I want to have a Hatrack Picnic here in Western Mass this summer. It seems that a lot of the get-togethers are held near Metro areas, and while I understand why, I would like to have one here where it won't cost an arm and a leg for those of us who live here in Western Mass.

I think that Look Park in Northampton, Ma is a great park. It has mini-train rides for kids, and a water park. Also, tennis courts, rollerblading, paddle boats, bumper boats, and lots of room for a ball game or frisbee. It has a stream running through it, and it's cheap to get into, but it gets very busy so we should make a reservation for two sites close together.

I am willing to make some of the arrangements, but it won't just be Hatrackers....friends and family are always welcome. We can hit Cosco and stock up on some food, but make it a potluck-style event.

Any one interested? I was suprised how many of us there are in this neck of the woods, but anyone who can make it is welcome, of course....

And maybe we can get a few new recruits....but no singing "hari-krishna" until AFTER I have drugged the kool-aid, ok? [Evil]

This is still very much in the planning stages, so any ideas will be welcome.

If you set it up closer to the middle of August, we will have a Polish contingent that might be able to make it out to Western MA.

The dates are still very much up in the air, so it's a possibility.

Who else is interested? Come on, you were all chattering away at me last night, so I post this, and then it's just me and the crickets....::chirp::

::Interested!::

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

I am interested! I can also help you with set-up, Kwea. Plus, there might be a good concert at the Pines Theater, if people were interested.

We could get Mack to run the range the following day if she had a sleepover.

My son's birthday is August 17th, but other than that, we should be home most of August.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Well, maybe I should make Myr help too, that way she won't get to play shy again.... [Taunt]

Well, I talked to the RI crew, or at least some of them, plus some of the Boston area hatrackers, and they seem to think this is a good idea.

I think Aug might be good; that way Suneun is done with her med boards, and schoolis still out for most people. I'll check the dates, and post the possibilities later. I don't expect to have a firm date until May, but we do need to figure out what our options are.

Elizabeth: I'd welcome the help, of course. I'll check the dates out with Look Park, and any other suggestions for locale, once we have heard from more people who are interested. May will give people plenty of time to plan, and the parks will be open by then, so I can call them and find out about costs and reservations. I really would like to get a covered area if possible in case of inclement weather. If we set this up, we are going to have it rain or shine....

I had a blast tonight, so I'm all for meeting other hatrackers..

Sure! Where in CT will you be this summer?

One of the places we are talking about using is in Northampton, MA. It's not far of I-91, probably about 20min north of Springfield, MA.

Most of the people who had gotten back to me say that Aug is better for them, but we don't have a date set yet.

When will you be in the area, Javert?

I like the idea of going to Six Flags, for anyone who couldn't make it for day one....and for anyone who stayed over, if anyone is doing so. That way no one has to drive back and forth all in one day, so maybe more people would be interested. Also, they has a great water park for kids there, for anyone bringing their family....

What do you guys think?

Kwea

Posted by Javert (Member # 3076) on :

Kwea, would it be completely out of the question to get y'all to drive down to the Lake? You'd certainly all be welcome.

Posted by Paul Goldner (Member # 1910) on :

I can make it after august 6th, before labor day, and not the weekend of august 19th. I know thats fairly limiting, but thats when I'm around. If it happens, I'll also be dragging my brother.

Weekend of the 19th I've got set aside for a friends wedding, so... yeah. Wedding of good friend sorta wins over other random get togethers in the forgotten lands [Smile]

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Javert: No, I'm not stealing your idea, I'm talking about in addition to the trip to the Lake...

We already had the idea for the WMASS Picnic, this is just an add-on idea to encourage people to stick around another day.

Plus, a lot of people live right next to (or close by) Six Flags, so it seemed like a good idea.

Didn't you ask about the Picnic? You'd be welcome too, for both days, or only one if that's all you could make it to....

Kwea

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Soooooo, now that at least SOME people are out of school...

What seems to be the best time frame for this picnic thing?

I want to have it in Aug, as most of the people who have replied have said that was a good time for them. Also, there is a water park for kids at Look Park, and Aug is the perfect time to be there for it.

