I know there's a lot of thanksgiving threads out there, but bear with me. This is a reminder to think about the real meaning of thanksgiving; it's not just about the food, or the indians and pilgrims. I challenge you to think about what you are really thankful for. It doesn't have to be all good, mushy stuff, either. Some things may seem bad at first, but ultimately we learn from them right? Even bad experiences can be good in the long run. Think about it.

(please, no rants- ie: "...thankful for posts without smileys...")

I am truly thankful for all the wonderful people I have met here on hatrack.
I am also thankful for people being honest with me, and letting me know that I'm annoying and obnoxious. That way I can work towards changing.

I can honestly say that I'm thankful for posts without smileys.

*thwacks Pat* You're ruining the seriousness.

(note this is a "serious" thread, therefore I did not use any smileys)

So, if this is 'not' a serious thread, then how can I thwart the seriousness of it?

D'OH!
Spelling error. My pathetic typing abilities.
Go away. Leave us alone.

I'm thankful that I got nine and a half hours of sleep last night. Although one day with all my capacities is no cause for joy.

I'm thankful that I have good friends who are willling to proofread my essays at 11:30 at night. And for hatrack.

I am thankful that no one has figured out I was the obnoxious "BuMinator"...oops.

(It really was a silly joke, and that really was my first impression of Trogdor's name.)

I'm thankful that the oxygen tank fell into the shark's mouth as it was eating the boat and I had the good sense to shoot it and it blew the shark's head clean off, thus ridding the coastline of a deadly menace. Wait, I think that was E.T.

I am thankful for having the very highest quality friends. I can't imagine a better group of people to have had comfort me/ridicule me/hang out with me this semester.

I am also very thankful for a lively Hatrack community. I don't know where I'd've gotten the past few days' worth of drama lest it not come from here. I mean it - everyone here rocks my boat in some fashion, whether I know your name or not.

I am thankful that I have a good vehicle that I own outright, a nice home to live in with a good landlady, 2 great kitties that are like our children, a wonderful husband, a great family whom I can consider friends, the acquaintence who had an extra ticket for 'The Mikado' on Friday night and offered it to me (and that they started 5 minutes late, so I got there before they started), that I basically finished my Christmas shopping last night, that slacker's job interview this week went well (hopefully next week I can be thankful that he has a new great job!), that my boss is buying us lunch today because my birthday's this weekend, and that it's finally cooled down.

I'm thankful that society isn't expecting a lot out of me, and so I can easily give in to my random impulses that tell me to stick my head out my friends window and yell for everyone to enjoy the holidays.

I'm thankful for the color orange.

I'm thankful for cheese, an easy holiday gift. If you got cheese from me wouldn't YOU be grateful?

I'm thankful for good friends with simular tastes, and opposite opinions.

I'm thankful for Dawn, and lunches with her. Really my highpoint of the week.

I'm thankful for my sister.

I'm thankful that the school is providing a decent computer for me to log into when I get out of my classes.

I'm thankful for Hatrack and the countless number of hours I've spent here.

I'm thankful for my kids, my parents, my siblings, SILs, niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, and assorted cousins.

I'm thankful for friends I can call at midnight. [Big Grin]

I'm thankful for Hatrack and my other online "homes."

I'm especially thankful that the past year was better than the year before, and the year to come looks like it might be better yet.

I am thankful for a certain someone here.
I am thankful for food.

I am thankful that it is eleven o'clock on Thanksgiving morning and I have everything chopped and ready to cook.

I am thankful that I am only cooking a turkey breast this year: less hassle, less leftover dark meat that no one eats, less guilt about throwing away three pounds of meat, less cooking time.

I am thankful that I have a house to live in. Even if it is a crappy house. Three years ago we were living in a motel, waiting for housing, and spent Thanksgiving at Chuck's co-worker's house. I am thankful for the Ramanans, who let us share their holiday that year.

I am thankful that Chuck only has to work a half-day this year. Last year there was a snowstorm, and he came in to eat and left again abruptly to go back to work. This year there will be much ceremony to our Thanksgiving. The ceremonial thanks-giving (before the meal), the ceremonial mess-making (during the meal), the ceremonial top-button unbuttoning (at the end of the meal), the ceremonial coma nap (after the meal).

I am thankful for my family's continued health and well-being. I am thankful that I have a four-day weekend to spend reading. I am thankful that I had *just enough* milk to make the pie.

I hope everyone else has as many things to be thankful for!

I'm thankful that I try to think about the things I'm thankful for everyday, and not just once a year.

I'm thankful that this Thanksgiving is going to be very low-key and and spent with my two favorite school-people and no one else.

I'm thankful that the weather here is gorgeous (and finally starting to cool down somethimes)--there's nothing wrong with a high of 77 on Thanksgiving if it's got a low of 43 to go along with it.

I'm thankful that, if nothing else, the crappiness of this semester has a) made me realize every day how lucky I am to have the things I do and b) actually made me look forward to Christmas break in Michigan, for once.

I'm thankful that I'm not always as cynical as I am during the holidays.

Annie? You are thankful for Annie? Why? She'll never let you win a board game, or eat something normal. Heavens no! She's downright silly, and too smart for her own good. I think it goes to her head.

If I were to be thankful for someone, I'd pick Morgan. Now THAT'S one cool chick.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

OK fine, I'm thankful for Morgan and Annie. [Big Grin] And I never win board games anyways.

[EDIT: And to some people, Algerian cooking is normal. [Wink] [Smile] ]

I am thankful I live in Canada and that I'm at work right now.

I am thankful that my wallet, pants, keys, cell phone and jacket were stolen at the gym the other day.

I am thankful for bitterness

I am thankful for sarcasm.

I am thankful I didn't get the point of this thread.

I am thankful that it's not thanksgiving here so it's not a big deal that i didn't get the point of this thread.

I am thankful that i just contradicted my "thankfulness"

lastly,
I am thankful that you people won't actually think i'm a bitter jerkoff and that's its just been a bad week for me.... right?
