Welcome to Hatrack. Classic rock is great, although I question putting Styx in that category. It's an age thing. [Smile]

I alway say I play at the guitar. Especially opening riffs to classic rock: Aqualung, Satisfaction, Paint it Black, Sunshine of your Love, etc.

Wow, I know I'm getting old when Styx is considered "classic" rock.

Welcome! [Wave]

*giggles* Beren...Styx IS catagorized as Classic Rock!

*giggles again*

Thank you Tammy I agree that Styx is generalized as Classic Rock, for my generation anyways.
Mr.P-head, Yeah my sister is really cool and she told me to be cool too. All the cool kids post on hatrack

Is it really an age thing?

I'm 37 and I consider Styx a Classic Rock Band.

[Dont Know]

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

If the 70s aren't classic, what is?

For a car to be classic, it only has to be 25.

Sure, classic, why not? [Dont Know]

I can't believe what people jam into that catagory, but it's so general that anything old enough could fit into it.

It is progressive rock, though. Very poppy progressive, but progressive.

Kind of like a cross between Yes and Hansen.

*shudders*

Welcome Blue Collar, er... Woman?

Dude, Dag - you're old.

I think I'd call you a classic.

Hey, Hellen. : )

Yes,I know I'm young and don't know very much about whats "classic" or not but I just go by what they play on the "classic rock" radio station. I live in a one horse town and don't have many options. What can I say but I'm deprived and forced to listen to good music.

Hi, I'm new too but the only people I know here are from Pweb.

And sorry for posting in your thread, HtH, but I didn't want to start my own just to say hi.

So...hi! I've been lurking for a few months now and I decided to just go for it and register; you guys provide me with much of my entertainment...and I mean that in a good way.

Posted by beverly (Member # 6246) on :

Darn it, Uhleeuh, if only you had posted before me my welcome could have been for both of you! [Razz]

And newbies provide us with much of our entertainment. Take that anyway you like. [Big Grin]

Welcome! [Wave]

I'll do my best to always post before you from now on. [Razz]

But maybe now you'll remember me [Big Grin] even if it is for making you work harder.

For some reason, Dag, I had always thought you were closer to my age. Weird.

Posted by Annie (Member # 295) on :

Hellen may or may not be my sister. That depends on whether or not your intentions are noble.

I'm 33, saxon - how old are you?

Huh. I thought you were close to my age as well. Not sure why, though.

Posted by Stan the man (Member # 6249) on :

I guess that gives me almost 6 months till I'm a classic. I don't want to be old. [Cry]

Hi Hellen and Uhleeuh. Welcome to Hatrack.

Geez. I don't know if i can remember back to junior high. A whole two years. I'm into classic rock anyway. I'm a metal head at heart though.

You like Styx. You're A-OK in my book. Welcome aboard.

Posted by mr_porteiro_head (Member # 4644) on :

Heh. I had already stopped listening to current popular music when Eminem debuted.

Posted by Verily the Younger (Member # 6705) on :

Let's see . . . when I was in junior high, Ace of Base, the Spin Doctors, and the Proclaimers were big. Snoop Doggy Dogg (as he was then called) debuted, and Eric Clapton released the acoustic version of "Layla". [Big Grin]

Egad. Everything Verily just mentioned happened when I was in COLLEGE.

I'm Raia. I hope we can be friends!

Verily just gave me a nostalgic bit of happiness. Ace of Base was the first "rock" tape I bought. All of my peers were into Nirvana, Blind Melon and Pearl Jam in junior high. I was into Garth. Heh.

For me, music began in middle school (junior high, whatever). I mean, I listened to music in elementary school, but mostly it was just whatever my mom was listening to. I'm guessing that this phenomenon may be relatively common, though I don't have anything to back that up.

Welcome welcome *to the the tune of Welcome Welcome Sabbath Morning* Mr. Roboto *in a fake robot voice with a good music beat.* Glad you are here. How did you hear of hatrack?
*wonders if this is directed at Helen or me*
*decides to reply regardless*

I first heard of Hatrack back in 1997, when I had to read Ender's Game for freshman English. I was trying to get my hands on anything Ender related. I looked around, but never really got into the site. Then about a year and a half ago, I found the Philotic Web and the forums here were mentioned a few times...so I would lurk on occasion. Then I found myself with way too much free time this summer, and began reading Hatrack on a daily basis and multiple times at that. I was amazed at how close you all seem to be and decided I had nothing to lose from registering. If only I could get over my posting anxiety, I think I'll really like it here. [Smile]

Styx is classic, so I guess I now qualify as classic too. I was a junior in high school when "Mr. Roboto" came out.

Styx is fabulous in concert, but keep in mind that the band that is now touring as Styx is missing one key ingredient--Dennis De Young. There was a major nasty fall out a few years ago and he no longer is connected with the band. So, I guess this band is more "Styx-lite."

[QUOTE] [/ think I was too, I know I was when brittney spears debutedQUOTE]

Not unlesss you are over 22 you don't....probably more like 28, really, to be old enough to remember...

Star Search!

That is where she debuted, at the age of 6 (I think).

In about 1982......somewhere about then, give or take a year.

When you are as old as I am, one year one way or another doesn't really matter... [Big Grin]

My sister and I used to make up little dance routines to Mr. Roboto in her bedroom. She had it on vinyl. I was about eight.

That's a bittersweet memory. [Smile]

(Oh, and welcome. I mean, WELCOME.)

Kwea, the dates in your post didn't quite jive with me as I'm pretty sure Britney Spears is not older than I am. A quick Google search puts her birth in 1981 and her Star Search performance in either 1989 or 1992.