I am also up for any new suggestions regarding location.....I think a few people are planning to bring their kids, so keep that in mind. Look Park works for me, but if someone has a better idea, I am open to hearing it.

I think the second or third Sat or Sun would work out best for me, but I can get any day off if I need to (unless I end up switching jobs), but I think Sat would be better for most people. With Sun as a possible Six Flags trip for anyone interested in staying overnight.

What do you think?

August is better for us. July is music festival time. I am going out to Phoenix to see my folks some time in the first couple weeks of August. Probably around the 15th.

I totally vote for Look Park.

I'd love to go. I assume it would be on a weekend?

My B-day is on the 14th, so the weekend before and/or after is out, for me (I havn't looked at dates, TBH).

HI Myr! I have been looking for you for a while, but I'm not on as much as I was when I first got the computer. When I am on, I usually am playing City of Heroes, soooo....

Anyone else want to chime in on a date? I would prefer the 14th or 15th, but the 21st/22nd is a possibility. My dad's birthday is the 21st though. I planned on inviting my parents up from RI, so maybe the would work out good.

So the two most popular dates seem to be the weekend of the 14th and the weekend of the 21st.
Any other ideas?

Myr, would you mention this thread to Suneun and Mike, and Becca....well, to all of them...you know what I mean....lol
I want to make sure these dates would be OK for them as well. I'll talk to Bok when I see him on-line....if he ever was, that is... [Wink]

The 21st is best for me. We will be going to AZ to see my folks, so I think we will be back by then.

I also want to remind people of the Green River Music and Balloon Festival the weekend of July 17th(or somewhere thereabouts)I will definitely be there with my kids. Good music, and very kid friendly. I have never awakened in time for the morning balloon launch, but I hear it is absolutely amazing.

I'd just like to point out that KamaCon is in Chicago on the 13-15th, and after that I'm going to be staying with Bok the next week (which would include the weekend of 21-22, maybe)so, um, if he'd be going wherever the thing is, he could take me along. Er. Um.

By the way, Kwea, don't miss the Green River Festival on July 18th.(I think) Good music, and lots of family fun. Balloon launch in the AM off the river.

Edit for many typos.

Saturday is best for me, and I will be back by the 21st.

{I also hope to see Kwea and JeniWren at the Green River Festival. It is so beautiful to see the balloons, and the music will be phenomenal: The Campbell Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Jorma Kaukonen, Gillian Welch, some Zydeco bands, some local bands, all good. And, um, well, Donna the Buffalo! Yippee!

I will bring my kids to Look Park, will anyone else?

JenniK and I will be in RI for the weekend of June 18th, so we won't make it to the GRF, probably. If we can, we will, but probably not.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Aug, though.

Who thinks they will be there?

I hope: Martha, Kale, Bok, Elizbeth, Myr, Mike, Suneun, Becca, Kama, JenniK ( she is my wife, not JeniWren) and me; anyone else I am forgetting?

Anyone can come, it will be open to all. My family will be there from RI, and a lot of my local friends will be invited. Some of them will probably bring their kids, so I will try to get two picnic sites near the water park so they can cool off.

Kwea,
What if it rains? The pavilions are really expensive, and they will literally come over and kick you out of them, even if they are empty. The Look Park Police have gotten friendlier over the years, but they are still a bit militant.

I could bring our screenhouse. It is fairly easy to set up,and we could put it right over the picnic table.

Also, I will be bringing my kids(7 and 10). Anyone else?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

My sister-in-law will probrbly bring her kids, and if she isn't coming then Jenni and I will probably bring them anyway. They are fairly young, somewhere around ages 9, 8, and 6.

The tent sounds like a good idea, as we are having the picnic rain or shine at this point. I can always rent one at Talyor Rental as well in case we need more than one. I will look into the pavillions, but if they are as expensive as you say then I won't bother.

Anyone else planning on bringing kids? My mom and dad will probably be there, as it is my dad's birthday. We didn't have any plans, so i told them to come up and join us.

