You're getting married????

Really???

Wow! [The Wave]

Or is the lavalamp just getting ahead of itself?

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

that was carefully muffled shock, btw...

Posted by imogen (Member # 5485) on :

I'm still looking for the jaw-drop smilie. Maybe a grinning jaw-drop smilie.

But I figure the wave was appropriate, as they looked both pleased and suprised.

For Zan

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

Well, Dharma and Greg got married on their first date.

Seriously, what does this thread mean?

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

is that ring photoshopped? Are you for real?

Posted by Kayla (Member # 2403) on :

And in Fools Rush In Lanie says "See, now, this is the kind of conversation that usually happens on a second date," referring to the fact that Alex lived in New York City and Isabelle lived in Vegas.

I so wish I could be with you to celebrate in person. The world is right in itself, tonight.

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Okay, so forgive me for asking, but was this one of those things where, like, you were sitting on the couch and staring into each other's eyes and Bob said, his voice low with emotion, "You know, Dana, I feel like I've known you forever. I'd ask you to marry me, if I thought for a second you'd say yes." And then Dana would go, "Well, heck, if you've got some rings, I AM an ordained minister...."

[Smile] Seriously, you two look very happy, indeed.

Dana, isn't he just the neatest guy you've ever known? Isn't he incredibly cool, handsome, witty, and deep, so strong and so radiantly perfect? Aren't you the luckiest girl?

I soooo wish I could be there right now, just to get high off the buzz you guys are emitting. [Big Grin]

If Bob were a woman and DKW were a man, it would NOT be a gay marriage thread, Bob. Do the math.

However, it might be a transsexual thread, and that would be mighty interesting.

Actually, I see the OR, now. I guess it would be a gay marriage thread. Which would be too bad, because I would avoid it. So, please, either stay the same, or BOTH of you awitch. Thank you.

Wait one minute.

I don't trust Bob, and I'm not to sure about Dana.

I refuse to believe any of this, so close to April Fools Day.

Nope. Its one of Lavalamp's famous April Fools pranks on the entire Hatrack community.

Don't forget their little "Dating" thread prank.

You can't fool me.

Nope, nope, nope.

OMG--they really did it.

Hey. I want an invite to the wedding. I doubt I can make it, but I want a real paper invite, embossed, and such.

If there is such a wedding.

Posted by Papa Moose (Member # 1992) on :

Just spoke with them on the phone a short bit ago -- they were considering waiting until April first to announce, just so we'd all assume it was a joke (which would have been mighty funny, especially to LDS members like David Bowles), but they couldn't wait that long to share the news. They were meeting with the clergy member who will be officiating the ceremony, so I think it's pretty real.

I'm still in a bit of shock myself, but ever so happy for them. Congrats again, you two lovebirds....

btw Dana, whenever you get around to reading this thread again. Were your baskeball obessed friends that we met from Iowa City?

My friend that is the cello and orchestra teacher in Davenport is taking a leave of absence from his job, and going to whichever university is in Iowa City for a PhD. The problem is that he needs to find dog-friendly accommodations. He's going to place the two puppies he has left, but his two older dogs he couldn't possibly give up. I was wondering if you knew anyone that could help.

I think I'll deal with the engagement shock after I get over the dating thing. I'm not sure I'm strong enough to handle both. Come to think of it, maybe I should do it the other way around. You know, get the big one out of the way first, like ripping off a bandaid. <represses memory>.....<done>

So, congratulations you two on getting engaged. The reflected joy I get from this is going to have me dancing through the weekend. Let us all know if you decide to start dating.

Seriously, how long is this engagement going to be?

A couple months, a couple years, a couple hours?

We need time to plan things here.

We need to arrange a Hatrack Bridal Shower.

We need to arrange a Hatrack Bachelor Party.

Banana pointed out in an earlier thread, you could be Man and Wife by Saturday. That would be SOOOOooooooo unfair. We need time to spoil our most creative couple.

Produced an immense grin that is, of course, impossible to really explain to colleagues here. (The fact that I am a romantic deep inside is a secret that Diane helps me keep.) [Smile]

You know... Hatrack is basically your built-in wedding planner. You have a photographer in Mack, invitation designers in Annie and the other Jatraquero artists, plenty of food planners, and any number of other duties. But, perhaps that's just a little too much for now. Plenty of time for details to come.

Okay, all kidding aside, the wedding will be April 2, 2005, in Ames, IA. And if you’ve been around Hatrack enough to consider yourself a friend to either or both of us, we’d like to have you there. We won’t be sending out formal invitations for a few months, and we’ll need addresses and such, but we can work out the details later. Mark your calendars now. (You can consider this your “reserve the date” card [Wink] )

It just isn't a party without baba ganoush...

There is a new Morroccan restaurant near us, and I had some of their baba ganoush at party they catered. It was SOO good. Lots of garlic, and maybe a HINT of mint? There was a taste I couldn't quite place.

I hope planning the food for the wedding after-party that hasn't even been planned by the bride and groom isn't considered thread derailment...

So is this being held in your hometown? Are we going to be overwhelm the locals? Will we outnumber them? (For that matter, will we outnumber the kinfolks at the wedding?)

We're trying to NOT worry too much about "sides" in the church, but Dana's extended family is huge and many (but not all) are within easy travel distance, whereas my extended family is small and unlikely to travel there.

So, plenty of seating on one side, crowded on the other.

Or, just come in and sit anywhere.

Kristine...thanks! It really is a great community and as we've found, one that is both difficult to explain to others, but easy as well.

For example, it's not really correct to say simply "we met online" because that implies so many ominous things in today's society. Or people think it's a dating service and they ask how much you charge and whether there's streaming audio.

But when we say it like "we met through a discussion group" or "it's an online community" people may not know what it means but they at least don't come away with the completely wrong impression.

What more can I say but thanks to our hosts & moderators for letting us use your living room. I hope we can make it worth your time, money and effort.

Okay, I can't stand it anymore!

Hi, all..........I'm Kris, a friend of Dana's. [Smile] She sent me the link of this thread to read and I've been lurking. [Blushing]

I just had to tell you all I had the privilege of meeting Bob last weekend and WOW what a guy! He scored big brownie points when he heard that I am a daycare provider said, "Oh, do you own your own business?" [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Maybe a small distinction to some, but a BIG issue to me. PLUS he didn't even mind when my team beat his at Scene-It. [Cool]

Anyway, your last post is what made me register and speak up, Bob.......I also am part of an "ONLINE COMMUNITY" of childcare providers and so I totally DO understand. I even posted over there about you two. [Smile]

Welcome in advance to the Great Corn State........ I am a transplant to this state myself, and I can testify that you will love it here. [Smile]

quote:
Cornfields, it turns out, are dangerous places. In Iowa alone there are over sixty corn-related car accidents each year. It seems that when the corn gets as high as an elephant's eye - sorry, that's Oklahoma I'm thinking of - I mean, when it gets tall it blocks the driver's view, causing them to mistake the cornfield for the state fair so they start playing bumper cars. Of course it could be that they just turned a little too much of their crop into corn liquor.
