What kind of accent does Kaylee have?

Exotic?

Alien?

Non-human?

I've got nothing.

Jewel Staite the actress has a faint Canadian accent. Kaylee the character has a pseudo-cowboy accent and sentence structure, just as Mal does. Dunno what region it's supposed to be from.

Yes, the guy who plays the captain on Firefly is a complete wiener and should never have been cast for the role.

Feh - trying to balance wild west cowboys against star ships and intergalactic scene scapes didn't mesh well.

Have to disagree on both counts. I like the captain. And we've probably watched the Firefly DVD set nine or ten times by now, forced several visiting friends to sit down and watch it, and I sent a set to another friend as a present for finishing her book.

The movie is coming...

Considering how far in the future it's supposed to be I think they could make up whatever accent/grammar they wanted to.

But what kind of Western accent is it? Texas? Oklahoma? Utah?

(thanks for the responses so far)

The kind you hear in Westerns.
