Came home early from work. Am tired, tired, tired.

Also. It is not normal for me to be making so many mistakes. I can understand a few here and there, but one mistake after another after another... I can't help but think there is something wrong. I am terribly frustrated. Work shouldn't be this hard. It shouldn't.

I know depression can cause problems with concentration and whatnot. But when I've been depressed before, my inability to do my job had much more to do with fear and a lack of interest. These days I feel like I can't think. I'm actually trying to do my job. I *want* to do my job. I focus hard and slow down and take one step at a time. And I still make mistakes. Why is that?

Besides, I don't think it's all because of depression, because I've been feeling better lately. More like myself. Less reactionary, and more likely to think things through instead of just immediately worry.

I seem to recall that when I first started on Prozac, I noticed that my reaction time got slower. Can prozac have any other effects on concentration?

Help me figure this out. I only have a few days left of my probation at work, and I'm seriously worried about losing my job. Hey, if I was the manager, I'd fire me. I just can't afford to make any more mistakes in my life.

I've felt like that when under extreme stress. However hopefully the experts here at hatrack know more than I do.

Well, depression, stress, anxiety can all cause poor concentration. Prozac CAN make people tired, especially in the beginning. What dose are you on? Are you taking it in the morning? Are you on any other drugs? Are you sleeping at night?

Prozac information:

My first suggestion would be to talk it over with the doctor. I would also strongly consider taking the medication in the evening instead of in the morning. If it causes insomnia, you'll have to switch back to morning, otherwise, there is NO problem taking it at night instead of in the morning. It will work just as well and may cause less daytime tiredness. People are told to take it in the morning because statistically more people do better taking it in the morning. Still, 20% or so do better taking it at night.

20 mg. I've been on it for somewhere between 9-12 months, I think, though I've missed a week here and there because I didn't have the money to get the prescription refilled. The last skipped dosage was a couple weeks ago, and lasted a week and a half. I take it in the morning. The only other drug I take regularly is OTC claritin, which I take at the same time I take the Prozac. I've only been doing Claritin for about five months.

I was really, really tired yesterday. Yet I could not sleep well last night. Overall I think I sleep okay. Not great, but not bad. I do have some monthly insomnia, but that's been going on for about four years now. *shurg*

*looks at prozac's side affect list* Oi... I never noticed before just how many I have. Dry mouth, sweating (I wake up DRENCHED in the morning), itching, rash, upset stomach, agitation, nervousness, anxiety. I know the dry mouth is definitely a side affect, because I noticed it almost immediately after starting Prozac. Though I've had problems with sweating on and off for the last few years.

Hon, you might need to try something else. That isn't a quick fix, though, because you have to change meds fairly slowly when you've been on Prozac a while. But there are som many good alternatives now, you really should look into it.

In the mean time, some herbals like Ginko Biloba can help with concentration. Or so they say. I'm sure there are people here who know better than me. [Smile]

Claritin can cause drowsiness, too. It is less sedating than benadryl but can still cause drowsiness in certain lucky individuals. You can take claritin at night too, btw. You ever get those blood tests checked that you were considering?

I am looking for the script right now. If I find it I will go for a blood test tomorrow morning. The lab I usually go to opens early and doesn't require an appointment. If I can't find the script I will call my doctor for an appointment.

I'm trying to remember what all we were going to test for. Syphilis because of the rash, though I highly doubt I have syphilis. Diabetes and thyroid screening too, I think.

I found the script! I am going to hope in the shower and then go for the blood test.

Didn't sleep well again. My stomach is in knots right now, and I'm scared to go to work. I'm afraid I'm just going to have a breakdown, or make another mistake, or get fired. But I know I have to go. Argh.
