I wonder what an animal welfare audit would look like for this place. Probly about as well as a human welfare one would. :/

They could probably just slow down the line and fix a lot of thier problems.

Lass, slaughterhouse working conditions, and more importantly the conditions that the animals are in as they go through the butcher line, are well documented, ie often the animals are still quite alive some way down the line. :/

I salute you for your efforts, lass, but I believe it's fruitless to post links about it. 99% of the replies will be flippant, 1% won't--in no case is no one not actually aware of what's going on.

Ya'll might hate me for resurrecting this thread just before it drops off into Page 2 Oblivion, but here goes.

So, why don't I get sick more often from eating hamburgers? Ground beef must be cooked thoroughly to kill E. Coli and other bacteria, and "well done" is something I request when the restaurant leaves it in doubt. Tumor tissue sounds disgusting, but I doubt it can survive my digestive system AND defeat my immune system. Are there even any cases of cancers or tumors from cows crossing over into humans? Ya know, come to think of it, those conditions don't disturb me. I've seen cows in most stages of their lives, and the slaughterhouse/grinder is a far sight cleaner than the pasture, in my mind.

I do have a "beef" [Wink]

with their labor policies. No argument there. From the details in the article, the company is violating federal and state law.

The real sad thing is that many people have no idea what goes on in a slaughter house, or what exactly happens to thier meat before it's killed. A lot of things we do to pigs, chickens, and beef cattle are not very humane.

I'm just glad that my parents buy their beef from a local farmer that goes to their church. I hardly eat beef at all so I guess I'm safe. That and, after Navy food, nothing can harm my system.

I'm always facinated by the people who are appalled I eat my own animals. They think it would be somehow nicer if I didn't eat animals I actually knew