Kwea,
It just so happens that I had to take my kids to a Girl Scout Picnic today at Look Park. We set up day camp at sites 13 A, B, and C> Beautiful site right next to the river.(I was thinking of the Mackstress and her camera, which will be fixed by then)

Also, the small pavilions ar only 35 dollars! It was the biggies that were so expensive. There are still some open for August, I believe.

SUnday doen't really work well for Jenni and me, or most of the Boston/RI clump. Too bad,I would like to hear the Saw Doctors there, it is a pretty cool place for a concert.

I think getting a pavilion would be the way to go, but I would like a site near the water park for the kids. That way the kids can go back and forth themselves between the WP and the sites without walking too far.

I did have a site near the river once, and it is very pretty. If we can't get a site near the WP then I'll probably get one near the river.

Thanks for the heads-up on the sites though. I plan on going up there this Monday, or maybe on Thursday right before i leave for Michigan for our vacation.

Anyone know how far is the drive from Baltimore? Is there an address for the park so I could Mapquest it?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Yeah, it is about 7 hours or so. If you wanted to make it an overnight trip there are some very inexpensive hotels/motels along the rout 5 corridor, about 15 min from the park, that are clean and well maintained. Knights Inn is about $55 a night, and there are a number of others from that price up. Also, Six Flags New England is in Agawam ( a nearby town), so if you like amusment parks you could do that on Sunday.

Boston is about 1 1/2 hours away as well, and you would be passing right by NYC as well. God knows that there are plenty of things to do there.

I am going up to Look Park right now, and I'll post the info when I get back.

Here's the web site for it again....I think the address is right there on it. Also, I will be posting simple directions as we get close to the date.

OK, we have a site for the picnic.

Elizabeth, who told you the small pavilions are $35? Shoot them before they lie to you again. Try $185 on the weekend.

So Jenni and I went to Look Park this afternoon, and we had a blast looking at sites and playing mini-golf. We talked to the girls behind the desk, and we payed for the site today, so the picnic is a go for August 21ST! We got site 15, with 4 tables that hold 10 each, and 2 grills.

The site is on a small island that they call Potato Island, and it is right behind the water park and the store, and right next to a volleyball court, a playground set, and bathrooms.

Across the street is a HUGE open field where we can play Frisbee and fly kites, and play wiffleball or kickball with the kids. A short walk away is a small zoo and the train ride for the kids, and tennis courts.

Also, there is a small mini-golf course; not a great one, but 18 small holes.

Potato Island has 2 small foot bridges for access, and is surrounded by the river, one side by the fast moving water that all the kids like to play in. Very pretty, and shady too.

I asked about the pavilions, but they were outrageous; but we are allowed to put up tarps and tents if the weather won't cooperate.

It is $4 to enter the park, per car. You get a sticker, so you can leave and re-enter at will all day long.

Nice job. Did you get the site with the grill that looks like a fireplace? That one was next to site 13A,B,C.

I thought that 35 dollar price sounded WAY off, even for a weekday. Ah, well. I will bring the screenhouse. I will not be able to be thre until after one, though, as I just found out the kids have a library party that morning.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

It is near that, but I didn't look at the grills to tell you the truth, because there was a large family picnic at that site. It might be, as it's in that area. I just saw where 15 a,b,c &d was, and the area it was in, and took a look at the other sires that were still available.....15 ABCD is the best one, so we payed for it today...that way it is all taken care of, and we can't forget to send the money or anything else stupid like that... [Razz] Also, I'm glad that you are going to be here, but I refuse to re-name the picnic in honor of you. Just because you have one named for you in Chicago doesn't mean that we will coddle to you here in MA.... [Taunt]

I'm not sure you will want your children to see such sights, Elizabeth, it might warp their fragile little minds past repair...

Javert and sarahdipidy said they could come as well, I believe.

Dragon asked about it, but she has been pretty busy with Smirkus, and hasn't mentiond if she will be here.

As far as my family, my parents and sister, neice and brother-in-law will be there, and some of my in-laws from Jenni's family will be there as well. Charlotte and the three evil ones (2 neices and a nephew).

