I know this has come up before here but now I can't remember. Are there any freeware programs that will capture an audio bitstream and save it as an Mp3?

What type of bitstream? Like streaming MP3's or what?

I assume it is I guess. The method is recieving a small .asf file I think, and then streaming it in. It's defaintly compatiable with Windows Media (seeing as how that's what I'm using) but of course that doesn't make it Mp3.

I downloaded it but I can't figure it out. I guess what I'm trying to capture are actually .asx files, not .asf I couldn't find anything in the help files about capturing streams either.

[Dont Know]

I don't know if I've used that particular piece of software, but what you want is something that will record whatever gets sent to your sound card. That way it doesn't have to know how to decode anything -- it just intercepts the sounds and saves them as a .wav file.

If you go to www.etree.org, there are all sorts of programs to download, and directions for doing so.
