My meager German Googling abilities are insufficient. I'm trying to find the lyrics to a traditional song called "Bayerische Polka" (Bavarian Polka), and apparently there's a piece of the same name composed by a Georg Lohmann, which is not what I'm looking for.

Everything I'm finding is a track listing or a repertoire... any ideas on where to find traditional German lyrics? Actually, I might have time to buy the sheet music if that's available anywhere. Thanks all!

Annie, are you sure that there really are lyrics to this song? Polka is, as you probably know, a dance, and as far as I know Polkas are almost always instrumental. The only sheet music I've been able to find for "Bayerisher Polka" is for wind-instrument. (And you'd have to pay for that.)

A great place to find traditional Bavarian songs is here. Choose "Singen, Musizieren and Tanzen" from the upper frame and then "Lied- und Chor-blätter" from the left frame. There you can find hundreds of .pdf-s with sheet music and lyrics for tradional Bavarian songs.

Hey, it seems as if I mistakenly added an "r" to the title. Not much better luck with "Bayerische Polka", but I did manage to find the sheet music (without lyrics) for free...

You say it is a dance, but it is also a genre of music. My grandfather listens to polka all the time (He is Polish after all). I don't mind the music, but it does tend to irritate me after a while. Goes better with beer.

I'm having a similar problem: can anyone help me find the lyrics to "Mei Leiderhosen"? It's a pop-ish song in German and I've been wondering what they're singing...

I can probably tell you if you give me the lyrics in German.

That's the problem... I can't understand what they're saying in German...

I'll have to take a look at that sheet music to see if it's right - thanks Tristan. It actually is a song with words... I have an mp3 version of it that Hobbes sent me from a cheap compilation album called "Yodeling Songs from the Alps," of which only 2 or so are actually from the Alps, the rest being country. I've listened to it a lot, but the only words I can pick out are "bayerische, bayerische polka..." The chorus is in yodeling.

I had a German-speaking friend, but he moved away a couple years ago. Otherwise I would have asked him to listen to and transcribe it for me. What I'm trying to do is learn it so my friend and I can sing it and accompany ourselves on guitar and accordion for a talent show. The yodeling part is the vital part. [Smile]

<-- is German

<-- reads "Mei Leiderhosen"

<-- groans

<-- reads "Bayerische Polka" and "yodeling"

<-- runs like hell

Hmm, I searched for rather a long time yesterday, and I'm 90 percent convinced that the song named "Bayerische Polka" is without lyrics (although "Bavarian Polka" might be another matter).

Anyway, if you want yodeling songs, perhaps you could use one of these.

Ooh! Those look great, Tristan.

Here is a link to an mp3 version of Bayerische Polka, if anyone's still interested:
