While doing my normal morning scan of slashdot *work* I saw something amazingly wonderful for me. I have always had an interest in quantum physics and the application of quantum computing, so this article caught my eye immediatly. These people are actually able to use normal transistors --everyday silicon techonology-- to monitor and control the electron spins of individual atoms. No more imagining that we need some unheard of super-heavy elements to even pretend to make a quantum computer. Personally, I can't wait to get my own.

Slashdot makes me hopeful about the future. It's one of my two primary news sources--the other is NPR. I'm so tired of "people problems" that I try to minimize my noncritical news intake.

Slashdot deals with the things I care about, and I often get the "cool news" weeks or months before I see it somewhere else. One part libertarianism, one part TomsHardware, and three parts Popular Science. [Big Grin]

Hehehe, that's what happens when you're at work with nothing to do.
