We are going to take a much needed, hopefully relaxing, vacation to San Diego in March. We want to rent a small condo or the like for a week. Anyone have some good websites to find rentals? We are going to go to Legoland, and the Zoo. Any other absolutely must go places for a 10,8 and 2 yr old? I just want to sit on the beach and read the whole week but I don't think the kids will tolerate that for more than a day or two [Wink]

You should go to Mexico. You could probably trade in the kids there, or at least come back with a couple extras.

And, by the way, could you pick me up a large bottle of Kahlua and some pure Vanilla extract too?

Oh, and I could use a new pair of sandals with rubber tire soles.

Thanks.

Go visit the Hotel Del Coronado. Have dessert there at least.

Ooh! Ooh! Legoland! I lurvvv Legoland!

My dad lives/works in Oceanside (a suburb of San Diego) at a motel 6. It's a lovely little town with a thriving downtown (small shops, farmer's market, etc) area. It's recovering from a period of um...yuckiness...Oceanside used to be very...unrefined.

Anyway, I'll ask him for some names of places to go to that perhaps are less well-known.

You should definitely dedicate a day to Balboa Park. It's got several museums (Art, Natural History, Sports, Aerospace) and a Botanical Garden (verrry soothing and educational) and places to eat. It's right near the Zoo, another must-see. There are often free guides through the different museums (of course, there is usually an entrance fee), ask at the front if there are any 'docent tours'.

I miss San Diego. *sniff*

Eat some Real Mexican Food for me~!

I miss real Mexican food. *sniff*

I have some friends who do the Mission Bay, San Diego condo rental thing for a week every year. I think that their rental is through this site. They stay in Mission Bay because it's close to Sea World. Sea World is my kids' favorite part of San Diego.

I went to college in San Diego and love it. My favorite spots were the Gaslamp District and Seaport Village.

Closer to the college, walking Sunset Cliffs to Ocean Beach was always so soothing and Ocean Beach has cool, funky places to shop and eat.

Of course I'm always game for a Shinda [Smile]

More mainstream attractions are listed here.

I don't know that I want extra kids [Eek!] I could score you a bottle of real vanilla. Mexican vanilla is the best. My brother married a gal who has family in the Mormon colonies there. They sent up some Mexican vanilla made by a local village woman. This stuff is divine! If I can remember I'll ask my brother if he is getting any more anytime soon.

Thanks for the links and other suggestions. I am so excited to do this! We had planned it for last March but with Stephen being just a few months post transplant we weren't able to. So we have been looking forward to this for almost 2 years!
