In French it's called "L'évangile selon Pilate". I don't know if it has been translated but it must be, because it's from a very popular author here, Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. Did anyone read it ? I would like to talk about this book (touchy subject, you guess what by the title...) with other people, Christians or not, God-believer or not.
Anyone ?

I don't know the real title in English (I haven't been able to find it). The litteral translation would be "the gospel according to Pilate". Only there's a first part where Jesus is speaking, and the second part Pilate is speaking, more and more believing in Jesus's ressurection. A beautiful book, really. BTW, Chad, I'm impressed by your French. I sure don't know how to say "gospel" in another language (apart from French of course. Am I clear ?)

I was going to say "of" pilate but that is "du" isn't it?

My french is really nothing more than being able to understand some words by reading the common latin derivitives. No I don't speak Latin either....

But that book sounds facinating.

There are some Coptic apocryphal works talking about Pilate's wife and a possible post crucifixion conversion to the coptic version of christianity.

Now you have my interest piqued.

The Gospel of Nicodemus is an interesting Apocryphal read as well.

I already have a LONG list of "Books I need to read" and it just got longer... [Wink]

I'll have to look it up, en français, bien sûr. I've been getting better at my reading in French - normally I get very easily frustrated that I can't read as fast as I do in English, but I've gotten to the point where I can make it through pretty big books without frustrating myself. I'm doing a lot of research for a paper I'm writing on Marianne, and it's rather dense.

None of this has to do with the book of course, but it does sound very interesting.

Annie, I got to that point myself in Englsh, I can read books I don't know anything about (means when you read in another the following of a serie you read in your language, it's easier, I did it wth the last Harry Potter) without getting too frustrated. The last one I read were two books from Megan Lindholm (Robon Hobb) ,, one of them called "Wolf's brother" if I remember well. I liked them.

BTW, if you read any other book of that author (or another French one [Smile]

) feel free to express your opinions here ! One of my favorites French author is Daniel Pennac, I know his work has been translated, in French at last it's really great.
