I made the error of firmly disagreeing - in my opinion, respectfully and with supporting facts - with someone on threads that they started, so those threads got deleted. What the topics were or who deleted the threads isn't really important, but I just wanted to say that I think that this is something that we as a community should look with extreme disfavor on.

I'm sorry. Which thing is it we should look at with disfavor? Disagreeing with each other or deleting threads? Maybe both.

Sometimes it's hard to sound respectful through a keyboard, wires, and a monitor. Yet it's easy to feel the hurtful impact of those letters on the screen.

Threads are deleteable by their originators for a reason, and they have the perfect right to do so. I understand that having your contribution to the discussion deleted along with the thread feels invalidating.

Do not let it trouble you. Beat me. Delete me. eh. [Dont Know]

Squick the best thing to do, if the person involved has a track record, is to save the thread to Word and repost it. Generally it shames the individual involved enough that they don't do it again.

Unless they are OSC-fan...

For the record I am firmly anti-thred deletion. I know exactly who it was that did it yesterday and I'm sorry I wasn't able to call her on it, but I was too busly actually working.

And I think the way she is doing it is subversive and unethical.

Except that in this case, the person's feelings just might be bruised enough as it is.

This person was deleting the entire thread, and then reposting it as if none of the previous posts ever existed and it was exactly the same thread with the same thread title. I watched the post count go to zero, and it was deleted everytime approximately 6 posts were reached.

That isn't dealing with hurt feelings, that is eliminating dissenting opinions, which is NOT what Hatrack is about.

I don't know what this particular issue is about, but I am firmly thread ANTI deletion. I can understand someone deleting their own words, but mine, that I have possibly put a lot of effort or thought into? That ticks me off.

Edit: leave one word out, and it changes the whole meaning of your post.

My posts got nuked too, which might have been a good thing because I was in a sassy mood last night.

I think that once someone responds to your thread, it is no longer YOUR thread. Instead of deleting the zeroeth post and thus nuking the whole thread, it might be more courteous if you aren't happy with the way the thread is going to just clear your text and leave the blank posts as place-holders.

Meanwhile, I'm afraid I've made one of my favorite Hatrack ladies angry again.
