Speculation that she'll play the part of the White Witch.

Brief article here

Do you think that they would also have her play the lady of the green kirtle? (the Witch in The Silver Chair?) The thing is I don't see her as Jadis. And the note linking the white witch and the green witch referred to them both being Jadis. I didn't think that note was authoritative, though.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [Frown]

Actually, as much as I dislike her, I can begrudgingly see her being excellent in that role.

And no, I don't have a good reason for disliking her. It's just one of those things.

quote:
"Long, long ago, at the very beginning, a White Witch came out of the north and bound our land in snow and ice for a hundred years. And we think this may be one of the same crew."

--The Silver Chair, Chapter Four: A Parliament of Owls (The Chronicles of Narnia, One-Volume edition, p. 577)

This is the only place I've found in the actual text that makes a connection between Jadis and the Green Lady. I assume that this is what has led many to assume they are the same person. I don't think they are, though. The owl only mentions them as being "of the same crew", and it was only speculation even on his part. However, in the BBC version, they were both played by same actress, if I remember correctly.

In my LW&W there is a "Cast of Characters" that lists Jadis as all the witches. But I guess if she's a witch, she can change herself from Nicole Kidman into someone more powerful. Nicole is really tall, but I don't get the impression that she's very big boned. And Jadis is supposed to be kind of a giant.

It is possible that the original Jadis was able to do more of a Sauron type of thing and reconstitute another weaker version of herself after the first body has been destroyed. I think it is clear that the Green Kirtle witch was not as strong as the White witch.

My basis for this argument, is that Jadis is the source of all evil in Narnia from the beginning, and so it all has to go back to her somehow.

I would definitely want them to look different somewhat though, even if the same actress played them. Nicole Kidman would probably be great for the role... She's a pretty darn good actress and her skin is pale enough!

I think she'd do a great job.

A point of Narnian cosmology: If Jadis is the source of all evil, what is Tash?

Tash? [Confused]

The movie would probably only be seen by more people because Nicole's in there. Hopefully they get more unkown stars for other roles.

I think Tash is an idol, as far as I could tell in The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle. Maybe I need to read it again...does Tash actually do anything?

BTW...why Why WHY do they have to put Nicole freaking Kidman in this movie?!?!?!? Her pastiness is the only thing she'd have going for her as the White Witch.

For sake of argument, you could say Tash is an incarnation of Jadis too, I guess.

Tash is a bird like giant worshipped by the Calormenes. I think he eats the ape near the end of The last Battle . As the god of the Calormenes, it is highly probably that he represented Allah. There is the very nice resolution where the righteous Calormene prince meets up with Aslan and thinks Aslan is going to smite him for being a heathen, but Aslan explains that all good honors him. But all bad honors Tash. And he doesn't smite him and they all go to eat some of that fruit that apparently didn't come from the Book of Mormon.

I have said before, and I'll no doubt say it again, that that bit of Narnia cosmology was the source of my first questions regarding the validity of organized religion.

I know, I know. Poor Jack is twirling in his grave. But it's true.

Oh, and I think Kidman will do just fine in either part, or both.

Well, it looks as if this was all just rumour-mongering after all.

quote:
In an interview Tuesday on New Zealand's Newstalk ZB, producer Mark Johnson talked for about 10 minutes about the film and made several very interesting comments (thanks to NarniaWebber Brett for compiling this list!):

*Nicole Kidman was NEVER in New Zealand looking at the locations. They never talked to her about playing the role. It was a serious rumor that caught fire.

*They are now closing in on an actress to play the White Witch. One of the actresses still being considered was Adamson's first choice. They hope to make an offical announcment with in the next three weeks or so.

*No child stars in this film. For most of them, this will be their first film.

*There will be some cameos for some roles.

*The star of the film will be the film itself. All of the actresses being considered for Jadis know that this won't be a "star" vehicle.

Read the interview.

quote:
So somehow, there was an early report that she was actually spotted on one of our location reckies or surveys, which we're not quite sure who was mistaken for Nicole. There was only one woman, though our director, Andrew Adamson, has very long hair, so we think it might have been him.

Olivet,

C.S.Lewis was one of the top Christian theologians of his day, and beyond. It was no wonder it made you examine religion. That is what he was all about.

You know, this is going to be a SCARY freakin movie. I mean, there are some terrifying scenes.

I find Nicole Kidman to be pretty scary in her regular movies, she's so pale and skeletal. If they did cast her as the White Witch, she'd probably be pretty good at it...

She can be quite snipey.

Well, she does give me goosebumps. [Blushing]

They talked to the director on television here in new zealand last week and he confirmed from his very own lips

a/ yes Nicole was involved, but as an executive producer only
b/ she is definitely NOT on the cast list as The White Witch, the part having been pretty much filled by a relatively unknown but excellent actress who is yet to be confirmed

at least thats what he was willing to admit to so far [Smile]
(edited for no better reason than I wanted to)