I have told a few of our friends, and some of the prople from our wedding party will be there as well.

My sister and her 3 kids, my mom, maybe my dad (questionable), my 3 best friends, and some strange relations may show up too. It sounds like it's gonna be a lot fo fun. [Party] I can't wait to meet people that I only know by unique names. For those of you who confuse me with JeniWren... that is my tribal name because I love to sing, and pretty much sing all the time, everywhere; but we are 2 very seperate people here at the River....and I don't share my toys, so I definately wouldn't share my Kwea! So if people need a place to stay my landlady runs a bed and breakfast. I think she charges about 70 a night. If you're thinking of staying in Amherst you won't find a room too much cheaper. And you get breakfast and a nicer place to stay. I know Kwea mentioned the Knight hotel but I dunno much about it. I just thought I'd mention the idea for those who aren't strapped for cash. If anyone's interested let me know. I should have a website up for her soon but it's not ready yet.

Papa, that would have been great, but I understand that it is a long way. Where do you folks live again?

Too bad, I would have loved to meet you IRL....even if I did duck my first Landmark on you... [Big Grin]

There are quite a few places to stay in the W.Spfld area that are all about $50-70 a night. The route 5 coridor is filled with them, and it's only 20 min from the park. I go right past there, so anyone needing a guide could follow me down.

Myr, I would recommend staying over if you can at all. If I have the day off, perhaps we could go to Six Flags on Sunday....but I doubt I will, as I am taking Sat off for the picnic. Still, maybe others would like to go....

The bed and breakfast thing is a lot of fun if you have never done it before, and $70 isn't a ton of cash for one if you can afford it. Also, there are some campgrounds around here, not too far away I think. I know there is one in Agawam, and some in Southwick, but I don't know the names of them. Does anyone else from here know any in case some people want to stay over?

I can't wait, this is going to be so much fun.

And Myr, we would set you a place at the kiddie table, but you are just too damn tall!

Oooh guess what, Kwea? I found an incredible looking coffee/chocolate store in Northampton I really really want to visit. It's called "Culinary Specialties Coffee Gallery" on King Street.

I definitely want to go that day. Hey Miiiike! Doesn't this look awesome?

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Dabbler,
Forget that place and go to Ben and Bills Chocolate Emporium. Their truffles are to die for. Another place is Sweetie's.
(I have not been to the place you mention, but feel compelled to push ben and Bill's)

I would offer our place as a sleepover place, but we have Aidan's b-day party the next day, so I can't.

Kwea mentioned some hotels, but thereis also Qualty Inn on Rte 9 in Hadley, about ten minutes from Look Park. Also, if you are staying, check out www.masslive.com for happenin's in the area.

Posted by dabbler (Member # 6443) on :

Seems likely we'll just make a day trip out of it. It's about a 2 hour drive for us. Not unreasonable for a day trip.

Does Ben and Bills have gourmet foreign chocolates? Mike's a gourmet choc freak and the one I linked to carries lots of european stuff. I'm looking for some cocoa nibs (the Whole Foods near my house stopped carrying it).

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

D,
They do all their own chocolate. There are three big vats of it in the window which make me drool just thinking about them. So, the other place is probably more your cup of, um, chocolate.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

I have stayed at the Quality Inn and it is really nice for one of those places. Pretty inexpensive, if I remember right.

Suneun, there are a ton of really cool places in Northampton...it is a really cool city. It's very liberal, and bills itself as the "the city that doesn't need men".. [Big Grin] There are a few really great used book stores there as well, including one that specialzes in fantasy/sicience fiction. I belive it is called "The Space/Time Continum....

It is a great place to walk around and see the sights, as long as you are tolerant of other lifestyles. I don't think that would be a problem, the only reason I mention it at all is that I failed to mention it once to visiters, adn they were freaked out by it a bit. Then again, they were older, more my parents friends than mine really.

