OK, I went out and bought a five port router for my house. I want to hook up both my home PC and then also my xbox in the basement. I've got all the wires run and I'm pretty sure everything is hooked up right because the computer is working fine but my xbox won't recognize the internet signal. Is this a router problem or an xbox problem and any ideas of how to best get it all worked out?

edit: by the way I bought a Linksys 10/100 5-port workgroup switch.

Beatnix,

I've never networked an xbox through a switch before, but I supect that's your problem.

A Router is actually different from a Switch: A switch just sends data effeciently bassed on individual ip's, but a router creates a sub-network, with a gateway and such that allows more effecient and secure data sharing. The difference may not sound like much, but it makes a huge difference to the devices on your network.

Recommendation? Look up "networking an xbox througha switch" via a search engine, or borrow a friends router and put it where the switch is and see if it makes a difference.

Good Luck!

Woof.

ok, went out and bought a D-Link DI-604 4-port router. MUCH BETTER!!!! It had XBOX compatible right on the box so I figured it would do the trick nicely. It did. everything up and running smothly. Now I just have to return the other thing I bought and get my 40 bucks back!
