I just received Kill Bill: Vol 1 on DVD today. Despite some of the needless blood and gore its non stop action and unexpected twist at the end was worth it. Can't wait for Vol 2.

Huh. I never saw it. I can't get the idea that it's just a video game plot turned into a movie. Different sub-bosses leading up to one big boss. It's like Kung Fu.
Should I bother? Seems like Ninja Scroll did it already, no?

It's meant to be a takeoff of those genres. I think it's definitely worth seeing. It's not about the plotline so much as it's about seeing the very stylish way the movie is put together, the way that the music blends with the images onscreen... The things that are going on in the background of the movie and the way the story is told. Mmmmmm.... I liked that movie.

Okay, so no, then, I shouldn't see it. To me, movies like that are a waste of good theater space.
Watching a movie like that is, to me, like reading a book because the font is pretty and the pages are glossy. Why bother?

It's also well-acted. It felt like it breathed life into an old-type story. I'd say that people who like movies in that genre are the ones that would like it. So if you're a big fan of Hong Kong cinema or Blaxploitation or Anime, you really should give it a look.

I am a fan of anime. But the Akira/Princess Mononoke kind.
As for movies, give me The Game, Usual Suspects, or Memento before you give me a bunch of special effects and action sequences with no point.
S'why I liked The Matrix and loathed The Matrix Reloaded.

I don't know...the comparison could easily go the other way. Why not say the movie is like Shakespeare? Everyone knows that Romeo & Juliet are going to die; his telling of the same old story is so well-constructed that we watch anyway.
Not to compare him to Tarantino or anything. Just that I don't consider acting, directing, editing, composition, choreography, etc. to be "gloss."

From what I understand, all the 'point' that many seem to be missing from Vol. 1 is fully explored in Volume 2, which appears to be much less about fights, and more about exploring the Bride's history and deeper motivations.

Everyone knows Romeo and Juliet are going to die? On first reading? That seems a bit much.
Still, though, I'd take Hamlet, Midsummer or Tempest over R&J any day of the week.
I'd certainly take any of them (except for maybe As You Like It) over something like Independence Day or the Fifth Element.

It's taken in the context of when it was written. Romeo and Juliet was a well-known story at the time that Shakespeare wrote it. Everyone knew what was going to become of the two of them, but it was well written, so they saw it.
As for Equilibrium, it's worth watching. It reminded me somewhat of The Matrix, but was really more like Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 all mixed.