I like NoHo a lot, but wouldn't want to live there myself...I am, after all, a guy... [Wink]

Kwea

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Also, the park is only 15-20 minutes away from downtown NoHo, so it is a really easy trip. Once you pay the $4 admission you can leave and come back as many times as you want to (for that day).

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Kwea,

Noho is really only Noho for the lesbian-friendly-liberal locals.(NFLL)

The real locals(as in generational locals) refer to Northampton as Hamp. If you want to be manly, just refer to the town as Hamp and you will be fine.

Elizabeth, do you know where that fantasy/sci fi book store is in Hamp? I have never been there, and have tried to find it a couple of times with no sucess. I just found out the name of it a few weeks ago, but i have been hearing about it for years. I want to go there, just to browse....but not on the day of the picnic, or I might never make it to Look Park...lol

19 days...

Elizabeth, Donna the Buffalo (and about 15 other groups) are playing somewhere near Westerly, RI on Labor Day weekend. Jenni and I were at the beach ( [Big Grin] ) this weekend and I saw a poster about it.

My parents live down there, and we will probably be there for Labor Day weekend, unless I am working. I doubt we will make the concert, but we will be in Westerly....

14 more days!

I need to start a list this week for things that we need...so we don't all bring the same stuff.

Jenni will probably make some cookies, and I am buying a box of burgers and a box of hot dogs. We also have some chicken because a friend of ours is allergic to red meat. i will also bring buns and condiments...or at least ketsup and mustard.

That won't be enough for everyone though....so let me know what you would like to bring, and I'll post it here.

Kwea,
That is the Rhythm and Roots festival. You should come for a day. Lots of different roots music, and DtB is the host band. If you like to dance at all, there are some serious zydeco dancers who go there with their polka dot skirts and little black boots. It is fun to watch while I do my usual head-bob.

We say we are going for just one day, but I am sure we will go all three. Saturday is the best line-up for me.

It is a very well run festival, with good food, but it is expensive. They sell beer and wine there, also expensive, and you cannot bring it in.

It would be fun if you came!

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

It depends on what our work schedual is...I know we both have Monday of, but I won't know about Saturday or Sunday for a while.

We were planning on being down in Westerly that weekend anyway, to see my parents and my dog.

Not neccessarily in that order... [Big Grin]

Ooooo, the rhythm and roots festival is half an hour from me. I should look into that [Smile]

Hmmm... what kinds of things will we need? Soda, pasta salads, hamburgers?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

All that would work. I wouldn't bring anything that needs heated, as I am not sure there is electricity at the sites. I pretty sure there isn't, as a matter of fact.

We also need people to bring coolers to keep the soda and meats cold until we drink/cook them.

Also, if anyone has dietary restrictions please let us know, or arrange to bring stuff for yourself. We have a guest who can't eat red meats so she is brining some chicken, but if there is anyone else who wants some they either have to let me know or tell me they are bringing some themselves.

We need:
Booze is BYOB...
JenniK will have some cake for my dad's birthday, and she is making cookies, probably peanut butter with kisses on top....mmy favorite!

Anything else?

Oh yeah....trash bags and plates; we will bring some, but probably not enough for everyone.

Please post here and let me know what (if anything) you are planning on bringing, and I will compile a list and post it a few days before the picnic.

Thanks!

Kwea

Kwea,
I am off to AZ for a week. When I get back I will look at the list and see what is still needed.
Liz

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Thanks Liz, we should get together and plan a bit too, if we can find the time this before the picnic.

You said you might not be there until a bit later, right? If that is true we might need to meet up to get the screen tent you said you had and to set it up at the site. I will be checking the weather regularly, but rain or shine we are going to be there, unless it would be dangerous.

I plan on going with a griend ro three at about 9:30-10 am EST to get started, and quite a few (10-25) people plan on being there at or around noontime, so I geuss we will be cooking both lunch and dinner.

I will bring a Frisbee, and wiffle ball, and if anyone has any kickball/dodgeballs for the kids perhaps they could bring them too.

Bring your bathing suits as well, if it is really hot the water park is right next to us, so it might be fun to take the kids there and cool off ourselves... [Big Grin] Super Soakers are mandatory... [Evil] Remember, an armed society is a polite society.... [Big Grin]

I guess they aren't so boring after all, huh?

