This is VERY random. The old song "Que sera sera" sung by Doris Day in the movie "The Man Who Knew Too Much" is that French? I've heard that it's French or Spanish. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. (Before anyone cracks wise about the "random"ness of this, I did post it on the "Random" thread as well. [Smile]

Spanish.

Are you 100% on this?

It's Spanish

What will be, will be

Actually.... it appears to be kind of both.

We learned it as French with messed up pronunciation. So... I'd say Sprench.

Says Spanish
Also says Spanish

A debate on the subject

This is the same problem I've run into. I have a multi-lingual friend who's taught high school Spanish for years. I also have a friend who speaks French & a few other languages. One said French, one said Spanish (not in that order). This thread has proven trickier than I expected. I am leaning towards Spanish now, though. When I ran it through several internet translators, I got Spanish frequently, but a better interpretation in French. Thanks for all the input.

Qué Será Será : Spanish
Que Sera Sera : French

Either way, the final words are NOT correctly pronounced 'Sir-ahh'. SO I think the Franish, or Sprench ascertation may be more accurate [Wink]

*cough* One of my links DID mention that Doris Day said it was Spanish. Shouldn't she have the final word?

I mean, being dead and all . . .

O.K. - I've got another question (again random). Does anyone know the bible verse that speaks against getting tattoos? I can't remember where it is.

Hats off to Rivka for excellent research!!! I apologize for not giving you special mention earlier. But, I was very impressed with the links. [Hat]

Another side question for rivka only - are you Jewish? A friend of mine in college was & she told me her twin sister's Hebrew name was Rivka. Just curious.

If you can give me a key word that you might remember from it, I can do a search for it on lds.org

Just because Doris Day sang the song doesn't make her an expert on the song. Who wrote it? They would be the expert.

Posted by PickleDMD (Member # 754) on :

I believe it mentions "ink". I'm not sure about "skin" or "body" but they could also be in the verse.

Posted by Taalcon (Member # 839) on :

Looks like it was written by Jay Livingston & Ray Evans.

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

mph, I believe Doris Day also co-wrote it. (Ok, shot down by the post above. [Wink] Had creative input, perhaps?)

Pickle, you are welcome. [Smile] Yes, I am Jewish. And I think I can find that tattoo verse -- give me a few minutes.

Leviticus 19:28

What do I win? [Wink]

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

You win! I only just now checked back.

Edit: Wow. The word "skin" appears in the Old Testament a lot. I would not have been able to find that scripture with those words alone. And I wasn't familiar enough with it myself.

My undying gratitude & humble respect. That sound o.k.?

Posted by rivka (Member # 4859) on :

Undying? COOL! Can we get that written somewhere, permanent-like? [Big Grin]

*extends arm, thinks better of it, goes to find paper*

Truly, thanks to all! The Hatrack community never fails to impress me. The verse from Leviticus was a bonus I hadn't planned on tonight. I've got to commend everyone on their effort, resourcefulness, & speed. Thank you.

Thanks Rivka, you're a treasure! [Kiss]

Rivka:

Not yet, I hope. You must be thinking of Rock Hudson.

Oops.

Come to think of it, I may have seen her on the tube promoting her animal rescue place.

Sorry, Ms. Day!
