We should celebrate this. When should it occur, and how should we observe it?

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

I'm so glad you asked! I was going to ask about it and find out what it is.

*waits expectantly*

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

That question is answered in the founding thread. But I say we should reclaim Billtmas for the people, and make it our own!

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

I know...shhhhh.

*waits for more info*

Do you think it has pineapples involved? I like pineapple.

Merry Billtmas, everyone! I believe we can celebrate Billtmas at any time of year. None of this "you can only listen to Billtmas music the month before" business.

Kiwifruit, lots of kiwifruit.

I'll make peppermint/chocolate Billtmas cookies.

Yeah! It's a tropical festivity!

*gets out coconut bra*

Kat, your post is in the wrong place. It makes it look like I posted too late.

But of course. Billtmas is pretty much the opposite of Christmas. Christmas you've got all that cold and snow, but Billtmas is all about beaches and hula skirts.

Yay Blitmas is now my favorite holiday! Who wants to come over for some Blistmas cookie baking!?

Ha, so for those of us who live in Florida, Blistmas is like a snowstorm?

Posted by T_Smith (Member # 3734) on :

It should occur August 26th, since August lacks in the holiday section. We should celebrate it by dancing around a tire yard, singing songs about the motorway.

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Naw, Christmas in Florida, Christmas anywhere tropical, Christmas in the Southern hemisphere, those are just anomolies.

Posted by PSI Teleport (Member # 5545) on :

"And it's a lovely day here at the brickyard..."

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Billtmas in the southern hemisphere is quite wintery. It all balances out. Every holiday is tropical in Florida.

Posted by from Cythera (Member # 6749) on :

Haha, yay I get to see snow! I'll put a straw skirt on over my 3 layers of pants just for the mood.

Posted by BelladonnaOrchid (Member # 188) on :

Nathan, I've never been of the opinion that August is lacking in the holiday section-I celebrate one right at the beginning.

I'm not sure about Billtmas, however, Happy Lammas everyone!

<--*Read the title as "blitmaps"*

What would a blitmap be? You can blit from a bitmap, maybe it would be a bitmap that is especially designed for blitting? Or one that was created from a screen blit?

Ohh I see, this isn't a nerd thread. I'll just go now...

*Slinks out of thread*

I am still rolling because so many people (including myself) thought it was some kind of Mormon holiday we'd never heard of.

Tom, I must thank you for creating this thread. It has let me laugh about something that was really stressing me out. It also allows people to realize what happened who might not have otherwise.

I have a confession to make - I don't know what a "meme" is. I hear it used, and I pretend I know what it means, but I can't keep up this charade. Please, someone tell me what that word means.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 433) on :

A meme is an idea or abstract process (like an algorithin). Kind of like a living creature, it evolves overtime, those memes which do not adhere to natural selection get weeded out and those that due become prominent in our society. Fashion trends are memes, political ideologies, logical thoughts and ideas, these are all memes. Sometimes a meme can be an inside joke or a secret, sometimes it can change the world. But this isn't really my field, someone else should explain it. [Smile]

Oh, well...umm...you knew that I really knew what it meant, right? I was just..umm...testing others' knowledge of the word - that's right.

Oh Billtmas Day (Oh Christmas Tree)

Oh Billtmas day, Oh Billtmas day,
The day we celebrate the motorway,
We'll all stay calm, have no road rage,
If we meet a jerk, we'll not engage
Oh Billmas day, Oh Billtmas day,
Our hallowed day for the motorway.

Typical Billtmas Day (Jingle bells)

Dashing off to work,
In my rusty Pontiac,
Oops forgot my badge,
Have to head on back,
Get out on the road,
Forgot my lucky pen,
And secure ID,
Head on back again,
Hit the interstate,
And ran out of gas,
If they ask why I was late,
I think I'll kick some...
Oh billtmas day, billtmas day,
What on earth are you?
How am I to celebrate
When I haven't got a clue?
Oh billtmas day, Billtmas day,
Everything went wrong,
Now I get to stay at home and sing this stupid song!

August doesn't need a holiday: the civilized world has a holimonth.

'Twas the night before Billtmas, and all through the 'Rack
Not a poster was stirring, not even Mack
The T-shirts were hung in Chicago with care,
In hopes that Kama soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
With books full of knowledge crammed into their heads.
And just having finished their homeschooling lesson,
I settled right down for a Hatracking session.

When out on the 'net there arose such a clatter
I quickly surfed over to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew in consternation
Clicked on the icon and typed in the location.

The light and the glare from my monitor screen
Gave my whole room an unearthly sheen
And what to my wondering eyes did appear
But a raging debate on being gay dears!

And a little old poster so mean and so dull
I knew in a moment it must be a troll!
More rapid than eagles his insults they came
And he whistled and shouted and called us all names!

"You're stupid! You liar! You're all after me!
You idiot! You jerk! You're hypocritical, see?
To the top of the page! To the top of the screen!
We hates you so much! You're all very mean!"

But then in a moment, the end was in sight
Here comes our great mods, everything is all right.
And I heard them exclaim as they deleted the posts
Happy Billtmas to all, from your favorite hosts.

As a side note, I realized from this that we can now pass off any weird behavior as being a Mormon custom.

Hats off to Nathan and Shigosei. I could not write things like that.

So far, we've seen one suggestion that Billtmas honor our motorways, and multiple suggestions that it fall some time in August -- to make up for the conspicuous absence of American holidays during that time. [Smile]

Wonderful, wonderful! I haven't been so full of the Billtmas spirit in -- well, in a long, long time.

Hey, what do I have to do in order to export Billtmas to Brazil?

Is there a required fee or enything? [Smile]

Posted by TomDavidson (Member # 124) on :

Nope. You just have to keep the spirit of Billtmas alive in your hearts, once we figure out what that spirit is.