Anyone else?

If you don't have time to bring something don't worry about it.

Oh and I'll bring something. But I dunno what.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Rain or shine, for sure. I have heard two different forecast, one said it would be muggy with a chance of showers, one said scattered showers. It is still far enough away that they might be wrong, though.

Once everyone gets there, if it becomes really rainy, I guess we could find another, indoor, place to gather. There are plenty of little restarunts to eat at, movie theatres, that sort of thing, in nearby towns.

I am hoping it diesn't come to that though.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Kwea

OK, Jenni and I bought the following stuff for the picnic....
We also have some folding chairs, and a beach blanket or two....
My Mom is making Homamade brownies, my sister is bringing a cooler (I have one, and my parents have one as well) and buns, both hot dog and burger buns.

Myr said she will bring snacks and some paper plates or silverware. I will hit the dollar store and get some extras as well.

The site is payed for, and if you can't find it look for the info shack at the beginning of the park, by the tennis courts, and ask for the site of the "Hatrack/Brill" picnic reservation. We are behind the water park off a bit to the right of it, over the covered bridge.

Could I please have an updated list of who will be there? And, if you know, about what time you will arrive?

Thanks!

Suneun, you were going to perform with Mike, right? Any chance you could "remind" him of the picnic, and harrangue him like I did you? [Big Grin]

Lets see..

Beca said she couldn't come (see a page before I think). I believe Martha's busy but I don't see her online much (silly me). Mike has a trapeze class in the morning of Saturday.

We're going to do a long practice and street perform on Sunday (if we can find a good spot).

So afaik, either Mike and I will drive up after his class on Saturday (leaving providence around lunchtime), or I will go with Kris and Mike won't go.

You can bother Mike if you'd like, I'll get a more certain answer from him later.

It seems like the forecast for Sat is scattered T-storms, which isn't a good thing.... [Wall Bash] [Wall Bash] [Wall Bash]

But we will make due. Our site is under pretty decent cover, and there is a pavillion near by. I'm not sure if it is rented, but if it isn't maybe we can rent it for less than they wanted two months ago. One way of another the show is on. I am bringing some games, and some cards, but if anyone has a specific one they want to bring please do so.

I have Trivial Persuit (TV Edition), Chess, Yatzee, Parcheese, Monopoly, Othello, and LOTR Risk...and I play a mean hand of Rummey 500.... [Big Grin]

Also, scattered means the rain won't be continuous.

If anyone has any questions please contact me @ KweaSr@MSN.com and I will answer the best I can.

As I said, rain or shine we are doing it.

If the forecast gets worse, I MIGHT be able to find an indoor venue at a local Masonic hall, but I am not sure. I know there is one in 'Hamp, but I don't know anyone there myself, and I am not sure if it is booked yet. I will look into it, and let everyone know for sure.

But as long as I haven't posted anything here, it's a go for Look Park.

PS. My mom had a good idea,...she mentioned that with this many people coming it woudn't be too hard to take up a collection and pay for the pavillion, even if we don't manage to wiggle a better price out of them. I couldn't affor to front the money....it was somewhere around $160....not up front, by myself, but if there are 30-40 people there it would be under $5 per person. I don't know if that is an option, but it might work.

What do you all think?

Kris, is it okay if I tell you by tomorrow night if I need a ride? It's pretty 50/50 if Mike's coming along, but if he comes I'd wait for him to finish his trapeze class...

We might be ok. The forecast keeps changing, but all the changes have been for the better.

Now they are saying that it will be "intermittant" showers, which is much better than scattered thunderstorms....

Anyone else coming?

Kwea, what kind of burgers/hot dogs do you have? Generic?

I usually bake things for events, but it looks like you guys have loads of goodies already. I'm not so keen on pasta/potato salads, so I'm still not sure what I can make/bring.

I could be on soda duty, for example. But that sounds so boring! =)

Posted by mackillian (Member # 586) on :

I know! What should I bring? What other sorts of stuff do we need?

