As I already announced, I got home from my mission a little over a week ago, and in the last week I've had loads of time to think. I also began reading Ender's Game again. Those two things put together have given me a new perspective on the book. And yes, it has to do with LDS missions. There seems to me many similarities between the two. For example, before a mission you have to prepare a lot and be worthy to go. The Battle school watches you to make sure that you are talented enough or "worthy" enough to go. You also leave for battle school at a very young age. Now, while missionaries don't leave when they're six years old, I know many people think that 19 year olds are much too young to be preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Then they actually get to battle school and the similarities seem endless. Let's begin with the whole mission structure. In a mission you have zones each with a zone leader. In a zone you have 3-4 districts, each with a district leader. In Ender's Game you have armies with commanders and toons with toon leaders. In both worlds although girls do participate, there isn't nearly as many as there are boys. In battle school all they seem to think about is the game. They don't even talk about home. On a mission, although you do talk about home, you don't have much time to think about it because you have other things to think about. And finally, the whole point of the battle school is so the kids can save the world physically. Missionaries go to save the world spiritually. Now I know some of you will read this and probably say that you can find similarities in just about anything. I realize this. I just wanted to give you my new perspective on Ender's Game.

I never thought of Ender's Game that way, but makes sense that what you have been deeply engaged in the last two years would strongly influence your perspective.

I knew a lot of missionaries that would have liked to kill their zone leaders.
