My roommate in college was a stained glass major. In helping her with last minute projects, I discovered that, cool as stained glass is, it is a fairly simple process. My problem is thinking up designs. Hence the fact that I'm not an artist.
Anyway, my appreciation for stained glass led to the discovery of blown glass and the man whose work takes my breath away: Dale Chihuly.
I bring this up now because there is an exhibit in town that I'm going to check out hopefully this weekend. It will be the first time I've touched my camera in months. I can't wait.
If you've heard of him and seen his stuff, take a minute to revisit it. If you don't have a clue, by all means, get one. He's incredible.

Baren, I should send you the pics that I took when lusti and I visited the Museum of Glass last year. Some of the stuff that we saw there just blew our minds.

You should check out the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia... there's quite a bit of Chihuly's work there.
We just went on a field trip with a small group of 7th grade students - and there was a piece called Torch of Freedom (a colum about 35 feet tall, going from the floor of the gift shop, through the ceiling to the second floor). One of the students tripped and fell onto the base of this sculpture, missing the delicate glass by about a foot!
Yeesh.
That'd be a strain on Daddy's credit card, for sure...
But, yes, Chihuly is totally amazing.

I think the lobby ceiling at the Bellagio hotel here in Las Vegas was done by Chihuly. You see people all the time hanging around the lobby with their heads tilted all the way back, walking into other people. Occasionally a visitor will lie down on the floor to get a better look.

The Chihuly exhibit came to Salt Lake during the 2002 Winter Olympics. I liked the chandeliers and Chihuly's rendering of the Japanese fishing net floats.
The ceiling of the Bellagio is cool, but the Chihuly store in the Bellagio reminded me how poor I am.

Take the talents of Chihuly, and combine them with the splendor and magnificence of the Holy Land...
I saw the Chihuly exhibit when it came to Jerusalem two years ago. The glass was displayed all over the walls of the old city, and I saw it on one of my visits. It was one of the most incredible, breathtaking sights I've ever seen. (Not that I'm biased, but Jerusalem is beautiful... and with the glass, that was just surreal).

(flabbergasted) I didn't know pajeba was from MN. And he has a few pieces in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, too. Although none of them are on display as of right now.
