I agree with saxon75, btw. I think we should be reducing nuclear stockpiles and the nuclear threat in general.

Well, no one except Ronald Reagan appeared to actually believe that the Star Wars project was going to stop RUSSIAN missiles. Heck, even the last time Republicans sold the shield to the public, they had stopped pretending that it was going to defend us from Russia or China; it was supposed to be a shield against one or two missiles fired from a "rogue nation," not anything remotely sophisticated.
It's hard for me to believe that anyone actually thought our "missile shield" was in fact intended to work as anything but a giant-sized bluff and defense grant.
