So I was browsing through photos on Foobonic (trying to match faces with screen names to prevent being embarassed) and I saw the one of you playing the horn. Is that in a true Drum & Bugle Corps? If so, which one?

I am a HUGE fan of DCI and follow all the Drum & Bugle competitions via web and when they Tour here locally.

It was a childhood dream of mine to play in a D&B corps, but never got to. So now I just live it out as an adult by being an ardent fan.

Heh, actually that was from oldschool High School Marching Band. (The Marching Raiders of Toms River East!) - played Mellophone for the marching season, and our crew dominated. I remember one highlight being a judges sheet with nothing but the words GREAT MELLOS!!!! scribbled across it.

DCIs are great, though. In fact, my favorite show that we did, Junior Year, was inspired by the Blue Devils' DCI-winning show in 1986 - Chick Corea Suite/Spanish Fantasy & Buddy Rich's Channel One Suite.

Good times. And an especially great show for the Mighty Mellos.

And for those not familiar with the DCI and the sheer power of Pure Brass & Percussion, check out this mp3 of possibly the greatest DCI performance EVER - if anything, at least the greatest ENDING ever. Blue Devils 86, baby.

Well, I played baritone horn all through high school and into college (KU Marching Band) where we had our own club "High Class Low Brass" -- had our own shirts and everything. It was so cool.

But it was nothing like what it must be like to be in a DCI corps. <sigh> Maybe in my next life....

Hey, FG, good plan with foobonics. You know if you're the last one to get to these gatherings, they make you guess who everyone is, right?

And at WenchCon, T_Smith had no idea who I was. [Grumble]

Noah did, though. [Cool]

Well, that's not exactly fair -- not everyone has photos on Foobonic!

*goes to compare KamaCon attendance list to Foobonic*

Of course -- what am I worried about? I'm a chronically early person -- so unless there is major vehicle problems, I will be the first there! (besides AJ, of course)

I'm happy to say that everyone I guessed was correct. I just chose not to guess on 3 hatrackers and, um, completely forgot that Steve existed. [Embarrassed]

Edit: I didn't say it was fair, that's just how it is.

But how can we guess right if celia looks just like Nathan?

I what?

[Confused]

(that only means you're very hot, silly)

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

That's easy -- celia only looks hot to guys, and Nathan only looks hot to girls...

So if I went in the room and someone there looks hot... it must be Nathan.. <grin>

Is Nato coming? (My daughter thinks he's hot)

edit: can't type worth crap today!

Farmgirl, you may be chronically early, but my flight gets in at 6ish. AM.

I'll be the one sleeping in the lobby when everyone else arrives . . . [Wink]
