Are you and your family okay? I read in the latest pot legalization thread that you'd been rear ended while driving your family to work this morning. Obviously you're well enough to be posting, and you didn't create a thread about it, so I assume that you all must be more or less okay, but I thought I'd check. How did your car fare? Did the guy who hit you have insurance?

Hope everything is okay!

Thanks for your concern.

I'm really just kinda peeved.

We are okay. The frame on the car, the trunk, and a tail light are messed up. The Saturn took the impact better than the One-ton pickup that slammed into it at about 30mph.

He didn't have insurance. My deductable is $250.00. The insurance and car repair hassle is more than I need now, we are trying to move right now.

What really gets me is that, unlike in my reckless youth, I was being perfectly legal. Had I ran the red and entered the intersection when he was approaching, it would have been dangerous and I wouldn't have been legal should I impact someone who was supposed to be in the intersection at that time.

Stupid kid. Stupid lying, clueless kid. [Mad]

Oh no!

Darn uninsured drivers! [Grumble] I would think they'd still legally have to pay, though, right?

Glad you and yours are OK.

Well, I'm glad that you and your family are all okay. I can relate though--if you'll remember, about a year ago a guy in an uninsured pickup (that he didn't actually own, and that had the plates to another vehicle entirely on it) rammed into me in a head-on collision, totalling my car but leaving all parties involved basically unhurt.

At least the kid who hit you didn't steal your wallet, like the guy who hit me! [Smile]

So what was the kid lying about?

Annie--in theory, yes. My insurance company ended up suing the guy who hit me to recover their costs, and offered to let me in on a piece of it. I declined though--the guy who hit me seemed like a decent human being who had been twisted by circumstance into something a little ugly and pathetic, and I didn't want to be a part of life sticking it to him any harder than it already was. In any case, though, the guy was more or less destitute, I'm fairly sure, so even if the judge had awarded the insurance company $10 I think they'd have had a hard time collecting.

Oy! Erik, hugs to you and your family. I understand the stress of moving (*studiously ignores mounds of boxes*), and can only imagine how much stress this adds on top!

So glad you are all ok!

Aw, bummer. How did the kid lie?

My mom got hit once by some teen backing up out of an intersection. It looked like my mom had rear-ended her. Luckily, the teen drove off, which meant her credibility was shot when she tried to lie about the accident. [Smile]

He told the officer and I that he had insurance.

And brakes.
