Just out of curiosity, who here had gotten rid of their landline phone? My cellphone plan has more minutes that I use, normally, and long-distance is free. I have cable-modem internet access, so I don't need a landline for that either. I cut the cord, so to speak, on my phone service 6 months ago and haven't regretted it yet.

Anyone else?

We're considering it when we move. But first we need to check out reception in the house. [Smile]

You're in my area - which service do you use?

Dagonee

I don't use either. No phones for BtL.

Edit: I can't belive I did that. I hate myself.

No land line here, only 2 cellphones 1 for me and 1 for the wife [Wink]

I would never get one.

Have you seen the commercials? The confusing, time-limited offers for bargains?

I refuse to respond to hard-cell tactics.

I'd LIKE to have a land line, cause my cell reception here sucks, but my roomates won't spring for it. So one phone for me.

Ni!

Landline for dialup. But soon I'll be moving to my parents' house, and while their landline(s) will remain, I'll be mostly using my cell.

(And they have broadband! Yippee!)

I had to make that decision last month when I moved into my apartment.

Cell Phone: it's with you whether or not you're at your apartment

Landline: no recharging, cheaper, no worrying about minutes, better sound quality

Though the sad part is, since I got a digital phone, when my cox cable modem goes down, my phone does too.

Dagonee, I use Sprint and rarely have reception problems. I'm planning a move to PA in the near future and my realtor there uses Sprint as well. She says she rarely has problems with reception there either.

No landline here either. SBC is more Evil than Walmart. We have a cable modem for internet access.

we have both land and cell phones. Our internet is DSL, so we have to have the landline.

My roomates and I nixed the landline a long time ago. We had one roomate who didn't want a landline in the first place so he refused to pay for it, but turned out he was the only one using it. [Grumble] He had to get a phone card to call home to Nepal after we trashed the landline.

My last roommate did the exact same thing. Got a cel phone, refused to pay any of the landline bill, and kept using it the entire time. Jee, I wonder why we aren't friends anymore?

Yeah Kat, this guy is still our roomate. I'm so glad I'm moving in less than a month.

Slacker and I got rid of our landline at the beginning of the year (we've got cable internet) and it's worked well so far. [Smile]

I got a whole lot of dept. of transportation surveys and a few wrong numbers on my landline. However, the kicker, was this:

Me: Hello?
Very Drunk Old Man: HOWRE YOU?
Me: What?
Very Drunk Old Man: HOWRE YOU? HEY, I NEED TO GET TO SOUTH LAMAR.
Me: *hangs up phone, pulls out cord, immediately locks the door*

yep, I am cell phone only. I have a cable modem, so I don't need a land line for internet, so I got rid of my landline a year ago.

i have never owned a cellphone.

no one can ever reach me except through other people. it's fabulous.

My family has a cell they use as their portable home phone, and I have my own cell.

My cell phone is much less expensive than my landline was, but the real reason I don't have a landline is that when I tried to switch providers I started getting bills from both...

I haven't gotten a cell phone yet. I make phone calls only when I can't avoid it, and I don't care for people to be able to reach me that easily. The only times I've wanted one were for the occasional road trip, but so far I've survived without one.

And I get by just fine with my dialup Internet connection at home. So nyah. [Taunt]

I only have a cell phone as well. I never used my dorm room's phone when I lived there, and before that I rarely used the home phone at my parents' house. I use my cell a lot more, but not nearly enough to worry about running over my minutes.

You only think you're fine with it 'cause you don't have cable yet, you poor, ignorant dialup user. I pity you. [Frown]
