Conway Springs woman clings to toilet and survives being carried away by storm

quote:
Instead, she remembers, she headed into a windowless bathroom, dropped to the floor and locked her arms around the most secure fixture around -- the toilet.

She held on as the computer in the next room exploded in the tornado's fury.

She held on as water lines snapped, shooting up water beneath her.

She felt herself being lifted.

Pretty good article

Wow!

quote:
Her injuries included cuts on her head that had to be closed with staples, three broken ribs, eye injuries, bruises and more stitched-up cuts, dotting her body.
OK, these are serious injuries and I wouldn't want to suffer them. But for being thrown a half mile, that's not bad. She must be one tough lady.

What I'm confused about, is whether the toilet *really* saved her life or not? Was the fact that she was holding on to it what kept her from flying further away? Sounds like the tornado did just as much damage as it would have w/o the toilet?

Toilets kill more people than they save each year. I propose we ban all toilets.

Yeah, Leonide, I thought the same thing when I read it -- obviously it didn't really save her because she got thrown 1/2 mile.

But it did give her something solid to hang on to for awhile... so apparently that meant a lot to her.

PSI, go right ahead. But start small. Ban them in your home, and then give us a report in six months.

Okay, Porter. But I'm going to need a chamber maid. I'd dress up in the little costume myself but I don't want to do the actual work.
