I am going to a music festival in Silk Hope, NC.(near Siler City?)(in the north?)

Last year, there was a massive mud and tick problem. We will be camping, but after hearing more and more, I may get a hotel room for two nights. We are bringing the kids, who love to camp, but will freak if they get ticks. I figure we can set up a base camp for the day so the kids can come back and nap or get out of the (hopefully no) rain, then head back to the hotel for showers and regrouping. Or even crash there at night if we need to.

Last year, it was a major mudfest. Has it rained a lot there lately? Is it a dry or wet spring so far? The festival goes from Thursday thru Sunday, and I don't trust the national weather stations, because they just don't have that local knowledge.

If anyone lives near there, come on over! It should be a blast. Great music, friendly people, and good food. My son is looking forward to eating alligator again.(ugh)

Here is the website if anyone is interested:

Patti Loveless, Del McCoury, and this band I kind of like a little bit, Donna the Buffalo, will be there.

So, thanks in advance for any tick, chigger, or weather tips. I do not know this area AT ALL. Is it in the mountains?

Liz

The weather has been remarkably nice here of lates... sunny and 70 degrees in Greensboro, today.

Rain lately has been relatively light, so mud probably won't be a problem for ya. For the ticks and skeeters, get some good bug repellant with DEET and that should work. Also, always wear a cap if you're out in the sticks.

If you do get a tick, coat it liberally with vaseline and it will back out, making removal much easier and safer.

Oh, lord, I don't think I could wait that long for it to come out, Sopwith! Eeeeew.

How far are you from there? Can you come? Can ya, can ya??? The Campbell Brothers are going to be there. Sacred pedal steel gospel-blues-rock straight from "the big guy." They are so incredible.

So just come for Saturday or Sunday! Bring your homework. We will have a campsite of some sort if you need to rest from the music/activity.

Ha! I thought so, Sarahdipity! So, who are your friends going to see in particular? Or are they in North Carolina already?

My friends are going to see the show? hahaha So one of them is originally from that area so I think she's going to head down there spend some time with her family and go to the show.
