Apparently this guy was a very well known, top mountain climber -- has scaled some of the most difficult peaks in the world. Was highly respected in mountain climbing groups.
So it was the ultimate irony that he died trying to rescue a cat from a tree...

Trees are more dangerous to climb than cliffs. They move and break more.