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

Suneun, whatever you want works for me! We still need soda, and any games you have that might be fun (in case of rain delays... [Big Grin] ).

We bought some Ballpark Franks, because they were on sale, and for burgers we went to COSTCO and bought the burgers there....I think we bught a big box of them.

If there are any salads or veggies you like, we are a bit lite on those too....

I am really glad that you are coming!

Mack: Your camera, of course, and you said you were bringing your fensing gear, right?

As far as food goes, we need...hell, look above.... [Big Grin]

Does anyone have dieatery issues i need to know about? Allergys, non-meat eaters (vegans and veggie people... [Big Grin] ), or anything like that?

Jenni just made PB cookies, and CC cookies.

They tasted great.

What? I had to "taste test" them, you know...nothing but the best for y'all... [Big Grin]

Great!

Jenni and I are going up thee at 10:30 am to set up with a few friends and family members.

I guess the party starts at 11 or so, but wuill be all day into the evening.

I will post directions later tonight....if you click on the linky on the first page I think Look Park has directions on its web site.

The weather looks like it might work out OK...it was suppose to be rainy today, but was beautiful (if a bit muggy) for most of the day.

Great news, Suneun, I was hoping Mike would come a well.

I'll post more later tonight.

Liz, are you back from AZ yet? If you are going to be late to the picnic I would like to get together and borrow your tent to set up early, if you don't mind...

Kwea

Mack, here are the directions.

We are in site 15 A,B,and C...right behind the picnic store and to the right of the water park.

When you get off 91, head straight across route 9, to the next lights.....that is route 5. Go straight past route 5 as well, and go to the end of the road. Look park is right there where the raod dead ends, but you have to go left then immedatly right to get in the entrance.

Once in the park you will get to a booth. It's $4 a car to enter, but once you are in you can xome and go as you want for the rest of the day.

You have to go to the right....it's a one-way street that runs through the park. Right by the tennis courts is an info shack if you have trouble finding the site.

Go past the lake and after the bend you go down past the paddle boats. Once you see the palying field on your left you are close to the site.

There is a picnic store on your right, with a parking lot right before it. That is the area you want to go to. Parking is busy sometimes, but we will have a cart for people to carry gear. Just come down to the site to get it.

I'll put us small signs. If you have to ask the info shack tell them it's the Brill/Hatrack picnic, on site 15 a,b, and c.

I can't wait, this is going to be so much fun!

Hi Guys and Gals,

I am back from AZ. It looks like rain. The screen house is a go if we need it, but I think the pavilion collection is the best idea. I also have a bunch of cheapo ponchos I can bring.

Since I just got back, I am unsure of what I am bringing, but after being in AZ, I am thinking something Mexicanish. I can bring my camp stove and a few things of propan if people want to boil or heat stuff. Just bring it in a pan, and bring a plastic bag to put the dirty pan in.

MMM. How about just some quesadillas? Yeah, that.

More tomorrow when I am more coherent.

Liz

Hi Liz! WB!

Sounds good to me, but the pavillion might not be necessary (or availible)...it was supose to rain all day today, and not a sprinkle was here. Same thing happened twice this week.

I think the weathermen see all the clouds coming from the hurricanes and forecast rain, but by the time it gets here there are just hazy clouds left.

I will try to keep an eye on it, but it's a crapshoot now.

One way or another, the picnic is on. Even if it rains, it will probably be a sprinkle, and won't last long at all....

I will chek on the pavillions tommorrow before work, though.

E-Mail me at KweaSr@msn.com , and I'll give you my phone number so we can talk tommorrow, OK?

Anyone can e-mail me if they want my cell # in case they are lost on the way....

Liz, you are bringing a cd player/radio, right?

Yes, I will bring a cd player.

I can improv pretty well, but I am rusty. I haven't palted in public (other than my wife) since I played form my Grandmas funeral, about 6 years ago.

Sarahdipity,
What/where is "C/S?" You are in Amherst, right? And I am going through all the dchools and am unable to think of a "C.S."

