My workplace is putting a Blue Shield proxy server in place that is designed to keep us from surfing to...well...nearly everywhere, it would seem. It may or may not block me from Hatrack.
If I'm not around much for the next little while, that'll be why. Supposedly they'll be installing the thing late tonight.

Hey, everybody, looks like Noemon's ditching us for The Well after all.

Tricky, tricky, and such a *cough* clever *coughcough* cover story.

...
...
...

Yeah, Jake Noemonopolous just signed up. [No No]

[Frown] The Well, that's not the place you were saying there is another Noemon for, is it?

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

No, no, no! I was kidding.

Ow, my funny's broke again. [Angst] [Wink]

I have no doubt that Noemon is being straightforward and thoroughly honest in his statement that his work might begin blocking his access tonight. I don't think he has it in him to be deliberately deceptive, even if it were just to prevent hurt feelings from his leaving. Certainly he wouldn't go out of his way to make up a lie.

He'd recently started a thread inquiring about The Well just out of curiosity, and that thread just happened to be coincident with servor issues not under his control.

I was just being facetious, and I thought it was so funny because it so blatently must be tongue-in-cheek foolin'. Didn't mean to start rumours. [Frown]

I made up the name "Jake Noemonopolous" too, I swear.

Jake just doesn't lie!

Noemon, I am so sorry. I really assumed it was obvious. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. [Embarrassed]

[ROFL]

No problem Sara, I thought it was funny. And I love the name!

Posted by Jake Noemonopolous (Member # 6861) on :

With any luck this'll all amount to nothing, as far as my hatcrack habit is concerned, and I'll be back on as normal tomorrow.

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

Oh, thank goodness.

*verrrry relieved

[Edit for unintentional odd meanings]
I was preparing to crawl under the desk and hide from shame. Impugning your good name would be the one of the last things I'd want to do.

Dang. I was hoping I'd catch that one. *wince

Just to be clear, I do not in any way, shape or form find the thought of Noemon's leaving to be at all sexually stimulating.

Harrumph. [Embarrassed]

Snicker.

Too late, but on the bright side - much fun was had at your expense. [Big Grin]

Just for the record, the term she used was "abase". Perfectly fine word--a little tinny, maybe, but certainly not obscene. I just saw the opportunity to be kind of funny.

Posted by the master (Member # 6788) on :

i think obscene posts require woody words.

Posted by Jake Noemonopolous (Member # 6861) on :

You know, it's a funny thing celia--all the naughty words sound woody.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

On first thought, the only naughty word I can think of that sounds "woody" is the last part of woodpecker. And that's because it's got "wood" right in front of it.

Of course, celia has probably spent more time thinking about things like this.

Well, it helps if you use a British accent.

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

Shoot, my British coworker just flew to London for the weekend. When he gets back, I'll ask him to make crude sexual advances on me. I'll let you know my conclusions.

Oh dear, I'm bored. Better go and have a bath I suppose.

perhaps you should make that a cold shower instead.

Hey, so do you only post from work?

Posted by zgator (Member # 3833) on :

BTW, Noemon, before you are lost to us forever, I wanted to thank you. A while back, you made a book recommendation over on Grenme.

I haven't gotten too far into yet, but so far, World Religions by Huston Smith is very good.

I was going to wait til I finished, but...

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Well, I'm still able to get into everything, including my yahoo mail. I'm guessing the install of the proxy server didn't go as smoothly as they'd planned, and that they'll spend the weekend trying to get it in place.

Farmgirl--yeah, but with that link, if you explore it a bit, you'll find the key to every Monty Python's Flying Circus based joke anyone will ever make

Kama--Pretty much, at the moment. Here in a couple of weeks, though, I'll be starting to post from home in the evenings.

Zan--I'm glad you're liking it! It's a fascinating book, isn't it?

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Well, sites are becoming inaccessible one after the other. Pretty much all the big webmail sites are now blocked.

It's like Fantasia in the Never Ending Story...

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

Kama, I think if you dress up in snowbunny gear, lie on a frozen lake, and stretch your arms out to him, he just might have a chance.

Posted by Kama (Member # 3022) on :

There are no frozen lakes in here yet [Frown]

But I'll do my best to believe in him.

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do.

Are you sure it's Blue Shield?

I can't find anything about them. . . other than the health care provider.

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

Health care providers are, generally, very evil.

Posted by Sara Sasse (Member # 6804) on :

*also believes in Noemon

[Frown]

Posted by Scott R (Member # 567) on :

Noemon, you really should just lie back and obey your work's policy.

It's the best, safest thing to do.

It would be silly of you to try to go to a web proxy and see if you could get yahoo mail that way, because then you'd be going against company policy. And you don't want to do that.

Posted by miles_per_hour (Member # 6451) on :

What are you talking about? Of course he wants to!

But he probably realizes he shouldn't. [Frown]

Posted by Kwea (Member # 2199) on :

LOL

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Ah, my mistake--Blue Coat.

Posted by Scott R (Member # 567) on :

Hmm . . . from what I understand, Blue Coat isn't doing the actual proxying. It's the appliance that runs proxy software like Websense.

Now I'm going to be serious, where I haven't before-- be careful in what policies you choose to disregard or break, Noemon. It sucks not being able to surf at work; it sucks worse to have to surf the web for a new job.

Good luck-- don't be Anonymous.

Posted by katharina (Member # 827) on :

It's like the picture in Back to the Future.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

My company uses Websense. If I worked in any other department, I wouldn't be able to Hatrack, probably. Whoo hoo! for working in PC Support -- we are "exempt" from most of these rules....

Farmgirl

Well, I think it's been long enough since I got a report of a site being blocked that I can give a sigh of relief. Doesn't look like they're taking any of the forums away from me. My yahoo account is now useless, but you can email me at noemon at sakeriver dot com.

Posted by Farmgirl (Member # 5567) on :

Ha! Right after I e-mailed you at your Yahoo account. [Smile]

Wasn't important anyway. You don't have internet access once you leave work?

Farmgirl

No way! They are taking Noemon from us? You must quit immediately and find a better job!

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

Frustratingly enough, celia, I had a message about 2/3 done in the draft folder of my Yahoo mail, just waiting to be completed and sent to you. [Mad]

I'll be online on evenings and weekends after Oct. 2nd, but not much at all before then. If you'll resend your last message to my sakeriver account, though, I'll reply from there.

Posted by pooka (Member # 5003) on :

Noemon, I just want to take this opportunity to say I'm so glad you are still with us. [Evil Laugh]

Posted by Noemon (Member # 1115) on :

[Smile]

Er...why the evil smiley?
