Space Opera mentioned in this thread that the "name" of her car is Old Blue.

That reminded me of a conversation I had with some friends a few days ago about people that name their vehicles (for whatever reason).

So I'm asking -- do you have a name for your car (except the cuss words you call it when it doesn't operate correctly) and why that name?

I currently don't have a name for my Nissan pickup. But my prior vehicle -- a big brown 4-wheel drive 1988 Jeep Grand Waggoneer I affectionately called Moose because it didn't go fast, but it could basically lumber through just about anything and anywhere, like a big clumsy moose.

I don't have a name for our vehicle, but that's probably because I just don't care about it. I'm not a car person. To me, it's just transportation.

My guitar, on the other hand -- I'm looking for a name for it. But first I need to figure out if it's a he or a she.

My wife calls out Montero, "Monty".

I always get a picture of Bernard Montgomery wearing a beret somewhere out in the deserts of North Africa when she calls the car by name. Kinda fits, I guess.

No name for our car, but only because it isn't very special to us. However, my husband's first car, an 82 Honda Civic Wagon, was called "Red Baron" if I'm not mistaken. I think my old 84 RX-7 had a name but I don't remember it, so it couldn't have been that special.

My mom's 80 Cutlass Cruiser Station Wagon was "Slick" but only because she could put that thing into traffic in places that a motorcycle couldn't squeeze, so it's more due to her driving skills than the car's attributes. For the same reason, we probably could have called it "Widowmaker".

And I'm all for naming guitars. Right now we just call it "The Axe" but it'll probably get its own name soon.

My current vehicle, a '95 Honda Civic, is known as "Red Ryder".... it's metallic burgundy (which sure looks red to me) and one of my favorite songs is "Lunatic Fringe".

My last car, an '83 Olds Cutlass, was "Piece of <bleep>" for what I took to be rather obvious reasons.... [Eek!]

The car before that was a Dodge Neon that I called "the Pregnant Rollerskate".

We have a Pontiac Bonneville that has always been named "Bonnie."

Before that, we had a Toyota Celica named "Cellie."

People always look at me wierd when they find out my car has a name.

I name my Mom's cars since I drive them occasionally and I don't have one of my own and it entertains my friends.

One winter, when I lived pretty far from campus, my Mom gave me her big white Ford Aerostar van to drive. I named it Moby Dick. Whenever I'd give people rides, I'd say "Call me Ishmael."

My Mom's other car is a 93 Ford Taurs station wagon. It's definitely a Momcar, but I like to call it El Toro.

I saw a giant Station Wagon yesterday in a nasty old brown with no clearcoat, like it was spray-painted brown. The words "The Poo-mobile" were painted on the back in green.

My cousin had a big green car he used for demolition derby called "Slimer".

My husband's grandpa had a blue VW bus in excellent condition. He just called it the bus, but we called it "The Shaggin' Wagon" when he wasn't around. I don't know who started it, but we were kids at the time. We thought it was funny I guess.
