rain doesn't ruin Shinda*

My father -- not generally one who tends to overreact -- thinks I'm nuts to even consider it. I have a mini-van, not something with 4WD, and it's been POURING on and off all day here, and from what I can tell, out your way and LD's way too.

It's not a question of my driving abilities -- I'm a pretty good driver, I think. [Smile]

I don't know what to do. I really want to see everyone, but I am concerned. [Frown]

The shinda was great! Pop brought out his guitar and we all got to sing. Everyone knew the words to Yesterday, Christine and I sang Starry Starry Night, and Pop and Squirrel sang One Boy, One Girl. When placed in the spotlight, Xavier forgot the words to Imagine and I forgot the words to Hey Ya (excorcism successful).

Home. Sweet, sweet home.

Rain. Lots of rain. Dark. Did I mention the rain?

I am very very glad to have not been in any of the three accidents that I passed on the way back from Xavier's. Even gladder not to have been in the HUGE accident that totally blocked off the 5 as they brought in CHiPpies, ambulances, firetrucks, MORE CHiPpies . . .

Less happy about the whole sitting and waiting -- and WAITING -- for what turned out to be 30+ minutes before they let us through. With kids who, of course, woke up. Wanting a bathroom Right Now! and then wanting to know what had happened and why there were so many cops and ambulances. [Frown]

Waiting was a pain. Getting there a few minutes earlier could have been ever so much more painful. [Angst]

I hope all the other Shinda-ers made it back home safe and sound!

We had a GREAT time today -- thanks again for your warm hospitality, LadyDove and family!

Loved seeing the Doves, the Meese, the Storms, and Kat again. Was great to meet the Magics and Xavier. [Smile]

And now it is known, I should never be allowed to play air hockey. [Wink] I guess I'll stick to Scrabble. [Big Grin]

Okay, I was asked to post pics, and feel bad for not posting about it yet.

First of all, I had a great time! And now I am officially real.

First off was dinner Friday night. Papa picked me up, and we had a nice chat on the way to his Mom's house. He picked on me quite a bit, which set the standard for the rest of the weekend. He's even funnier in person though, and loves to share his useless knowledge (so I now know a rule about interstates I was blissfully ignorant of) [Wink] . It was also my first introduction to Mooselet, who is an insanely cute kid whether he is happy (sorry bout the bad pic, but expression is priceless) or looking somewhat forelorn.

When we got to his Mom's I was introduced to Mama Squirrel and Superstation (I apologize for not having my redeye filter on) and Papa's mother. Superstation is perhaps the most well-behaved and happy infant I have ever encountered. He was delighted the entire time he was around us. Mama is a great woman, if a little quiet (perhaps to compensate for her hubby).

We then drove to the restaurant, and in time the whole Moose clan had arrived (the empty chair is mine). Its a very friendly family, with what seemed to be a competitive edge. There was talk of an ongoing argument as to the nature of water vapor vs. steam. Across from Papa (whom I'm assuming everyone recognizes, but is the one in the black shirt) is his brother Dan, who had some funny interactions with Papa. I'll bet they are the same together now as they were as kids. later on in the dinner, I snapped a pic of the hatracker Mooses (Meese?).

Overall I had a great time, and had an experience I am told no hatracker has done before. The dinner was made difficult because of the previously mentioned tonguering.(and also pictured here) I was feeling adventurous and ordered the pizza, and while it was good, my tongue has yet to go down to the previous size.

Then Sunday was the Shinda [Big Grin] .

Papa Moose brought me to it, and more interesting conversation commenced (at least from my side). We were the first ones there, and so got to meet everyone as they came in. First of course we met Ladydove (who somehow stayed out of all my pics!), who is a very nice lady, and has an incredible house (with a waterslide even).

Next I believe was kat or rivka and the rivkettes. They both came around the same time I think. Katharina was by far the guest who surprised me the most, and in a very pleasant way. I'm ashamed to admit that I was worried that we wouldn't get along very well with (considering I don't think we've ever posted on the same topic of any topic here), but she was so very friendly and sweet that I immediately had to adjust my preconcieved notions about her.

Rivka is a very strong woman, and you can feel her presense in a conversation. At first I thought she dissaproved of me (maybe cause of the tongue-ring), but as the night went I think on she either warmed up to me, or my initial thinking was wrong. Either way she seems to be a very intelligent and strong opinioned woman with a great (if unpronouncable [Wink] group of kids). I owe her SO MUCH for bringing me all the way home from it, and am relieved she made it home okay. At first I scoffed at being afraid of driving in the rain, but the freeway changed my mind completely. Several times we had to brake sharply to avoid someone. Thank you again rivka.

Next came Mike (aka saxon75) and his pretty wife Julliete (who Superstation loved to look at). Mike is a very softspoken and laidback dude, even when informing me that I had been pronouncing sakeriver wrong. The sad thing about that one is that if I had considering it even for a couple seconds in the months since learning about it, I would have figured it out.

Last to come was docmagic, with his wife and two children. Regretably, I don't think I got a chance to talk to him very much, and so don't have too much to say. At the end of the night I even called him Mike. Perhaps because there was already two there, and must have assumed all the males were named such [Roll Eyes] .

Then we talked and ate a bunch, and a few hatrack thread type conversations broke out. At one point there were three seperate sub-conversations on the nature of gravity and electromagnetic force, and I felt right at home [Smile] .

We then moved into the living room to talk.(in all these pics, imagine the other half of the room being filled with the rest of the guests), and I got to play with Timmy (superstation). I have had very little experience with children of that age (almost none), so I was afraid to even pick him up. I did eventually though, and spent some time doing my best to ammuse him [Big Grin] . Eventually, it was kat's turn, and she seemed like a natural, so I'm sure Timmy didn't mind one bit.

After a while, Pop broke out his guitar and we had sing-alongs the rest of the night (that I was present for). Don't let the expressions fool you, we were delighted [Wink] . My fav of the night was probably Yesterday. Mama Squirrel, Kat, and Moose have surprisingly good singing voices. I didn't know all the words to any of the songs, which was perhaps a blessing for everyone else, so as not to cause deafness and bleeding from the ears.

After quite a few songs, it was Mike's turn, but alas, he was a bit shy to lead any sing-alongs. Later on I played kat and then rivka in air-hockey. I swear I didn't meant to beat rivka is badly as I did, but I'm sure she will return the favor in scrabble any day now.

And then it was time to go, and I was sad, but I was very glad to have gone, and hope to be invited to the next one! (though with more obvious deformity to appease doc and ladydove)

Pics I didn't link in story:
Pop rocking out on the guitar.
Another of Pop with a captive audience (imagine the other side of the room being filled remember)
Just taking a pic of Mooselet, as he screams to have pictures taken of him.

Xavier, thanks for posting the pics! They're great. [Smile] I'm not sure which one is my favorite -- it's a toss-up between "Rivka drinks radiator fluid" and "DocMagic with Possessed Child." [Wink]

quote:
I swear I didn't meant to beat rivka is badly as I did
See, what you're supposed to say is you had to try really HARD to beat me as badly as you did. Although that would be patently untrue . . . [Big Grin]

And I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I disapproved of you -- I do NOT, at all. Tongue-rings, I confess, squick me out -- sorry. [Dont Know] But I think YOU are a great guy, with a good idea of where you are, and where you're going, and how you're going to get there. Quite impressive. [Smile]

Oooo...the pictures are out! Yay! Hey, why aren't you in them. There's picture of your tongue, but none of you or Christine! Although you did get her back in one picture.

Great recap, by the way. [Smile]