Everyone,
My husband has a bunch of extra live music cds and I will bring them and hand them out. All sorts of music, but mostly roots-rock, old time, and folksie stuff.

I was planning on losing weight for this event. In my usual procrastinating fashion, I now have a little over twenty-four hours to lose about fifty pounds.

Mack, I can give you directions from Route 2 if you want. not sure if Kwea would know those. What time are you coming? You ARE coming, right?

EDIT: Directions from Look Park's web site: http://www.lookpark.org/directions.html

EDIT2: I think the easiest (not shortest) way would be I-93 to I-495W to I-290 to I-90 (Mass. Pike), and then follow the directions above.

Bok,
Would you come Rte 2? Because you would not want to follow those directions.

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Yeah, I probably would, but that's because I have an Amherst native as my co-pilot (my fiancee [Smile] ). It'd be more direct for mack to take RTE. 2, but I don't know how easy it would be.

-Bok

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

Bok,
I think she could just go all the way to 91 and go down from there, but the route from Rte 2 to 202 to 9 is not that hard. Which would be faster, the Amherst way or the Greenfield way?

Posted by Bokonon (Member # 480) on :

Rte. 9 gets bogged down once you hit Amherst proper (and you have to know the area a bit, IMO)... I-91 may be the best, except the roads to get to it may be slow up in NH/VT.

-Bok

Posted by Elizabeth (Member # 5218) on :

True, Bok, and all the youngsters will start returning to town so Saturday will be a witch for traffic.

OK, so I think Rte 2 to 91 south to Exit 20, and then follow the Look Park directions.

I'm coming, I'm coming, don't worry. Nathan is with me, and my fencing gear. I'm thinking probably noon-ish, maybe closer to one. I don't want to get up at the ass crack of dawn. [Razz]

According to JenniK, who watched the weather report this morning, it is suppose to sprinkle in the morning, but clear up and be beautiful for the rest of the day.

It seems that most people (Liz, Mack and Nate, my family) so far are showing up after 1, but JenniK and I, along with some of our friends, will be setting up as early as 11 MA.

Liz, I didn't get the e-mail this morning/afternoon, and I am working at 1, at the Holyoke Mall JC Pennys, so I am leaving to get a haircut and then go straight to work.

I don't get out until about 10 PM, and I don't know if you want me to call you back that late.

Are you still planning on getting to the picnic at about 1 pm? I wanted to set up the tent before that, but I don't know how we could handle that...

Oh, heck, sorry Kwea.

I am trying to arrange to be there earlier so I can set up the screen house. Just have to do some shuffling of children.

10 might be too late. It might not. I am still on Arizona time, so I will probably crash earlier than usual.

Dagnabbit.

I am not bringing my son after all, due to an emergency birthday party. This will involve me bringing them both to the party early, coming to Look Park, and then leaving at about 4 or 5 to take my daughter to a sleepover.

Kwea, I will call you in the AM. We can set up the screen house, and if it is yucky weather, you can keep it, and I can come and get it at your house, or we could meet somewhere like Big Y on rte 33 in S. Hadley.

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

If you do that, I can always drive it up to you on Monday, or even this Sunday...I don't work until Tuesday.

We will be up at about 8:30 or ( AM, and are palnning on leaving the house at 9:45. i have to stop and get some ice and things, so I will be there at about 10:30.

I am bringing friends to help set it up, so if you have to drop it and run we can do it, and take it down...if it is needed at all.

Thanks!

Hey, for any of those who haven't left yet, is there any way you could bring and let me borrow a copy of your windows XP home cd?

No, I'm not burning it. Yes, I have a license.

Nathan broke my gateway. I can't find one of my system restore CDs (it would be the one with XP on it) and stupid gateway won't let me have a new one. They emailed me with "you'll have to buy a new copy of XP."

I already have a license for my current one! It's just broke!

Anyway, John said I can repair it legally with someone else's XP cd since I have a license and I'm just doing repairs, not a full install onto another computer.

So, if anyone could help, I'd be much obliged. [Smile]
