I tried OSC's poetry site at 1:30 am (PST) on Sunday morning and I get this cryptic message:

Int3rc3pt0r Brazilian Team

I hope it isn't being hacked. [Frown]

Too bad Leto's not around anymore. He would go medieval on them.

Yeah, that would be from a hack. Leto's strictly in the amateur leagues compared to that group, if they were who did the hack, but I'm sure a lot of people use their name to throw people off because they are so well known.

I'm not sure hackers are lame though, a tad annoying, but if you give them a chance to show off how much better they are, they're really curtious, actually...beloit got hacked a few weeks ago in the competition for 6000 servers, we emailed the hackers, and they actually fixed the bugged file for us [Razz] .

hehe...great timing, no?

Yeah, I'd be all about that, Insanity.

"Hey, you just hacked our system. Please put it back."
"Sure. Don't stop us while we do some stuff."

"Okay, everything's back to normal now, see?"
"Wow! What nice boys."

*chuckle*

Usually hacks are just exploiting known vulnerabilities and do no damage beyond defacement (not even file deletion). While its a childish activity, its not a particularly mean or evil activity. In fact, its pretty common for the hacker to patch the route he or she went in through, since the whole point was the challenge and the counting coup; the hole is no longer a challenge if unpatched, and someone else might do the hack if its left as is.

Also, because they do so often just exploit known vulnerabilities, while the fault for the hack definitely resides with the hacker, the fault for making the site a target is almost all in the server admins/web admins.

Actually, hackers are rather curtious. Especially the ground that hacked us bloodbr, who are a bunch of kids no older than 17, they're in it for the attention, thus show them the respect and attention that they want (aka, let them show off how much better they are than you) and they'll help you out. Just like anyone else, they just want some reconizition. And btw, I did go in and check the perl script that they used to hack into us, and they did -in fact- fix it.

Didn't this happen a couple months ago too?

There's something wrong with the logic that someone who breaks into your house is doing you a favor by pointing out your security flaws, though.

From what I can see on zone-h a single group hacked hatrack, ornery, and int3rc3pt0r hacked strongverse.

AK, while there is something wrong there, it's better than say....steal your jewelry.

Its possible to do a favor while doing a bad turn as well.

Its nice to fix what you hacked, even if its not nice to hack at all.

So it's been hacked since noon, has anyone emailed the admin? I emailed admin@hatrack and webadmin@hatrack because I don't know any addresses, but has anyone else?

Hackers need jobs working as IT/IS people. Then they can put their M4D SK11LZ to good use and feel what it's like to be on the other end of a hack.

It's Sunday, man! They're all at church.

I'm sure they will take care of it in the morning...

Hackers like weekends. Not only is no one around to deal with the problem, but it's not like THEY'VE got anything else planned.
