Edited to remove dobie-ish title.
Really!

Leads Named for Spamalot

quote:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - David Hyde Pierce, Tim Curry and Hank Azaria were named on Wednesday as the leading trio for next year's Broadway-bound production of Monty Python's "Spamalot."

"Spamalot," to be directed by Oscar and Tony Award winner Mike Nichols, is billed as "the musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture, 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail,"' the 1975 comedy directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones.

And there was great rejoicing...

[Embarrassed]

But on the other hand, Dana, don't you think the musical deserves its own thread?

Yeah, it does. I was just being snotty.

Bob sent me the article this morning. Midwest Hatrack outing, anyone?

Plots within plots, links within links! Muhahaha!

Dana,

I didn't take it as snotty at all. Shoulda put a smiley in. [Smile]

I wonder when tickets will go on sale for this. I imagine the show will sell out here in Chicago in record time. Then there's the issue of the price...

Diane and I would probably be up for going in January. We'll be off visiting relatives around Christmas time.

"Snooty" maybe would have been a better word. [Smile]

On a related note, this sounds like fun:

quote:
And Now, For Something Completely Tolkien:
Monty Sauron's Flying Nazgûl

An extremely loose - indeed, positively runny - tribute to "Lord of the Rings" as seen through the fractured lens of famed "Monty Python" sketches. See the famed "Dead Hobbit" sketch. Thrill to the wholly unexpected Sauron Inquisition. And just how can you tell that Aragorn is the king...?

I *will* see this show. Even if I have to go to New York to do it (that is, if Chicago sells out before I can get my tickets). It looks utterly fantastic.

There's some stuff at the Monty Python website about Spamalot -- an interview with Eric Idle, and a couple online diary entries by him about the show:

Hey when is it starting? I'll be in NYC around Thanksgiving...

Spamalot opens December 21 in Chicago and runs through January 16.

Other shows playing this season include Richard Chamberlain in Scrooge, Sandy Duncan in The King and I, Mamma Mia, Evita, Oklahoma and Wicked (which from the little bit on Broadway in Chicago's website looks to be an adaptation of the Gregory Maguire novel).

I could go so broke this year just on stage shows......

Goody, I saw a bit of Wicked, and while I heard that the peole on TV during the tonys didn't do well compared to the show, it was SOOO bad that I will never go to see it.

Ever.

Too bad, because I liked the idea.

Maybe I'll try the book.

Thanks for the warning, Kwea. And I really really enjoyed the book, thought it was the best of the ones he wrote. "course I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Wizard of Oz =)

It's not really fair to down a musical you've never seen, is it? They chose a bad number to showcase the feel of the show for the Tony's. What they were trying to do was give both Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda) and Idina Menzel (The Wicked Witch) screen/stage time, because they are essentially the two main characters in the show.

The musical is good. Entertaining, funny, colorful, and Idina and Kristin are phenomenal in their roles. As someone who has seen more than her share of Broadway musicals, I recommend it without reservation.

Both the book and the musical are worth the money to read/see them.

I just finished reading the book last night... it was amazing, it was really really good. Now I desperately want to see the Broadway musical!
