I was warned.

I didn't open it -- I did have Yahoo scan it to confirm that it was what I thought it was.

Sure enough, the "virus checker" that was attached was actually the Beagle virus.

I was sent it from what seemed to be my forwarder (UCLAlumni.net); earlier today I found out that all addressees on another domain (LCFic.com) had received something very similar.

Nasty, VILE spammers! [Mad] [No No] [Grumble]

It's a virus storm this week.

Be sure you have protection, and I'm serious.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

The problem with this one (and the ones my friends got) is that they SEEM to come from an address I do know!

Posted by eslaine (Member # 5433) on :

As I said. There are several viruses out there this week, and they've been busy. I'll bet your friend has Outlook or Outlook Express.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I have neither. But MANY people use the same forwarder as I do.

Cleanse thy computer! Back to the silica hell that spawned ye, ye viral fiend!

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

I don't actually HAVE a virus!

That uclaumni.net forwarding address is a hotbed of virus/spam activity. I can't believe I paid for the lifetime alumni fee just to get that crappy mail service. [Smile]

Hah! I will make you sicker!

And check out this thread....

Ooh, a fellow alum! [Cool]

I actually like the alumni.net service -- in the past month, they've started filtering for viruses, which is nice.

But that's not why I have a lifetime membership -- that's for the magazine. [Wink]

The magazine is awesome. I love the retro post cards. [Smile]

You are a South Campus I assume...

*gives rivka the evil North Campus stare*

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Pfft. I almost minored in English, and took lots of upper div English classes.

Neither North Campusers nor South Campusers get to evilly stare at ME!

(or is it that they both do? I forget . . .)

Ah ha! YOU are one of those "liberal elitists" OSC warned us about: Destroying the social fabric by day, condemning Harry Potter to a separate NYT bestselling list by night. Evil! Evil I say!

My computer decided to crash this week, and my A/V stopped working. Then it wouldn't let me uninstall it. Then I attempted to reinstall it, which began with uninstalling itself first. But the reinstalled version now doesn't work. So yeah -- GRRRR.

I downloaded/installed the AVG one that John recommended -- John, if you're following this thread, from what I read it appears that AVG protects from viruses in e-mail, but not when I use Outlook Express? Do you have any info on that? I don't open unknown junk anyway, but the last time I got hit was because it worked without my opening it, via the preview pane, which I no longer use. I'd still rather be safe, though, especially since I started receiving them pretty frequently a few weeks ago.
