We all know Highlander is a great thing, what do you think is the greatest part of all about Highlander?

My Vote: Queen
Secondary Vote: The TV Series spawned Endgame which is the best Highlander since the very first one.

The phrase: "There can be only one."

Oooooohhh... What Dan said.

The very same phrase that should have applied to their movies...

I like the opening to the show, mainly the song by Queen and the line:

"the stroke of a sword and the fall of a head will release the power of the quickening"

and of course;

"In the end there can be only one"

Watching Adrian Paul try to act, or even worse, swordfigtht, is very nauseating. However, Chris Lambert does an OK McCloud.

Yes, the Sean Connery voice over was great.

Endgame was horrible. The first and third Highlanders were good.

And that tv miniseries...ugh.

Methos. I so adored Methos. And Amanda.

Also, I much enjoyed the episode which guest starred Nicholas Lea. This was around the time that he was appearing as Krychek on The X-Files. I took an insane amount of delight in watching Ratboy get blown up at the end of the Highlander ep he appeared in. I *need* to get a copy of that episode.

My favorite part in the WHOLE movie...

When Kergin yanks the old man out of the car, throws him somewhere, gets in the car next to the wimpering old lady, leans over close to her, smiles and says, in his low gravelly voice, "Mom." And then she screams some more.

It's fantastic!!

Then the part at the beginning when they're reporting a decapitation on the radio and the announcer says something like "Officers still don't know his name." And Kergin says to the radio "I know his name." Ooooh. I love it!!

I also love Chris Lambert. There's just something about him in that movie and when he says "It's a kind of magic." at the end, I almost die.

But Queen is definitely the reason to go see the whole dang movie.

"Here we are...." The ultimate beginning to any movie. Personally I like endgame, and the tv show, but thats just me, the second movie was just plain funny.

Actually, I liked the Queen song even better.

BrianM, did you think Adrian Paul was any better in War of the Worlds?

I saw Endgame, and I wouldn't have cared much one way or the other but for one thing: Donnie Yen. Sure, he was only in for a total of about two minutes, but sometimes two minutes is enough. What a complete badass.

Well, quite a few different opinions about Highlander here. Personally, I think the show and Adrian Paul were the best thing since sliced bread. I watched all of the movies but they paled in comparison to the show. Yeah, there were a *few* plotholes and the acting was sometimes a little on the "B" side, but hey, have you SEEN Adrian Paul without a shirt?!

I could tolerate Adrian Paul. Something about Christopher Lambert, though, made me always want to punch him in the face when he was onscreen.

Christopher Lamberts can't act for shit, but I love him anyway, its the voice, but Adrian Paul rocks.

Their can be only one thread, and this must be it.

Christopher Lambert is just a second-rate Christopher Walken.

Also, that's not Queen singing the TV show theme. Yes, they sing the movie them, but someone else was brought in to do the vocals for the TV show.

Was it a different movie that had a hooker say "I'm Candi" and the creepy dude says "Of course you are." I know it's probably a James Bond rip off.

Also, the thing that stands out most in my mind is McCloud's glutes.

Posted by Rhaegar The Fool (Member # 5811) on :

Kurgan says that in the first one.

Rhaegar,

you're not suggesting Adrian Paul does anything that rises to the level of acting , are you???

I really liked the show, with the exception of some really dumb ones, like the rip-off they did of "Of Mice and Men," which they made even worse than the original. (I'm not in favor of capital punishment, but I might have made an exception for whoever was responsible for that episode.)

I got to appreciate Methos, and the acting talents of the actor who played him, and looked forward to the episodes he showed up on.

I'm not saying he can act, but he gets closer to acting than Lambert does.

The actor who played him... um that would be Peter Wingfield. Sorry, I am just slightly obsessed.

Heck, the reason I came to the internet was because of my obsession with Highlander: The Television Series. That's right. It wasn't Star Trek or Star Wars, despite being an avid fan of both, that lead me to the internet. I say internet, because I am including newsgroups, bulletin boards, mailing lists, and such not just the world wide web. And it wasn't being a Card fan either. (This is a happy little bonus to be a part of this community, albeit a small part.)

Some of my first internet friendships came from interacting on the newsgroup dedicated to the series. In fact, I still lurk there (surprise).

I love the show. I love the characters, especially Methos. When I watch the reruns on Spike and notice that season five (arguably the best one) is starting to air, I do a countdown so I don't miss Comes a Horseman and Revelations 6:8 which are crucial to understanding his character. (I also look forward to a certain scene in Forgive Us Our Trespasses [Big Grin] . (Silly obsessions.)

But yeah... after all that... to answer the question... besides Queen's music... I find that it's the people I get to share my obsession with that is the best part of Highlander. A bit silly and sentimental, but I don't care.

Live... grow stronger... fight another day.

You are blessed with intelligence Larisse. Much intelligence.

Personally, I think the best thing about Highlander is that it's a poorly-written, poorly-acted movie and still manages to be awesome.

Posted by Rhaegar The Fool (Member # 5811) on :

I think it goes a bit beyond awesome.

Posted by BrianM (Member # 5918) on :

Adrian Paul is the anti-thesis to acting. It looks like he was fired by Chip N Dales so he got a job on TV. Why do you think most of the series fans are women? It's sure not the acting...

Chris Lambert is OK, but certainly better than Paul. Beowulf was actually a good movie for Lambert.

Posted by Rhaegar The Fool (Member # 5811) on :

Beowulf sucked.

My Aunt is a sweet little widow woman of high moral standing who has never read a science fiction book or seen Star Wars or Star Trek Movie.

Her and her best friend traveled half way across the United States to their first SciFi convention, and spent big bucks in an auction just to buy the shirt off of Adrian Paul's back.

She hasn't been the same yet.

A sad story, but at the same time, a heartening and uplifting story, a story of how people can change, for the better.
