Looks like the Chechnyan conflict is going to start heating up.

Anyone know what Russia's position on the Israeli-Palestinian situation has been?

I believe Russia has condemned Israel everytime they've fought back along with the rest of Europe. But I'm not certain. Anyone have a link with info?

I DO know that the Russians were on the Serbs side in the in that conflict. They were always trying to stop Clinton from bombing them. (the media didn't make much of it. Russia isn't as cool as France.)

Well, Russia has never even been loosely construed as our ally.

France, however, has been considered an ally.

Russians and the Serbs have always had a tight relationship. The Russians have always felt a strong connection because they are both Slavic and Russians tend to think of attacks on the Serbs as an attack on all Slavs. This goes back before WWI when Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary and Germany because they had declared war on Serbia.

I thought Russia has always been with the rest of Europe against Israel but all I know is that they haven't voted against nor abstained from UN resolutions condemning Israel.

tmedina: umm... the Soviets were our ally in WW2 and since they returned to being just Russia, they've been more or less friendly to us.

The USSR was our ally in WW2.

Russia of today, post USSR has never been formally acknowledged as our ally, although we're no longer in the "cold war" state.

Which is why Russia's objection to bombing has not drawn the same degree of media attention as France's objections have.

Start? Where have you been?

My earlier comment has become more ironic in the hours since two buses were blown up in Israel.

nfl, you may not have known about it, but the buses were blown up hours before you commented.

It was the news that greeted me (only minutes old) when I got online this morning. [Frown]

Well considering my comments were made in ignorance of it... Either way I can't comprehend how countries that are supposedly civilized take the position that they do.

Its called anti-semitism. It overrules civilized behavior :-/

Apparently the Chechnyans are beginning a new offensive with the idea of capturing headlines.

Or it's a slow news week and the foreign press services are just now starting to cover the attacks.
